Cucumber Saltan

Every year Saltan cucumber is increasingly becoming the choice of amateur gardeners. The inhabitants of the northern regions have a special love for him, where, due to climatic conditions, it is not so easy to grow vegetables. But with this variety, you can not be afraid to be left without a crop in case of temperature extremes, cold and rainy weather.

This variety is domestic. It originated at the breeding and seed-growing company "Manul" thanks to the efforts of such breeders as ON Krylov and AV Borisov.

Saltan is a hybrid variety, successfully cultivated not only in open ground, but also in film-type greenhouses, temporary film structures.

Experts call the type of growth of the culture in question indeterminate. The plant has long branches with active branching. Leaves are green in color, medium in size, slightly wrinkled.

As for the fruit, its length is on average 9-11 centimeters, and its diameter is 3.5-4 centimeters. Such a cucumber weighs about 105-110 grams. The shape is similar to a spindle. The fruit is colored green; light stripes can be discerned on its surface. The cucumber is densely covered with large tubercles with a poorly expressed white pubescence.

According to its purpose, Saltan is universal, suitable for canning, pickling and freezing, as well as for use as fresh salads. Cucumbers taste good.

The variety can be classified as medium early. As a rule, such vegetables are pollinated by bees and have a female flowering type. In each bunch 1-3 cucumbers are tied. If the variety is cultivated indoors, it should pick up an additional pollinator. A different kind of cucumber, for example, Phoenix, can play its role. The fruiting period starts 45-47 days after planting.

The described variety of cucumbers can boast of a good yield, on average 12-15 kilograms of vegetables per square meter.

The geography of growing Saltan is wide, it grows successfully in the North Caucasus, Far East, North, Central, Ural, East Siberian, North-West, West Siberian, Volgo-Vyatka regions.

If vegetables are cultivated outdoors, it is advised to place no more than 3-4 plants per square meter, the scheme for a greenhouse is 2.5 bushes per square meter.

In regions with a warm climate, it is allowed to plant Saltan cucumbers directly into the ground; for cold regions, a seedling approach is more acceptable. Small peat pots are used for seedlings, the seeds sown in them are kept in a warm room. As soon as shoots appear, it is worth moving the plant to a cool place (18-20 degrees) for 20-30 days.

They are trying to find a sunny landing site, on a hill. It's good if cabbage, beans or nightshade grew there earlier.The soil is dug up the day before and saturated with organic matter. A week after planting, it is recommended to fertilize the land with nitrogen (for example, cow dung). Subsequently, potash and phosphorus components are introduced into the soil.

Watering should be done regularly, about two to three times a week. Before the procedure, the water should be slightly warmed up. It is not worth hilling the culture, since this can damage the root system and the plant will rot.

Another component of caring for cucumbers is the garter of the bushes. For this purpose, they take a powerful rope and pull it at an elevation of one and a half meters from the ground. Then the shoots are loosely wrapped with a rope, after which the plant itself will grab the support and strive upward.

For the cultivation of the cucumber variety in question, a choice should be made in favor of loamy, light soils.

The main condition is to plant Saltan on an area that is not affected by drafts. The variety is excellently adapted to cold weather.

Shows good resistance to many ailments, including cucumber mosaic virus, powdery mildew, cladosporium disease. Sometimes it can suffer from pests, for example, from the whitefly.

Reviews of this variety of cucumbers in general can be called positive. Vegetable growers note that the fruits have excellent taste and are easy to care for.
