One of the most unpretentious cucumber varieties, popular among farmers of different levels, has been the F1 hybrid Marinda for more than a quarter of a century. He was loved by both farmers and summer residents, who cannot devote a lot of time to caring for the crop every day. These cucumbers can be grown as gherkins, pickles, salad greens, they are delicious fresh, they show themselves perfectly in pickles and marinades, salads. And they can be cultivated both in an open garden and in a greenhouse, and for some lovers of home gardening, they bear fruit on the balcony and even the windowsill.

Breeding history

The Marinda F1 hybrid was obtained from the well-known Dutch seed company Seminis, part of the Monsanto Holland BV corporation.

Local scientists were engaged in breeding, breeding work was completed in the early 90s of the last century, after which the resulting variety quickly spread throughout Europe. After being included in the State Register since 1994, the culture began its march across our country, having successfully established itself on domestic plantations.

This breeding development has become one of the most popular Dutch gherkin hybrids. In addition to spreading in Europe and Russia, the variety was included in the State Registers of other countries, such as Ukraine (1998) and Moldova (2002).

Description of the variety

It is no coincidence that many gardeners from different countries prefer this particular hybrid. The variety is parthenocarpic, that is, it does not require a pollination process. It can grow both indoors and outdoors, has a strong immunity to many diseases. Marinda also has a fairly high yield.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents

The plant of Dutch selection belongs to medium-sized crops. Liana is not too thick with medium-sized foliage, moderately climbing.

Zelentsy-gherkins grow 10-12 cm long, average 3 cm in diameter, the weight of each greenery varies from 66 to 75 grams. The cucumbers are shaped like a cylinder. The color is bright, dark green. Quite large tubercles with white pubescence are located on the fruits.

Purpose and taste of fruits

Cucumbers of the hybrid variety Marinda have earned their immense popularity due to the wonderful taste characteristics of zelents, their versatility. This is perhaps the most popular short-fruited cucumber hybrid, which is suitable for various canning options, as well as fresh consumption.

The pulp of zelentz is crispy, rather juicy, dense, homogeneous, the seed chambers are small, even small. The aroma of fresh fruits is pronounced, and the sweetish taste has no bitterness at all.

Maturation

An early culture ripens in 56-58 days, this is how much time passes from the emergence of seedlings to the first cucumbers.

Yield

Marinda is a high-yielding crop. The average yield can be in the range of 88-207 kg / ha.

Growing regions

Over the years, the Dutch hybrid has managed to adapt well to the climatic conditions of the Russian center, as well as the Central Black Earth region. In addition to these territories, it is successfully grown throughout the country in various types of greenhouses, greenhouses, as well as under film cover.

Growing and care

The originators recommend growing the crop both vertically, that is, using a trellis or mesh, and horizontally, without different supporting structures. Marinda yields equally good yields when using the seedling method, and when grown by the non-seedling method, when sowing seeds directly into the ground. And this, too, is the universality of culture.

An earlier harvest can be obtained by covering the seedlings with foil. Since Marinda is a hybrid, it is possible to use purchased seeds. For open ground, two-year-old seeds are better suited, they have the best germination, and they are prone to the formation of female flowers.

Often on sale there are seeds covered with special protective and nutritious shells, they look very beautiful, they are painted in different colors. It is very important here to avoid any pre-treatment, such as soaking, disinfection, hardening. The seed producer has already subjected the planting material to the necessary processing. The shell contains the necessary micro and macro elements that stimulate growth, and will also protect the seedlings from ailments and harmful insects. The main thing is to water the soil after placing the pelleted seeds in the ground, and this must be done abundantly so that the shell dissolves, all the useful substances begin to work, and the seed begins to germinate.

With the seedling method, ready-made seedlings are planted in the ground 4 weeks after sowing seeds for seedlings. In the middle lane, this occurs at the end of May. At the same time, cucumbers should not be sown after or next to tomatoes. The optimal neighbors of cucumbers are carrots, dill, peas, radishes, cabbage.

It is better to place the beds with Marinda cucumbers in a corner of the plot well protected from drafts. With the seedless method, the seeds are placed in the ground to a depth of 3 cm. The planting pattern is 50x30 cm. Before the emergence of seedlings, the ridge should be covered with a film.

In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.

Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
