Cucumber is a long-loved vegetable in any family. It can be used to make salads, sauces, preparations for the winter, first and second courses. Gardeners who own a land plot want to grow cucumbers on their own. Now there are so many vegetable seeds on the market that you can easily get confused and choose a not very tasty or low-yielding variety. Cucumbers Chinese snakes definitely deserve the attention of buyers, as they have an unusual shape, good yield and excellent taste.

Breeding history

The variety was bred relatively recently - in 2010, from the name it becomes clear that the creators are Chinese breeders. Initially, it was thought that this variety would grow only in the regions of China in greenhouse buildings. Fortunately, Chinese snake cucumbers quickly spread beyond the borders of their homeland and are already grown in many countries around the world.

In Russia, improved forms of the Chinese snake have been developed, which are adapted to the climatic conditions of the country. Employees of the breeding company "Gavrish" worked on this variation of the variety. The variety was entered into the State Register of the Russian Federation in 2015.

Description of the variety

Cucumber Chinese snake is a unique and unusual variety, belongs to early maturing crops, in the southern regions the first fruits appear within 30 days after planting, and can bear fruit up to 4.5 months. A distinctive feature is the cucumbers themselves, they have an oblong shape with a slightly curled end, their length can reach 1 meter.

They have high resistance to various diseases, pest attacks, do not require additional chemical treatment.

The variety does not need pollinating insects, because it has mixed flowering, so it can be grown both in greenhouses and outdoors. The plant itself is not limited in growth, which means that it can grow to an immense size, it all depends on the desire and capabilities of the owner.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents

The bushes of the variety are very powerful, have a bright green color. The main stem can be up to 3.5 meters. A few side shoots depart from it, experienced gardeners advise to remove them.

Cucumbers themselves have an atypical shape, usually long fruits with curled ends. The skin is not thick, dark green in color, with small thorns on the entire surface. There are light stripes on the skin. The length is different, from 50 to 60 cm, about 10 cm in diameter. The pulp inside the salad color is very tender and pleasant, the seeds are practically not found, or are very small. Even if the cucumber overgrows, the seeds do not turn yellow and large, which is a big plus. The weight of one fruit can reach 350-400 grams.

Purpose and taste of fruits

The Chinese snake variety is universal, so it can be eaten fresh, made salads, snacks, preparations for the winter. It is noted that this variety is not suitable for canning, as they have a very long and thin fruit that is inconvenient to work with.

People who have tasted the variety note a good delicate taste and lack of bitterness.

Maturation

Cucumbers are classified as early ripening varieties, therefore they ripen already 30 days after planting seedlings or sowing seeds in open ground. It all depends on the weather conditions and the growing region.

Yield

The variety brings a good rich harvest. Some gardeners managed to collect up to 40 kg of cucumbers from one plant. On average, about 15 kg can be harvested from one bush.

Growing regions

Since the variety has already been adapted to the conditions of the country, it can be grown in all regions of the Russian Federation. Cucumbers are successfully grown both in the south and in the north. Depending on the weather conditions, it may take longer to ripen.

Landing scheme

Agronomists recommend planting the Chinese snake variety only with the help of seedlings, since the seeds have a small percentage of germination in open ground, according to statistics, only 4 germinate out of 10 seeds.

Before sowing, the seeds must be soaked in warm water, if desired, treated with a solution of potassium permanganate. Pour soil with fertilizers into peat pots, place seeds there and water well. Pots and cups should be large in size, as the root system is powerful. Seeds germinate at a temperature of 35 degrees. The first leaves appear in about 2 weeks, as soon as they are stronger, the pots must be transferred to a sunny place.

When the plant reaches a length of 20 cm, it can already be transplanted into open ground or a greenhouse.

The optimal planting time is mid-May, since the soil should warm up well, and there should be no spring frosts.

Before planting, it is necessary to make a depression of 15-20 cm, water it well with warm water, plant seedlings and cover them with earth, leaving the upper leaves. Good watering is also required at the end.

Growing and care

Like any variety, the Chinese snake requires careful watering. Experts recommend using drip irrigation with warm water. The fact is that a strong stream exposes the stem, makes it more vulnerable, and cold water adversely affects the culture.

If there is a high temperature, drought and lack of rain outside, it is recommended to water twice, but here it is important not to overdo it, as excess moisture can lead to rotting of the plant root system. If water is not enough for cucumbers, then they may stop growing, and bitterness will appear in adult fruits.

Top dressing is required during the flowering period, it can be both specialized mineral fertilizers and organic substances: urea, humus, chicken droppings.

This variety requires the formation and tying of shoots. Thus, the cucumbers will have a beautiful shape and presentation. Experienced gardeners recommend tying as early as possible. This procedure is required only in greenhouse facilities.

Cucumbers are especially fond of oxygen and moisture, so they need frequent loosening of the soil, especially after watering, so that the ground does not become hard.

Soil requirement

Cucumbers of this variety are completely unpretentious to the soil, it must be sufficiently warmed up and fed. And also planting cucumbers in the same place for two years in a row is prohibited, since they will not bring the proper harvest.

In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.

Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.

Review overview

Since the Chinese snake variety is very popular in Russian beds, there are many reviews from buyers on the network. They are mostly positive. Gardeners who have tasted cucumbers note good taste, versatility of the variety, high yield, unpretentious care, and an unusual shape of the fruit. The only drawback is the annual purchase of seeds, since it is impossible to procure them from the cucumbers themselves.
