Cucumber Emerald Stream

The predecessor of the Emerald Stream was the Chinese cucumber variety. Moscow breeders Dubinin S. V., Dubinina I. N. and Lukyanenko A. N., working in the agricultural firm "Sedek", have improved this type of vegetable, adapting it for cultivation throughout Russia. The Emerald Stream hybrid has been officially included in the State Register of Plants of the Russian Federation since 2007.

The Emerald Stream is an early maturing parthenocarpic plant suitable for spring-summer and summer-autumn circulation. The first crop can be taken about 6 weeks after germination. In general, the variety is distinguished by long and high-quality (up to frost) fruiting. And also the plant does not need insect pollination (but, according to breeders, pollination increases yield).

Cucumber bushes of the Emerald Stream are large in height, dense, medium-branched, in the axils they have only female flowers. Leaves are small in size, rough, have a light or dark green color, firmly attached to the trunk.

At the same time, 4-5 fruits can ripen on the bushes. Zelentsy can reach a length of 30 to 50 cm and a weight of about 150-200 g, their skin is dark green (black-green near the base of the footboard), relatively dense, slightly ribbed, not bitter, with small bulges. The shape of the fruit is elongated, cylindrical with a long neck.

The flesh of the Emerald Stream fruit is juicy, aromatic, sweet and crunchy, and contains a small amount of seeds. These cucumbers make delicious summer salads. Some housewives pickle or pickle it, using fruits for this, which either did not reach large sizes, or simply dividing them into several parts.

The plant is characterized by early ripening - the first fruits appear 44-48 days after full seedlings are formed.

Bushes growing outdoors can produce an average of about 6 kg of cucumbers per square meter. The yield of plants grown in greenhouses can be significantly higher.

Since this variety is frost-resistant, it can be grown in all regions of the Russian Federation. However, there is a nuance: in the northern regions it is preferable to grow these cucumbers by seedlings, in the southern regions - to plant seeds in open ground.

First of all, the seeds need to be prepared:

• place the planting material in liquid (1 tsp salt in a glass of warm water);

• wrap the settled seeds in a damp cloth and put in a ventilated place where the air temperature is more than 25 degrees;

• after 12 hours, rinse in warm water and soak.

After these manipulations, the seeds are placed in small plastic or other containers with soil treated with manganese solution (each in a separate cup, the variety does not like picking) to a depth of 25 mm, covered with soil from above, tamped and moistened. The container is covered with oilcloth and placed in a warm place (temperature over 22 degrees), where there is access to sunlight for more than 10 hours a day. One and a half hours a day, the seedlings must be ventilated. Approximately on the 5th day, when the first shoots with 3-4 leaves appear, the film is removed, and the seedlings are planted in open ground.

The landing pattern is as follows:

• a cord is pulled between two posts;

• planting rows are formed along this structure (the distance between the shoots is from 25 to 50 cm);

• holes are dug (average depth of 3 cm).

After planting the shoots (transfer method), the soil is leveled and watered. Planting seedlings, depending on weather conditions, is recommended at the beginning / end of April.

Experienced summer residents recommend growing cucumbers of the Emerald Stream variety, tying them to vertical supports, as well as pinching the central stem when it reaches the top of the grid, and side shoots (behind the 2nd or 3rd leaf).

For fertilization, it is recommended to use organic fertilizing, for example, rotted manure. And also, if necessary, you can use phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen-containing complexes or self-prepared strengthening tinctures. You need to fertilize the bushes three times:

• after the first leaf appears in a new place;

• 3 weeks after disembarkation;

• when the lashes close in the garden.

It is worth watering the bushes with warm, settled water in the evening (it is important to ensure that the water does not erode the soil, and also does not fall on the leaves), then loosen the soil and weed the weeds.

When the cucumbers reach a length of about 45 cm, they must be plucked, since in the future their external and taste qualities will only deteriorate.

Despite the fact that the Emerald Stream is an unpretentious variety, the soil must still meet the following conditions:

• be loose, nutritious and light;

• contain a small percentage of various minerals, wood ash and peat;

• have a temperature of 10 to 15 degrees;

• do not be excessively wet;

• have a low acidity index.

It is also important to remember that in the land where the planting of cucumbers is planned, pumpkin (zucchini, pumpkin) and umbrella (carrots) crops should not have grown earlier.

This variety is frost-resistant, however, the recommended air temperature for a comfortable crop growth is at least 18 degrees.

Emerald Stream hybrid is often attacked by root rot, but is practically not susceptible to diseases and pests such as:

• powdery mildew;

• spider mite;

• aphid.

And also the variety is highly resistant to low temperatures and drought, in addition, the bushes can grow in the absence of direct sunlight.

To protect the planting from various insects, it is recommended to plant special herbs nearby, for example, marigolds or calendula.
