Cucumber is one of the most popular and useful vegetables that is easy to grow in their summer cottage even for those who have no experience in planting and growing vegetables. The main thing is to choose a variety that does not require complex agricultural technology. These are the hybrid Farmer with medium ripening periods.

Breeding history

Cucumbers Farmer is the result of the fruitful work of Russian breeders A. V. Borisov and O. N. Krylova from the Manul agricultural firm, who created a mid-season hybrid in 1999. Vegetable culture in 2000 joined the ranks of the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation. The plant is adapted to growing in different climatic zones. You can grow a hybrid variety both in the open field and under a film.

Description of the variety

The hybrid cucumber species is a medium-sized plant of an indeterminate type, which has long lashes, medium branching, moderate foliage with dark green foliage, a powerful central stem that grows up to 170-200 cm, as well as a developed root system. A characteristic feature of the plant is the rapid growth of lateral shoots by the bush.

During flowering, pale yellow flowers of a predominantly female type appear on the bushes, so there are no barren flowers. In each node, 1-2 fruits are formed. The crop is pollinated by bees, so it is recommended to plant insect-attracting plants nearby.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents

Farmer's cucumbers stand out among other congeners for their excellent commercial qualities. The greens ripen leveled and neat. On average, the bushes grow vegetables weighing 95-105 grams and a length of 8-11 cm. The shape of the fruit is fusiform. Ripe greens are evenly covered with a dark green color, which is diluted with light stripes. The peel of the vegetable is quite dense, rarely covered with large tubercles, small thorns and weak ribs.

The hybrid species is prone to overgrowth, in which the shape of the vegetable is deformed, and the taste also deteriorates, so you should not overexpose the greens on the bushes. You can choose cucumbers every 2-3 days. The harvested crop tolerates transportation well, and is also able to be stored for a long time under appropriate conditions, without losing its taste and useful properties.

Purpose and taste of fruits

Farmer's cucumbers are famous for their excellent taste. The flesh of vegetables is quite dense, fleshy, tender, crunchy and very juicy, without voids and wateriness. The taste is dominated by a subtle sweetness, complemented by a pronounced, refreshing aroma that spices salads and cuts. There is no bitterness in the taste, as well as the hardness of the peel. It is also worth noting that there are few seeds in the cucumber pulp.

Ripe greens can be eaten fresh, added to salads, assorted vegetables, as well as canned, pickled and salt.

Maturation

Vegetable culture is characterized by medium ripening times. From the moment of absolute germination to the ripening of green leaves on the bushes, 45-55 days pass. The fruits ripen gradually, so the fruiting period is slightly extended. The peak of fruiting and harvesting occurs at the end of July - August. Due to its good cold resistance, you can remove cucumbers from the bushes before the first cold snaps.

Yield

High yield is one of the advantages of this type. On average, 12-14 kg of crispy greens can be harvested from 1 m2 of plantings, the main thing is to provide the plant with the necessary care and conditions for growth.

Landing scheme

It is important not only to choose a favorable time for planting cucumber seedlings, but also to correctly place the plantings on the site. 2-3 bushes are planted per 1 m2 in a greenhouse, and 3-4 on a garden bed. The best for planting is the scheme of 30x50 cm.

Growing and care

You can plant a crop by seed or seedling, but planting through seedlings is more popular, since this gives higher and earlier yields. Strengthened bushes 15-20 cm high with 2-3 leaves are used as planting material. Planting in greenhouses is carried out in May, and in garden beds in June, the main thing is that the air and soil are sufficiently warmed up. It is best to plant cucumbers in an area where tomatoes, legumes and potatoes used to grow.

Vegetable care consists of drip irrigation with settled water, fertilization, with alternating mineral and organic, loosening and weeding of the soil, garters for trellises and the formation of bushes in 1 stem, mulching, protection from fungi and insect infestations.

Soil requirements

Cucumbers love to grow in light, well-fluffed and nutritious soils that are permeable to moisture and air and are neutral in acidity. The vegetable does not grow in swampy and heavy soils.

In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.

Disease and pest resistance

High immunity provides the plant with resistance to cucumber mosaic virus, brown olive spot and powdery mildew. In addition, the vegetable is tolerant of downy mildew.

Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
