The cucumber hybrid variety Berendey appeared in 2003 thanks to the efforts of the Gavrish agricultural firm. In 2007 it was included in the State Register of the Russian Federation.

Description of the variety

Berendey is considered a first generation hybrid (F1) and has many strengths. The bush has an indeterminate type of growth and is prescribed for growing in the northern, North-West, Central, Volgo-Vyatka, North Caucasian, Middle Volga regions and in the Central Black Earth Region.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and zelents

Berendey is medium in size with small green foliage and predominantly female flowers. Refers to self-pollinated. There are usually three or more Zelentsovs in a bundle.

Berendey's fruits are of medium length: 12-14 cm, weight of one - an average of 135 g. Cucumbers have a delicate, lumpy skin.

Purpose and taste of fruits

The variety is suitable for salads, pickling and canning, for fresh consumption. The taste of cucumbers, appreciated by the tasters, is excellent and without bitterness. The fruits tolerate transportation well.

Maturation

In terms of ripening, the variety belongs to the early ones. After the first shoots, up to the fruiting period, an average of 45-50 days pass.

Yield

Berendey is considered a high-yielding hybrid. On average, there are 14 kg of cucumbers per 1 m2.

Landing scheme

Plants are planted according to the scheme 50x50 cm. Berendey is shade-tolerant, but it is always better if the selected area belongs to the southern part of the garden and is well lit.

Growing and care

Sowing seeds in open ground is carried out in early summer. Before this, the seeds must be disinfected and treated with growth stimulants. The procedure is carried out 12 hours before disembarkation.

Sufficient depth of the holes: 1.5-2 cm. Beforehand, you can add a little potassium permanganate to them. After placing the seeds, 2 in each hole, and abundant watering, the cucumbers are covered with foil or agrofibre. There should not be too many germinated cucumbers: only the strongest and most viable are left.

Planting by seedling takes place in the second half of May. The seeds are also treated with growth stimulants, after which they are planted in peat pots or plastic cups with soil. The soil can be pre-fertilized with wood ash and humus. Plants are watered with warm water and covered with foil.

Cucumbers are a priori watered either in the morning or in the evening, and only with settled water at room temperature or slightly higher. Cold water contributes to the development of diseases of the root system.

Left in a dry, warm place, the pots give their first shoots after about 7 days. The film is removed and the plants are transferred to a well-lit place. Seedlings are abundantly watered and fed. The plant is ready to change location when the fourth leaf appears on it. A week before disembarkation, the seedlings are taken outside for 20 minutes, gradually increasing the exit time.

Optimal weather for disembarkation: +15 degrees during the day and at least +10 at night. The earth must be warmed up, it must be loosened and fertilized.Plants transferred to the ground are tied to a vertical or horizontal support.

Abundant watering is carried out 3-4 times a week. With the arrival of the flowering period and the formation of fruits, the number of approaches increases. At the same time, fertilizers, mineral and organic, are actively introduced, for example, a solution of wood ash or mullein (a glass on a bucket of water).

And also the bushes need shaping. Unnecessary shoots are removed, ideally after planting and, with sufficient plant growth, to blind it to 4 leaves.

Berendeya can be safely grown on the balcony. To do this, use containers or large plastic bottles (tested). Drainage (expanded clay or similar) is laid at the bottom, then soil with the addition of fertilizers as desired. Abundant watering is carried out every 3 days or in smaller volumes, but every day. The plant is capable of reaching two meters, so it is important to monitor the rate of its growth, and to form the bushes correctly.

Regardless of how you plant cucumbers, it is always important to monitor the condition and the place where they grow. Periodically, the soil must be moistened and loosened for good air permeability, contributing to the proper development of the root system of cucumbers. During weeding, all weeds are removed, they can be carriers of diseases.

In order to collect strong, tasty and beautiful cucumbers on your site, you need to make top dressing. Lack of nutrients can negatively affect the appearance of the plant and significantly reduce the yield. Fertilize cucumbers with organic fertilizers in combination with mineral fertilizers. With the right balance of these components and adherence to the fertilizing schedule, the cucumber yield will be maximum.

Disease and pest resistance

Berendey cucumbers are resistant to the following diseases:

  1. powdery and downy mildew;

  2. root rot.

The plant may be susceptible to:

  1. late blight of leaves;

  2. aphids,

  3. whitefly,

  4. spider mite.

To combat the latter, various drugs are used, such as "Actellik", "Aktara", "Kinmiks" and others.

With late blight, plants are treated with a solution of Bordeaux liquid (0.5%).

Disease prevention is important, as ailments can rob you of a good portion of your harvest. As a preventive measure, flowers are planted around the perimeter, for example, marigolds or dill - pests do not like their smell. And also from insects you need to periodically loosen the ground.

Despite their popularity, cucumbers are often attacked by diseases and pests. From them, cucumber plantings often die before the start of fruiting. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to try to prevent ailments or get rid of them at the very beginning, having studied in detail their causes of occurrence, signs and methods of treatment.
