Growing

Grow and propagate green chrysanthemum in three ways:

  • seed material;
  • cuttings;
  • dividing the bush.

The seed material of small-flowered plants is easy to prepare yourself. Seeds of large-flowered species set too poorly and slowly. Therefore, this method is rarely used for cultivation.

When chrysanthemum propagates by cuttings, you first need to separate the strongest lateral shoot from an adult plant, after which it is planted in open ground.

A you can also purchase an already rooted shoot in a specialty store... In this case, it is simply planted in the ground. It is recommended to do this in the spring.

If you want to propagate chrysanthemum by dividing the bush, then you need to divide the plant into 2-3 parts (depending on how thick it is). They are planted in open ground.

Chrysanthemum green requires compliance with some maintenance rules. This flower does not tolerate waterlogging of the soil. The plant should not be watered too abundantly. If you plant it in a container, then be sure to lay drainage on the bottom. Otherwise, it may get sick with a fungus, or various pests may appear on the flowers.

Watering plays an important role. In spring, regular soil moistening is carried out if it is too dry, and after the snow melts, too little moisture has formed.

In the middle of summer, the flower should be watered abundantly at the root. It is worth doing this with warm water. One bush should have at least 4-5 liters.

In late summer and early autumn, as the chrysanthemum begins to bloom, watering should be reduced to 2 or 3 liters of water per bush. In the middle of autumn, soil moistening should be carried out only when the weather is too warm and dry.

Don't forget about loosening and mulching. The soil is loosened next to the flower every 10-12 days. The second procedure should be carried out in early spring and autumn before sheltering the plant for the winter. For this, humus and peat are used.

In small-flowered varieties, before the onset of the first frost, the entire aerial part should be cut off at ground level. The remaining root system of the plant should be covered with spruce needles, straw or spruce branches.

Shrub chrysanthemum should be pruned periodically. This will make the plant as lush and voluminous as possible. It is worth cutting off the tops of the bushes. All damaged and old branches must be removed. This will prevent the development of various diseases.

And also it is necessary to regularly fertilize shrubs. Top dressing should be selected depending on the season. In summer and spring, it is better to use formulations with nitrogen. They will enhance the growth of the flower.

At the end of summer, you can fertilize chrysanthemum with formulations with potassium and phosphorus. They promote abundant flowering. In the autumn, nitrogen fertilizers should not be applied, because because of them, the shrub can grow without flowers.

Sometimes small worms appear on the green chrysanthemum, as a result of which white spots form on the leaves. In this case, all damaged plants should be immediately collected and burned. As a prophylaxis, you can use a solution of "Phosphamide".

Chrysanthemums are often affected by gray rot, rust, and various viral diseases. They lead to damage to the leaf blades and the root system. In this case, the flower should be treated with Actellik, Calypso, Aktara preparations.

How to choose?

You can buy a bush green chrysanthemum in a specialized store or nursery. For lush bouquets, it is worth choosing varieties with voluminous flowers of saturated colors. They will complement the bouquet well.

When choosing a green chrysanthemum for a vegetable garden or garden, you can pick up almost any variety. In this case, the choice depends on personal preference.

The basic rules for growing varieties should also be taken into account. As a rule, chrysanthemums do not require special care and are particularly resistant to sudden temperature changes and frost. But at the same time, it is still worth choosing the most unpretentious varieties.
