It is important for every gardener that the flowers in his area are even and beautiful. As for gladioli, sometimes they can fall. How to avoid this and grow a beautiful and even flower, we will talk in our article.

Landing rules

Before choosing a certain variety of gladioli for a site and starting to plant it, it is necessary to take into account what features these flowers have.

It should be said that they are extremely hygrophilous... And they also need light, because in the shade gladioli will not be able to actively grow and develop. The flower does not tolerate exposure to low temperatures. In frost, they risk quickly dying. In addition, you need to plant them in fertile soil.

For active flowering and providing gladioli with comfortable conditions, the gardener needs to know how to plant them correctly. The procedure is best done in the spring. You should study the basic nuances of how to plant correctly so that the flowers do not fall.

First you need to decide on a place. The structure of the earth is very important. It depends on it how deep the bulbs will be placed. In the case where the main component is clay, the depth should be equal to a maximum of 3 onion diameters. If you exceed this figure, there is a risk of not waiting for flowering.

If planting is carried out on fairly light, sandy soil, the size of the bookmark increases slightly and becomes equal to about 4 the diameters of the bulb. If the depth is less, the gladiolus will just begin to lean towards the ground.

In this case, you will have to tie it up without fail.

Experts strongly advise against planting bulbs of both adults and young flowers together. The fact is that larger tubers will take nutrients from the ground as much as possible, respectively, young ones will not be able to fully develop, therefore, it is better to place them at a distance.

Planting bulbs is not difficult, even for inexperienced growers. First you need to prepare a groove, pour sand on its bottom and water it. Sand can be replaced with sphagnum. The filler not only helps to retain moisture, but also prevents the development of fungal infections.

The bulbs are placed deep into the groove at a distance of at least 15 centimeters from each other. From above, the groove is covered with earth. The first shoots that hatch above the soil are sprinkled again, after which they continue to grow.

How to tie up?

There are several ways to tie gladioli outdoors. How to do it right, every gardener decides for himself. It should be noted that mainly those flowers are tied up, the height of which is more than one and a half meters. Such a long stem most often begins to bend over time, so it needs support. Consider the most popular ways to tie up gladioli.

Eight

Most often, gladioli are planted in a row. At the beginning and at the end of each of them, a reliable support should be installed, the role of which can be played by a strong peg about 1 meter high. After that, the twine is cut into pieces that are 20 centimeters longer than the length of the rows. One end of it must be fixed on the first peg, and the second on the second, but you need to move according to the principle of a snake, and then return in the same way.

It turns out a conditional image of a figure eight, inside which flowers are located. In this situation, they are not additionally attached. The twine should be tightened and secured securely. When the plants reach a greater height, the entire structure rises. This is one of the simplest methods, which is well-deservedly popular among gardeners.

Mesh

This method will require a coarse mesh plastic chain-link. The size of the cells should be about 10x10 centimeters.

When choosing the size of the grid itself, you need to focus on the dimensions of the flower bed. The product is attached along the perimeter of the garden to several supports. You can also prepare a special frame.

The support is installed when the flowers have already grown. After that, over time, the arrows will independently fall into the cells. Sometimes you just need to tweak the process a little.

This method is considered to be very reliable. Gladioli are not afraid of even strong gusts of wind. They are very level and are held securely by the support.

Decoratively

If you want to do it first of all, not reliably, but beautifully, you can use the decorative method. It cannot be called a garter in the full sense of the word. However, he is quite capable of giving gladioli the right direction of growth. It is not suitable for mass plantings, but at the same time it is able to give the flower bed an original appearance and effectively support the flowers.

Using PVC pipes and ordinary slats, you can construct a small round-shaped fence. If there is no such opportunity and desire, you can purchase a ready-made decorative fence.

Another option is to have an old metal bucket. The bottom is knocked out of it, and the body itself is neatly placed on the growing gladioli. You will get a kind of bottomless flower pot.

If desired, you can paint it, as well as plant other plants around.

What if they grow in curves?

Sometimes it happens that the arrows of gladioli grow unevenly. This does not look very aesthetically pleasing and is considered a problem for flower growers. Or the shoots lean towards the surface of the earth, no longer rushing upward. There are several reasons why flowers grow crooked.

One of them is the shallow planting of the bulb. And also the problem may be in the wrong planting site, a lack of calcium or an excess of nitrogen.

If the bulb is not planted deeply enough, the topsoil, especially on hot days, can dry out too much. Accordingly, the earth becomes dry in the evening. At the same time, the stems of gladioli dry out and bend over. Moistening the soil at night does not help to correct the situation.

The problem with the level of humidity is especially acute for summer cottages, where the owners come only on weekends. For this reason, the planting depth of the bulb must be at least 15 centimeters.

A large amount of fertilizers, including mineral fertilizers, promotes the rapid growth of plant tissues, due to which these tissues do not have time to fully mature and are deformed. The stem weakens and can no longer bear the weight of the buds. The situation is handled by competent feeding.

An unsuccessful planting site can also cause the flower to bend. The plant is very fond of light and will reach for it. Accordingly, if it grows in place with a certain angle of illumination, it will tilt. This will lead to deformation. For this reason, you need to make sure that gladioli are placed in an open area, where the sun always hits.

The method of planting gladioli is demonstrated below.
