Creation ideas

It is worth plunging into history a little. The first pillows were discovered in the Egyptian pyramids. Their purpose was not convenience and comfort during sleep, as in our time. These were devices with which it was possible to maintain a complex hairstyle after waking up.

Obviously, only the wealthy could afford pillows.

Such products were created from stone, wood, metal, porcelain. They looked like hard headrests.

The first soft pillows, as they are used to seeing them, appeared in Greece... The Greeks created a variety of options, they plunged into the cult of comfort and convenience. By enhancing pillowcases with sewing, painting and a multi-colored palette of paints, it was they who made the pillows works of art.

Then the ancient Romans adopted the fashion.

In Russia, pillows embroidered in various ways were considered part of the dowry. In the modern world, it is almost impossible to imagine life without a pillow, it is understandable. Availability and a huge selection do not leave any house without soft "beauties". Pillows can vary in shape, color and size. An important role is played by style performance, whether it is a festive or a calm everyday option.

The name of a loved one may be on the pillow; funny animals are often depicted on such products.

Choosing a fabric

It is advisable to choose a natural material for the pillow, since it should not only be beautiful, but also serve in practice. Several options are worth considering:

  • Cotton fabric is quite common. It is hypoallergenic, allows the skin to breathe, and absorbs moisture. Cotton is affordable and easy to care for.
  • Silk is a very delicate material on which it will be pleasant to rest. The only caveat is delicate care.
  • Linen is a wonderful fabric, perfect in hot weather. It tends to cool, is not very demanding to care for, and has a rough texture.
  • Wool is indispensable in cold weather, has a warming effect, while being able to have a healing effect on joints and muscles. Requires special care.

One should not ignore such an important feature of the fabric as the weave of the fiber. The characteristics of the fabric depend on the characteristics of weaving. The material can be loose, airy, dense and durable. Here are the main types of fabrics that are suitable for pillow covers:

  • Batiste is a cotton fabric made from fine threads. Products made from such material are delicate, airy, like a cloud. Ideal for people with sensitive skin, including children.
  • Teak is a natural fabric with a fairly dense weave. Differs in special strength and wear resistance.
  • Satin is a durable fabric characterized by a thin, smooth surface. The peculiarity of satin is the excellent permeability of air masses, which allows the pillow to "breathe".
  • Satin jacquard is a satin fabric with a volumetric pattern, which is created in a special way, consists of silk or cotton. Products made from this material look exquisite and "expensive".Durable and wear resistant fabric.
  • Percale is a smooth fabric with a characteristic dense and durable weave. For density, the fiber is impregnated with an adhesive. Percale features are softness and durability.
  • Twill is a durable fabric made up of thick wool or cotton threads that add a matte finish to the material. The twill pillow turns out to be voluminous, elastic, dense.

Decor options

The decor of the pillows is very diverse - from strict classics to a perky riot of colors.

The main directions for the decor of hand-made pillows are:

  • bows;
  • tapes;
  • buttons;
  • flowers;
  • openwork weaving;
  • applications;
  • knitted items (or full knit);
  • figured design;
  • patchwork (flaps);
  • fringe;
  • puffs.

How to choose a filler?

By their nature, fillers fall into two broad categories - natural and synthetic. Based on preferences, purpose and health status, you can choose the appropriate option.

Natural fillers represent a large group of materials, common types are:

  • Herbs. These are mint, hops, lavender, buckwheat husks, yarrow, oregano, St. John's wort, chamomile, lemon balm, basil seeds, dill. You can experiment and stuff your pillow with plants as you see fit. However, you need to remember that you need to be extremely careful with allergies.
  • Materials of animal origin: down, feathers, wool. Down pillows are very soft and light, while down pillows are dense and heavy. Such pillows require special care, otherwise unwanted "guests" (in the form of mites, bacteria) may start. It is a little easier with woolen products, but it should be noted that over time, the wool rolls down and becomes unusable.
  • Silk. The advantages of such a filler are hypoallergenicity, extraordinary softness. The disadvantages include the high cost.
  • Cotton wool. Affordable material suitable for almost everyone. However, with frequent use, such a pad will quickly become unusable.

Synthetic fillers are also divided into several types:

  • Sintepon. Durable, extremely lightweight material.
  • Comforl. Synthetic fiber, rolled into balloons, thanks to which it retains heat perfectly. The comfort pillow will keep its shape very well.
  • Holofiber... Quite thin material, breathable and odorless. It will serve for a long time, does not electrify and does not ignite.

Features of high quality pillows are hypoallergenic, affordable. Such pillows will not start parasites. They can be washed in a washing machine, and they will delight you with their original appearance for a long time.
