In the summer it is always good to take a refreshing dip in the pool, but in order to keep it clean, you need to use additional disinfectants. One of these drugs is copper sulfate. However, for the safety of family members, it is necessary to read the instructions. How to properly dilute the product, in what dosage to use, we will consider in the article.

Is it harmful or not?

Such a remedy as copper sulfate is known to all experienced gardeners. It has a blue, attractive hue. Supplied on sale in powder form. It is tasteless and contains about 24% copper.

When it gets into water, the powder dissolves completely. It has many uses, including construction and industry.

This is a good mineral supplement, an antiseptic used in medicine.

In case of poisoning, it is even advised to use its weak solution (0.1%), which perfectly flushes the stomach. This proves that even a small amount of poison can be beneficial.

Copper sulfate for the pool is one of the most effective drugs, which allows you to get rid of rapidly blooming water. The liquid is purified in one stage, while there is practically no harm to humans, if the dose is not exceeded.

Naturally, since this is a chemical agent, it is harmful in itself, the negative effect increases if the dose is exceeded by at least a few grams. The body copes with poisoning with copper sulfate for a long time, sometimes its excess in water can even lead to death. This is why it is so important to strictly control the proportion.

It is copper sulfate that allows you to cope with the problems that arise during the operation of the pool. Its use has a positive effect on the composition of water:

  • there is no flowering;
  • water remains transparent for a long time;
  • copper sulfate kills the fungus.

It is known that this substance is used as an agent for treating plants from pests and diseases. For this reason, the question often arises whether it will harm a person if it is used to disinfect water.

It is impossible to avoid the ingress of water into the body, especially when it comes to children.

They love not only to swim, but also to dive, splash with water, so the water, one way or another, gets into their mouths.

Dosage

Already a few days after the installation of the pool, it becomes clear how an unpleasant green coating forms on its walls. These are the so-called elemental algae. Van unpleasant smell appears in the place with flowering, the attractiveness of the reservoir is lost, and the desire to swim disappears.

In this case, copper sulfate helps fight microorganisms. It is advised to use it once every 2 weeks, not more often. To remove plaque, you can use a brush as an additional assistant.

Copper sulfate in a safe proportion should be poured into 1000 liters of water for only 0.9 g. It is this solution that is considered safe for human use. You can add it with salt, it, as an additional activator, allows you to keep the water clean longer.

This disinfection is very effective when added to water. The solution should be poured into an ejection mixer, which is located on the water supply line leading to the reservoir.

Application features

As with any other chemical, the use of copper sulfate is associated with some rules. The treatment is effective if the pool is cleaned with a substance with a valid expiration date.

An expired product will not have a high disinfection effect.

Sometimes peat is added to the water along with copper sulfate: it is first wrapped in a small cloth bag and lowered into the pool water. So it stays clean longer, and mucus does not form on its walls, while fungi do not multiply in the water.

It is worth remembering that although the agent disinfects, it does not kill bacteria and viruses... If you need to get rid of them, then it is better to use a specialized drug.

On the market, you can find disinfectants, which, along with other components, include copper sulfate. In this case, it is worth asking whether it is registered, whether it has passed the security check. Each such preparation should contain detailed instructions for use, indicating the proportion.

As already mentioned, you can use a solution with table salt, then for 1000 liters of water, in addition to 0.9 g of vitriol, add 2.7 g of salt.

Algaecides are considered a good alternative to the described tool. These are chemicals that are specifically used to remove algae from the pool.

The composition of such preparations contains copper and ammonium compounds. They do just as well with water bloom as copper sulfate, but are also safer.

When the question of price arises, most users choose the easiest option for themselves, opting for copper sulfate, since it is always at home. Its cost in the store is only 25 rubles for a package weighing 100 g. Hydrogen peroxide can be used, but for a medium sized pool, at least 2 liters will be required to achieve the desired effect.

Together, both drugs complement each other perfectly. Copper sulfate kills disease-causing organisms, and peroxide neutralizes sweat, epithelial particles, and together they perfectly disinfect water.

However, it is worth remembering that both peroxide and copper sulfate can be a skin allergy, so if any signs of such a reaction appear, you should choose another, safe remedy.

Reviews

According to reviews of numerous users of frame and other pools, the described tool is quite effective in combating water bloom. If used correctly, without exceeding the dosage, then it is safe for humans. Thanks to copper sulfate, the water remains clean and safe for bathing for a long time.

Many people use a solution with table salt very effectively. It removes the most common problems, including cloudy water and mold on the walls.

There are also a few negative reviews. They are most often caused by improper use of copper sulfate. You can easily get poisoned if you exceed the dosage. In rare cases, an allergic reaction to copper sulfate occurs.

The use of the described tool is due to its cheapness. However, in the store you can always find an equally effective and safer drug, which is preferable to use if children are swimming in the pool. Of course, such a product costs several times more, but its safety can hardly be overestimated when it comes to a child.
