The ax is a very valuable tool in the household. It is also needed by hunters, tourists and travelers. But not all products are created equal.

When choosing a tool, it makes sense to pay attention to the products of leading brands.

Peculiarities

Fiskars axes are made by a well-deserved manufacturer. He makes many brilliant quality home and professional instruments. Most importantly, the company has been operating for over 350 years. Initially, she served the peasants of one of the small villages. And today the Finnish concern is well known to consumers in various countries. The developers have created a range of models, each of which is different:

  • increased functionality;
  • attractive design;
  • ergonomics.

Sometimes there are questions about the characteristics of Fiskars Solid axes. In fact, this question does not make sense, since such axes do not exist: various gardening and harvesting tools are combined into the corresponding series. As for any models of axes, even in the cheapest of them, the Finnish company does not miss the opportunity to use double hardening of the blade. As a result, the overall service life increases significantly.

Recently, Fiskars axes are increasingly equipped with an innovative handle material. They are also equipped with an elaborate handle that is easy to grip. It is very easy to cut down a thick tree or split a large log with a Finnish tool. Consumers who have tried different brands in their work, unequivocally say that the tool from Fiskars works faster than analogues. The positive feedback from the owners is largely associated with a special grinding technology: as a result of its application, an especially sharp edge is formed, which is in excellent contact with the wood.

Even the hardest tree trunks do not blunt the instrument for a long time.

Long service life is also ensured by a special coating that reduces friction. The designers took care of the impact amplification by carefully calculating and modeling the distribution of the impact force and the mass of the tool. The handle's reliability is so great that it is very difficult to break it even purposefully. Fiberglass of a unique composition is used to create the handle. It surpasses even high-quality steel in its strength. The recipe for the mixture is, of course, kept secret. But the manufacturer does not hide that such a solution made it possible to lighten the handle and ensure its transformation. Additional advantages of the material are:

  • minimum sliding intensity;
  • high-quality depreciation;
  • zero susceptibility to corrosion;
  • low thermal conductivity.

Cleavers

This wide range from Fiskars is represented in particular by the X11 model. The product is relatively small (44.4 cm long and 15.1 cm wide). If you need to cut down relatively small trees or chop wood from small logs, small dimensions even become an advantage. The job will be done quickly and easily: the engineers have been able to improve the efficiency of the felling literally with every blow. And also the compactness of the instrument makes it a good choice for hiking trips.

A special cover effectively protects the blade from adverse external factors. In addition, it helps the owners not to be afraid of injury.

Versatile tools include cleaver X25. It makes it easy to cut down medium-sized trees and logs. Thanks to the balanced weight and power of the ax, the speed of the blows is maximized.To cut down a large tree, it will come in handy model X27. Its advantages are revealed from the very first strike. A large working part allows you to split wood as accurately as possible. Like other models, this tool is equipped with a reduced friction blade.

As a result, the head part gets stuck during felling.

Universal modifications

This subgroup includes models X5, X7, X10.

  • Fiskars X5 version recommended for travelers, for lovers of picnics. The manufacturer claims that such an ax can successfully replace a tourist knife. The handle is purposefully made hook-shaped: this significantly reduces the risk of the tool slipping out of the hands, which significantly reduces the likelihood of injury-prone situations.
  • X7 version acceptable when you need to chop branches or dump a small tree. Compared to the previous model, the ax is slightly larger. However, it can still be used for tourism purposes.
  • X10 it is already difficult to call it a small ax: the length of the tool reaches 44 cm, its weight is 1.2 kg. Such a device is perfect for joinery and carpentry work.

Selection Tips

The basic selection principles are the same as for other brands of tools. Experts advise to take the hatchet by the handle, and then turn it towards the shoulder. The hatchet should not rest against clothing. If this requirement is not met, then the ax is too large. When this test is passed, the tool is lowered so that the blade hangs in the air. The elbow is supported with the other hand.

They try to raise the ax so that it is in an upright position. If this does not work, it means that the adaptation is unnecessarily difficult.

If you plan to harvest logs from 20 to 30 cm long, the Fiskars X21 ax is recommended. The cutting edge of this model is sharpened at an angle of 35 °. The working part is sanded as accurately as possible. With a width of 16.5 cm, the length of the tool is about 70 cm. There is no doubt about safety. Any Fiskars axes are definitely worth adding to your home toolbox. The main thing is to strictly observe the usual requirements at work and to properly care for the faithful assistant. Any negative feedback on the practical properties of Finnish axes is very rare.

However, they cost a lot of money - and this is the only drawback. But the high price is justified by the quality.

How to care

It doesn't matter which Fiskars model consumers choose. For sharpening, in any case, you need a proprietary sharpener. It is made in the form of a grinding stone. The main material is special ceramics. All that is required is to lower the head through the right-hand groove and then turn it several times. You can sharpen axes in this way in a matter of seconds. In many ways, this is why they have earned an impressive popularity. However, it must be remembered that the ax must be kept in a dry place. Violation of this rule threatens to quickly lose the tool. It is not recommended to use Fiskars products on objects that are harder than wood.
