Lilac is one of the most common ornamental shrubs that Russian gardeners love so much. In addition to its chic appearance, the plant is unpretentious, and it is quite resistant to adverse weather conditions. Common lilac "Nadezhda" looks harmoniously on any garden plot and amazes with its amazing beauty. It is great both for creating compositions with other plants, and for individual plantings.

Description and characteristics

Lilac "Nadezhda" belongs to the variety of Kolesnikov's selection. The variety was bred in the late 60s of the last century. It is known for its large flowers (up to 3 cm), which consist of 2.5 corollas. The inflorescences are gorgeous, have a delicate blue or pink tint and an amazing aroma. In the future, they acquire a satin shade. The inflorescences are quite large, but they look elegant. The aesthetic look of the Nadezhda shrub allows it to be located in any corner of the garden and will undoubtedly attract everyone's attention.

"Nadezhda" blooms from the age of 4. The maximum height of the shrub reaches 4 m. The “Nadezhda” acquires a particularly beautiful appearance in early spring, when it begins to unfurl the leaves. "Hope" blooms later than its brethren. With the arrival of autumn, common lilac sheds its foliage.

The plant is unpretentious, but, unfortunately, it can be subject to viral diseases.

Landing

This variety is resistant to low temperatures, which are typical for long winters. Such a lilac is suitable for planting in the middle and northern regions of the Russian Federation.

The rules for planting and growing common lilac are quite simple, but you should pay attention to some features.

  • Nadezhda prefers slightly acidic or slightly alkaline soils.
  • The land must be well drained. If possible, lime is added to the soil.
  • The shrub should not be planted in the lowlands, where there is little light and air. In a sunny place, the lilac bloom will be much more intense.

Care and reproduction

For the full growth of Nadezhda, competent care is required, despite its obvious unpretentiousness.

  • In arid hot summer, regular watering is important for the shrubs. Young seedlings moisturize especially intensively.
  • Fertilizing the soil, as a rule, is necessary after 2-3 years from the moment the lilacs are planted.
  • When loosening the soil, try not to damage the roots that are on the surface.
  • For the intensity of flowering and for the rejuvenation of adult bushes, common lilac must be cut off. This process is relevant in spring: removing dry brushes will allow the bush to bloom even better next year. Sanitary pruning is carried out in the off-season (spring, autumn). 2-4 old trunks are removed from the shrub, in place of which young ones will grow.

You should not break the lilac branches, you need to use a pruner.

One of the popular propagation methods for this plant is the formation of layers. It implies the following:

  • furrows are made in the soil not far from the bush;
  • young twigs are lowered into them and fixed.

At the end of summer, they should root perfectly, which will allow them to be transplanted to a new location. You can also use grafting methods and grow lilacs using seeds.
