Summer is the time when you can eat and be enriched with vitamins without buying anything in the store, because there are trees and shrubs with berries. But some of the fruits are difficult to reach due to the fact that they are too high. For such cases, there are special devices that help both ordinary berry lovers and experienced gardeners. To understand when special devices are used and how to use them, you should know how the berries are picked in general.

Collection of cherries and cherries

Usually, berry picking starts from the very bottom of the trees - from easily accessible places. Then they move on to the hard-to-reach parts. There are several basic methods of fruit picking:

  • manually;
  • with the help of devices;
  • using a combine or other special machine.

The most common option is to pick the berries by hand.

This method works well for small trees and shrubs and is used in small areas. Special devices are used for hard-to-reach places when the berries cannot be reached on their own.

These devices are used in small areas when everything needs to be done faster and without additional funds.

Separately, you can consider combines and special machines, which are most often used by experienced gardeners. This method involves the use of a mechanical arm or an arched frame harvester. The mechanical arm grabs the tree trunk and shakes off even the tallest fruits. The harvester is used for mass harvesting in the fields due to the use of a brush system. But at home, under normal conditions, harvesters and special machines are not used, more often they are collected by hand.

Tips for picking berries from a tall tree

There are the simplest and Commonly used methods of harvesting fruits from tall trees:

  • use a ladder;
  • shake the tree;
  • pull up branches and collect by hand.

    Each of these methods has disadvantages.

    • The use of ladders is not possible for trees with a thin trunk. Either you need a stepladder, which not everyone has, or additional help that may not be nearby.
    • After shaking, it is necessary to collect fruits from the ground, some may fly away, some may be damaged, and some may remain on the tree altogether.
    • Pulling the branches will not always be able to reach all the fruits, and if you overdo it, you can even break the branch. This method is more suitable for small trees where there is no need to pull up the branches too much.

    To avoid problems with the most accessible and common harvesting methods, experienced gardeners advise using special devices for picking berries from tall trees.

      Such devices are called fruit pickers or fruit pickers. You can buy them in stores or make your own.

      Collection devices

      There are many different options on the market for picking berries from tall trees. Prices and application features can be very different, so sometimes it is easier to make the necessary device yourself. But both when buying and when building manually a device for picking berries, you should take into account some of the features that a fruit picker should have:

      • efficiency when picking berries: speed and gentleness of harvesting;
      • safety of use;
      • convenience;
      • device length is a determining factor for tall trees.

        Having determined the necessary characteristics of the fruit collector, we can conclude that it is easier to buy or make such a device on your own. It should be borne in mind that with your own hands you can make not only a more suitable device, but also at no cost.

        How to do it yourself?

        Materials and options for making fruit collectors for collecting cherries and cherries may be different. Let's consider the simplest and most affordable methods.

        From a plastic bottle

        For this collector would need:

        • tank (bottle) with a volume of 1 or 2 liters;
        • stationery knife;
        • handle of the required length;
        • screw.

        Cut the bottle into 2 pieces. At the top, a stick is inserted into the connector from under the cork - it and the handle will be the bottom of the fruit collector.

        You need to fix the stick with a screw. And at the formed upper part, incisions are made of 2-4 centimeters in length, into which the cuttings of the berries will fall, and the fruits will fall into the tank.

        From a plastic tube

        To create a fruit picker would need:

        • a plastic or plastic tube of the required length and of such a diameter that the berries pass freely, this tube will need to be held vertically, so it should not be heavy and elastic;
        • a knife that can cut the tube of the selected material;
        • a heating element;
        • container for berries (cut off part of a 2 or 5 liter bottle).

        One end of the tube needs to be cut obliquely and a small groove up to 1 centimeter wide is made at this end so that the cuttings of the berries can fit into it, but the berries themselves do not pass.

        The top of the end where the groove is located should be bent by heating the material and acting on the heated part with any tool.

        The other end of the tube is also cut obliquely and placed in a container where the berries will descend. The section of the part in the tank should be no more than the tank itself so that the berries do not fall out, but not much less so that there is no accumulation. You can also fasten the container and the reservoir by heating.

        From a tin can

        This is a fruit picker that is not safe and not recommended for use by children. To create you will need:

        • tin;
        • metal cutter;
        • handle of the required length;
        • two nails or screws.

        On one side, the jar should be closed, or a collection container should be attached to its open side, and on the other side, the middle should be cut with a cutter so that cloves remain on the sides, which will capture the berries.

        Then it is worth attaching the handle to the bank with nails or screws.

        And from nails or wire, you can build a device that will facilitate the collection of fruits from the tree. Having a long, curved nail or hard wire at home can be the basis for creating a hook. They may be needed when picking berries from thin branches that can be broken through carelessness, or from trees of medium height, when you just need to pull up a branch a little. You can make a hook in one of two ways.

        Wire

        For this would need:

        • wire 1 meter or more;
        • rag rope.

        It is necessary to bend the wire at both ends. On the one hand, make it in the form of a hook, and on the other, bend it a little more - this will be the handle. Wrap the resulting handle with a rope to make it easier to hold.

        From the nail

        For this would need:

        • a bent nail or a straight one, which will have to be bent in the future;
        • a wooden handle of the required length (preferably round (like a shovel handle) and not very heavy, because it will have to be lifted);
        • hammer.

        If the nail is already bent, then we simply drive it into one of the ends of the wooden handle, if not, then drive in an even nail and then bend it with a hammer. To make harvesting quicker and easier, you do not have to spend money on buying special tools. You can just be smart and independently build a device for collecting cherries and cherries.
