All climbing plants are an excellent decoration for the garden, but roses are of particular interest to flower growers. Delicate and fragrant flowers create a special unique atmosphere that combines home comfort and graceful luxury. That is why they are most often used to decorate the garden and the local area, using pergolas for this, which will be discussed in our article.

Peculiarities

To form a hedge, supports are usually used - pergolas, which help to hold the overgrown plant. In addition to the main purpose, the structure also has a decorative function. This graceful structure not only serves as a support for flowers, a hedge, a gazebo, but is also an excellent recreation area.

A pergola for roses is an openwork structure made of metal pipes or wooden bars. The support can be covered with a lattice, on the crossbars of which the growing shoots of curly flowers will cling.

The peculiarity of pergolas is their functionality. They can be used to create a decorative canopy in the form of structures of any shape. Plants enveloping the structure create hedges and natural shade. Thus, they can be used to create gazebos and other places to relax in hot weather.

Another purpose of pergolas for roses is to support weak and curly shoots in order to preserve and hold thin trunks, on which a large number of buds are located. Most often, such a support is used for curly varieties of flowers - for climbing and other types of roses, such as Rambler, Climber or Climbing.

In addition to its functional purpose, the pergola is capable of performing other tasks as well. These include:

  • preservation of the decorativeness of flowers and their original design;
  • giving the bushes of climbing varieties of compactness and comfortable shapes.

When choosing a pergola, it is necessary to take into account the size of the site and the stability of the structure. It is very important that it be able to withstand the total weight of the bush even in strong gusts of wind.

Varieties

There are quite a few design options for supporting plants and their decorative design. The most popular are summer gazebos and arches for use in landscaping. At the request of the owner of the site, the pergolas can be made independently or purchased a ready-made structure.

Popular types of rose supports:

  • vertical stands;
  • pyramids;
  • columns;
  • stairs;
  • summer gazebos;
  • arches and pergolas.

The simplest and most affordable types of supports are a wooden or metal arch, as well as openwork pergolas with a transparent polycarbonate roof. Depending on the variety of roses used, forged arches or openwork wooden trellises can act as a decorative support.

In keeping with the overall design of the garden, white climbing roses can be used to decorate gazebos or summer seating areas. Bright red or pink flowers are perfect for decorating the local area and other brick buildings.

DIY making

Various support models have common construction principles. Depending on the shape and details of fastening additional elements, the installation of the pergola is carried out in several stages.

  • First of all, a diagram is drawn with a general view of the structure. Further, more accurate dimensional drawings are created. In the plan, it is imperative to indicate the length of both vertical and horizontal supports, taking into account the part for deepening into the ground.
  • The dimensions of the upper part of the pergola are calculated. It is necessary to take into account the width and height of the net and the crossbars made of wood.
  • On the site, markings are made for the installation and fastening of the support posts. The thickness of the supports must withstand the entire structure, taking into account the green spaces.
  • Installation of a pergola. Pits with a depth of at least 50 cm are dug for fastenings on which lattice shields are installed.

Instead of shields, you can use a mesh-netting, for this you need to install additional supports. Pass a few crossbars to keep the mesh from sagging.

Prepare the necessary materials and tools. To create a simple structure you will need:

  • beams for supports and their bundles - 4 pcs.;
  • bars for the top of the awning or ceiling;
  • saw, tape measure, level, stakes, screwdriver, screwdriver;
  • paint, varnish and other coatings;
  • cement.

The step-by-step instructions for making a wooden pergola include several points.

  1. Layout of the site for the selected structure. Use pre-drawn diagrams and drawings.
  2. Installation of supports. Dig holes near the marking stakes, install beams in them using a level. Pour the pits with a solution and leave until completely solidified.
  3. Installation of tie supports. Connect all the main beams around the perimeter using supports. The step size depends on the overall width and height of the structure.
  4. Installation and fastening of the upper part of the pergola. The ceiling structure is fixed with bars that are placed parallel to each other. Secure with screws.

If you wish, you can build pergolas in the form of trellises, put a grid or lattice. Such a summer construction can be easily removed indoors in winter.

When choosing a suitable design, it is important to consider not only the variety of roses, but also the total weight of the overgrown bush.

Beautiful examples

Almost all varieties of climbing roses are used in landscape design. Depending on the type, different types of pergolas are used for them. The most interesting options for decorating a garden are shrubs and ramblers.

Powerful bushes with thick stiff branches rarely grow above 2 meters. That is why designers are advised to place shrubs on arches or gazebos. Despite the strength of the stems, support for these roses is also necessary. Vertical pergolas made of wood or metal are best suited for this type.
