Each housewife tries to use the space as efficiently as possible. In the modern pace of life, not everyone is able to use the services of public laundries. Therefore, many women equip a "corner of cleanliness" in their apartment or private house.

What should be included in the room?

Most will answer this question in the same way - a washing machine is needed here. But besides it, you may also need a drying machine (or dryer). Containers, laundry baskets, household chemicals are also integral parts of the laundry. You can also iron things there. This does not have to be done with a professional vertical steaming iron, a regular model will work too. But in this case, you will also need an ironing board.

Shelves for storing laundry will help you save space in your closet. Don't forget about the sink. It is also an essential attribute of such a room.

Where to begin?

Choosing a location for a laundry is often more difficult than setting up a laundry. Living in their home, many arrange a laundry in the basement or boiler room. If there is a lot of space in the building, then a separate room will be the best option. Preference is given to square rooms. They are more functional. By placing everything you need in such a room, you can save a maximum of free space.

In one-story houses without a basement and an attic, as well as in one-room apartments, every centimeter counts. At the same time, the owners want the laundry to be accessible, but the sound of the working appliances would not interfere with everyday life.

In these cases, the most popular are the following places for placing equipment:

  • bathroom;
  • bathroom;
  • kitchen.

If there is not enough space in the house

It is quite easy to equip a laundry room in a strictly defined area. The size of such a zone can be from 2 sq. m up to 6 sq. m. Even a mini-laundry can be equipped with maximum functionality.

Two square meters are quite capable of accommodating a washing machine, dryer, and laundry basket.

Option 1

Both machines are positioned 5 cm apart with a laundry basket above or to the side. The distance is necessary so that vibrations from the operation of the devices do not shorten their service life. The equipped area can be “hidden” from prying eyes with the help of doors and furniture boards. It can even be created in the hallway by closing it with a compartment door or accordion.

Option 2

Cars can be stacked on top of each other. To implement such a project, you will need a box of furniture boards. You will also need mounts that prevent them from vibrating and falling during operation. This mini laundry can also be decorated with doors. Laundry baskets can be placed on the side of the shelves.

Laundry appliances located in the bathroom, washroom or kitchen are usually hidden under countertops. Often they are hidden behind doors to give the room a more aesthetic look.

Layout

It is worth thinking about the number and size of equipment when choosing a place for a laundry. It is also important to carry out preparatory activities.

The floor covering must be even and preferably anti-slip. Otherwise, equipment vibrating during operation can negatively affect its quality. The material for the floor should be chosen moisture resistant, with a rough surface. This could be:

  • ceramic tile;
  • ceramic granite;
  • linoleum.

Before laying the flooring, it is worthwhile to level the surface, insulate and warm the floor. Also, to reduce vibration and prevent slipping, it is worth purchasing anti-vibration pads.

The adjoining wall decoration should also be made of moisture resistant materials that can be combined with each other. Suitable for these purposes:

  • plaster;
  • dye;
  • moisture resistant wallpaper;
  • ceramic tiles of various sizes and types.

Walls should be leveled before painting, tiling or wallpapering.

For the ceiling, use wallpaper, decorative plaster, moisture-resistant cardboard or PVC stretch ceiling. The latter can become not only an excellent water-repellent coating, but also a real decoration of the room, because there is a huge selection of shades and textures on the market.

The drainage and water supply system must be individual for each device. It is worth noting that regardless of whether water comes from a water supply system, a well or a well, it is worth additionally installing pumping and filtering equipment at the entrance to the room. This is necessary for the laundry to function properly. The wiring is done after that. For the supply and discharge of water, plastic pipes with a diameter of 5-6 and 10-15 cm, respectively, are used.

Ventilation is also required. It helps to avoid unpleasant odors in the room.

It is also important to think over the heating system. The equipment should not be located in the immediate vicinity of a heat source, but a constant temperature must be maintained in the room, which is necessary for the correct functioning of the devices.

The heating system can be different:

  • central heating;
  • heating with convectors;
  • warm floor.

Choosing the last option, it is worth deciding where the devices will be located, and retreating 10 cm from this place. It is not recommended to mount a warm floor on the allocated area. Also, it is not advised to place pipes for draining water on its surface.

If the room will be used as a dryer, then plums should be made on the floor surface. They will help to avoid the unpleasant smell of settled water and the destruction of the floor covering.

Electrical wiring and lighting must be carried out on the basis of an already prepared plan. It is advisable to place it under a wall covering with good insulation. There are special switches, sockets and shades that prevent moisture from getting inside.

Design

The area of the washing room can vary. This can be a small laundry room nestled in the kitchen (bathroom, toilet, hallway or room) or a full-size laundry room with all amenities that occupies an entire room.

In any case, it is worth thinking about the decorative design of this zone, because this is not just an economic object, but also a part of the home.

You can develop your own original design or harmoniously fit this area into the overall interior of the house.

Most suitable styles:

  • minimalism;
  • retro;
  • country style;
  • modern.

          The beauty is in the details. You can replace plastic baskets with wicker baskets, purchase containers for storing household chemicals in the same style. If the room is located in the basement, the lack of sunlight can be compensated for by the surfaces of the cabinets painted in warm colors. One has only to show a little imagination, and you can create a cozy and unique design of the room, in which it will be pleasant to be.
