Chubushnik Lemoine, or garden jasmine, is highly valued by gardeners for its unusually beautiful flowers and a pronounced pleasant smell. The subtleties of cultivation and features of various types are in our article.

Description

The shrub is distinguished by a spreading decorative crown with a large number of arcuate shoots, depending on the variety, the bush has a height of 1-3 m. The width of the crown can reach 2 m. The leaf plates are ovoid, in length - from 4 to 7 cm, painted in a light green color. The bark on the shoots is gray-brown; as the shrub matures, thin cracks form on it. The buds are cupped and rather large - 2–5 cm in diameter.

Flowers are of different types: simple, semi-double or double. They are collected in small (5-11 flowers) loose inflorescences in the form of a corolla. The color of the flowers is mainly white, there are varieties with milky-creamy petals, as well as those with burgundy or pink tints in the middle. The combination of large, beautifully curved petals and elongated yellow-milky stamens gives the buds elegance. The buds bloom mainly in June, the flowering period lasts from 10 to 25 days.

Varieties

The varietal variety of chubushnik is impressive in its quantity. Thanks to the painstaking work of the Lemoine family of breeders, the new forms impress with their magnificent, picturesque appearance.

"Alabaster"

Quite a low shrub (up to 1.5 m), with erect stems and a large number of lateral shoots, on which rather large elongated inflorescences are formed. The buds are large in size, up to 5.5 cm in diameter. The petals are quite wide, snow-white. Semi-double or simple flowers have a pronounced aroma. Flowering occurs at the end of June and can last for about a month.

"White bouquet"

Not too tall variety, not exceeding 1.5 m.During flowering, the entire bush is densely covered with large double buds with a diameter of about 5 cm.The flower has the shape of a corolla, in which the bottom row consists of wide petals, and inside there are several rows of narrower ones. This variety is remarkable for its extraordinary beauty, but very sensitive to cold.

"Ermine Mantle"

Belongs to squat shrubs, rarely grows up to 1 m. Inflorescences are formed from 2-3 small double-type buds, but are densely located along the entire length of the shoots. Flowering is long, it can last a month, the cascading shoots with an abundance of white flowers look like a fluffy mantle.

Belle Etual

The name of the variety translates as "beautiful star", the plant is unusually beautiful. The bush has a compact size (up to a meter in height) and erect shoots. In regions with a warmer climate, the shrub can grow up to 1.5 m. The white flowers have a bright spot of purplish pink in the center. The leaves are rare, barely noticeable, against their background, the opened buds really look like stars. A light strawberry aroma completes this enchanting picture.

Mont Blanc

A variety with snow-white inflorescences, abundantly and fairly densely covering the bush. They consist of 3-4 buds, the petals in the bottom row are wide, located very close to each other, and the inner ones are turned to the stamens. Flowering begins in mid-June and lasts more than a month.

"Dame Blanche"

The shrub is distinguished by its low growth and small leaf plates. Semi-double flowers appear at the end of June.

"Avalanche"

"Snow avalanche"

An improved hybrid of the previous variety. The shoots, abundantly covered with snow-white buds, fall beautifully down, creating the illusion of an avalanche. Flowering begins earlier than other varieties. The variety is distinguished by its comparative frost resistance.

"Pyramidal"

Refers to tall shrubs. The buds form on annual stems and spread out in a fan-like fashion. Inflorescences are semi-double, have a mild aroma. Flowering is long, but begins later than other varieties.

"The charm"

Minnesota Snowflake

Tall shrub with straight stems up to 2 m in height. Small double flowers of snow-white color look beautiful against the background of dark green large foliage. Belongs to the early flowering variety.

Garden jasmine has many more equally spectacular and charming varieties with unusual inflorescences and aroma.

Agricultural rules

Chubushnik Lemoine is a very delicate plant, but does not require special conditions when grown. For abundant flowering, the shrub needs a well-lit area, but with the possibility of light shading. It is also better when it is protected from the wind. It is worth planting the bush at a low elevation so that the water does not stagnate and the groundwater is not close to the soil surface. The timing of planting seedlings with a closed root system is not fundamental: they root well at any time, but it is important that the root collar is flush with the soil.

Plants with exposed roots should be given a little more attention. They take root better during autumn planting, the optimal time is mid-September-October. The hole is made a little more than the volume of the roots, covered with nutritious soil and watered abundantly.

You can also plant a bush in early spring, but before the leaves begin to unfold. In the first year of life, the bushes should not be fed, since the roots are still weak.

Caring for Lemoine's chubushnik does not take much time and effort. The shrub needs:

  • regular moisturizing;

  • periodic application of complex mineral fertilizers (in spring and at the end of flowering);

  • as needed - pruning, mainly mature plants need it;

  • varieties with a low threshold of frost resistance should be covered for the winter, especially young bushes.

As you can see, the care and maintenance of garden jasmine is not too burdensome and costly. Having given a little care to the plant, you can enjoy its charming appearance and unsurpassed aroma for a long time.
