Yellow varieties of sweet cherries are very popular, they are even more in demand than red and pink ones, since many people find it more pleasant to taste. One of the best varieties of such cherries is Priusadebnaya yellow. It is worth noting that this type has practically no drawbacks.

Breeding history

Household yellow belongs to the Russian selection. She was bred at the Michurin All-Russian Research Institute of Genetics and Breeding. The work was carried out by the following scientists: G. G. Nikiforova, B. L. Nikitin, I. N. Zolotukhina and L. A. Deineka. During the development, the varieties Leningradskaya Krasnaya and Zolotaya Loshitskaya were crossed. The variety became widespread in the 90s.

Description of the variety

Those who plan to plant such cherries on the site should find out in advance its features:

  • the tree is vigorous, the standard height is 4 meters, but sometimes it can go up to 5-6;

  • the trunk is very massive, strong, the root system grows in a horizontal type;

  • shoots are straight, their thickness is medium, the color is predominantly brownish-brown;

  • the crown is a regular sphere, the branches in it grow in tiers, the diameter is about 4 meters;

  • leaves are large, painted in a light green color, oval-conical in shape;

  • foliage does not thicken the crown much;

  • large white flowers with a rich aroma are collected in inflorescences of 3-5 pieces.

The advantages of the Priusadebnaya yellow variety are as follows:

  • excellent indicators of drought and frost resistance;

  • fruits ripen on trees early;

  • the plant gives excellent yields with excellent taste;

  • cherries pollinate themselves;

  • the tree is highly immune to most diseases.

There are some downsides too:

  • the tree is very tall, so pruning and picking cherries will not be easy;

  • culture needs a lot of space on the site;

  • the first fruiting occurs only at the 6th year of the seedling's life.

Fruit characteristics

Consider the main features of the Home Garden yellow fruit:

  • drupes are rather large, 2 cm in height and 2.1 cm in diameter;

  • fruits usually weigh 5.5 g, discrepancies are rare;

  • in shape, cherries resemble round balls, their configuration is even, regular, without flattening;

  • the fruits are colored in a juicy yellow shade, which is both the main and integumentary color;

  • there are no subcutaneous points on the drupes;

  • the fruits are fixed on long stalks, they come off wonderfully;

  • the skin is smooth, bare;

  • the pulp is yellow in color, it is quite juicy, there are small cartilages inside;

  • the bone is separated quite well, without effort;

  • the harvested crop can lie 4-5 days in good conditions.

Taste qualities

Cherries of this variety are sweet and sour, but the sweetness in the fruits is felt much stronger. The sourness serves to harmonize the taste. The juice has no coloring pigments. Drupes are usually eaten fresh, straight from the tree. But this cherry is also suitable for cooking.

Ripening and fruiting

May is the month of the beginning of flowering of the Home Garden yellow.And the fruits will ripen on it in June. In terms of timing, the sweet cherry is early, but its early maturity, as already noted, is not a plus.

After planting the seedlings, it will take a long time before you can see the first berries on the tree. The first flowering occurs only in the fourth year of the tree's life. At this time, the tree produces only a small number of flowers. In the fifth year, you can already expect more active flowering and the first, albeit small, harvest. A decent harvest can be harvested for 6-7 years.

Yield

The backyard yellow, having begun to bear fruit once, then does it stably. There are no dormant periods for cherries, there are only more or less fruitful years. In unfavorable periods, the amount of the crop will reach 20-35 kg, and in good years, gardeners collect an average of 45 kilograms from a tree.

Growing regions

This culture grows well in the Central Black Earth Region, Moscow region. It is widely cultivated in the southwestern part of Russia.

Self-fertility and the need for pollinators

Sweet cherry is self-fertile, but without the participation of pollinators, yields will be small. Therefore, if there is a place on the site, then it is highly recommended to plant other varieties there. Trees should bloom at the same period. Moreover, both cherries and cherries can be used for pollination. Gardeners recommend the following pollinator varieties:

  • Vinca;

  • Early ripening;

  • Valery Chkalov;

  • Bigaro Burlat.

Growing and care

Home garden yellow is planted only in the spring, and the leaves should not yet bloom on the seedling. It is worth considering that the culture is growing rapidly, so it will need a lot of space on the site. In order for a tree to lack anything, it must have 12 square meters of soil free from other plantings. When planting a crop in rows, the distance must be taken into account. Between seedlings it is 3 meters, and between rows - 5. After planting, the root collar should rise slightly above the soil level. The seedling is necessarily tied to a support.

Pruning is one of the main points of care for this variety. It is better to choose a sparse-tiered crown shape. All tiers should have three large, healthy branches. In relation to the central conductor, they grow at an obtuse angle. The distance between the tiers is 0.5 meters. Formation is carried out up to 6 years of age on average. Then they are limited to sanitary and thinning scraps.

Important: if it bloomed in the first year of the tree's life, you need to immediately remove all these flowers. Otherwise, the seedling will not develop well. And when the plant begins to bear fruit, you will need to cut off about half of the ovaries. So the drupes will grow larger and sweeter.

The first watering is carried out even before flowering. If not carried out, the tree can throw off all its ovaries. Further, irrigation is carried out according to the standard methods for fruit trees, at least three times per season. If the summer is extremely hot, then you will have to water the cherries every 7 days. But under normal warm conditions, you can limit yourself to once a month. Young seedlings are given about 3-5 buckets of water, but adult trees with fully developed roots - at least 10.

Gardeners lay the main top dressing even during planting. They usually last for two years. Further, the tree begins to provide useful elements. In the spring, plants are most often watered with urea, and in the summer they use mixtures that contain phosphorus and potassium. In the fall, the soil must be dug up. It will need to add humus, superphosphate and potassium salt. In addition, this variety responds well to green herbal infusions. Such feeding can be organized even several times per season.

Sweet cherries are planted in a sunny and well-protected place from the wind. The soil should be fertile, loose and moisture-permeable. There are two options for planting cherries - spring and autumn. The first option is the most preferred and is suitable for all growing regions.In the southern regions, planting can be carried out in the fall.
One of the benefits of grafting a tree is to restore overgrown plants, improve the taste of the fruit, and adapt southern varieties to cool climates. If you follow all the recommendations of experts, you can strengthen the immune system of cherries, and it will be more resistant to pests and diseases.
In order to harvest a rich and tasty cherry crop every year, you need to properly care for it. Timely watering is one of the essential steps in care. The rate of watering a cherry tree directly depends on how dry and hot the weather is, and on the amount of precipitation. Basically, cherries need to be watered about 3-5 times per season, depending on the weather conditions in your area.
One of the most important agrotechnical measures in the cultivation of sweet cherry is correct and timely pruning. Correct pruning eliminates the consumption of nutrients for infertile shoots, so more trace elements are sent to the fruiting branches. This process increases the quality and quantity of the harvest.

Disease and pest resistance

Backyard yellow is very rare. Ailments affect her mainly due to improper care. For example, with incorrect pruning, excessive irrigation. Then such ailments as rust, clotted spore can develop. In addition, an improperly formed crown makes it difficult to access the crop, and many fruits inside are deprived of oxygen. Thickening, decay begins. In addition to diseases, cherries can be attacked by weevils, aphids, sawflies.

When caring for cherries, you need to carry out timely protection against various pests and pathogens. Depending on the cause and nature of the course, all cherry diseases can be conditionally divided into several categories - infectious and non-infectious. Each category of diseases provides for its own plan and method of treatment, the use of certain drugs and folk remedies.

Requirements for soil and climatic conditions

Home garden yellow is characterized by excellent indicators of drought resistance and cold resistance. For the winter, it will have to be sheltered only in regions with snowless winters. The plant is not afraid of heat and prefers the lightest and warmest areas of the cottage. But it does not like the wind, so it is recommended to place cherries of this type near buildings. Culture soil needs fertile, light, loose. It can be sandy loam or loam. High humidity should not be allowed, so the location of groundwater will also have to be taken into account.

Self-cultivation of sweet cherries is a complicated process. It is important to follow all the necessary subtleties and techniques for the fruit tree to take root. There are several ways to propagate cherries: grafting on another tree, cuttings, growing from a stone, propagation by root shoots or layering.
