The processing of metal blanks is a production process that requires the use of special equipment. Cutting-off machines provide efficient and fast cutting of metal products. It is worth considering in more detail the features of such installations and the principle of their operation.

Characteristic

The abrasive cut-off machine is a high-performance electrical equipment that is used to form cross-cutting of various steel products and rolled metal products. The design of any machine includes:

  • solid foundation;
  • saw head;
  • work tool.

The advantage of this type of installation lies in the technical characteristics. Manufacturers assemble reliable installations that can cope with tasks of any complexity. All models of abrasive machines can be divided into vertical and horizontal, if we consider the orientation of the direction of movement of the working tool.

Additional structural elements:

  • stable base;
  • pendulum mechanism;
  • engine;
  • res.

Pros of using such installations:

  • cutting long workpieces without additional help;
  • safety of use due to the high accuracy of assembly of the unit structure and protection systems against accidental activation;
  • adjustment of the cutting angle, which increases the functionality of the device.

As for the characteristics, regardless of the model, each rotary machine has the following features.

  1. Durable abrasive wheel. The element is capable of handling both soft and durable workpieces without deforming or wearing out prematurely. Sharp blades ensure quality cuts even at high speeds.
  2. Work at an angle from 0 to 45 degrees. This design solution expands the capabilities of the machine.
  3. Protective cover. Prevents the penetration of dust into the device, preventing wear of the working medium.

Each machine is equipped with a special vice, by means of which it is possible to tightly fix the workpiece and increase the cut quality to the maximum.

Principle of operation

Abrasive machines are available for both professional and household use. Regardless of this, any unit is based on the same principle of operation:

  • the part that needs to be processed is tightly fixed on the working surface;
  • the engine is put into operation by consuming electricity;
  • the motor drives the abrasive disc, gradually accelerating the rotation of the element;
  • the operator controls the position of the blade, ensuring the cut at the desired angle.

The maximum cutting depth that a motor can provide with a power of, for example, 2000 W, is 11.5 cm.

If the disc is deformed or worn out during operation, it can be easily replaced. The procedure does not pose any danger due to the presence of a special fixing device in the design. Working with the workpiece, in turn, is simplified by clamps, with the help of which it is possible to fix the part in one place.

The machine is controlled by an ergonomic rubberized handle. The machine body is made of aluminum, which increases the rigidity and extends its service life.

Choice

Manufacturers regularly expand their range of abrasive machines, releasing new models and updating existing ones. The variety of units complicates the choice and does not allow you to immediately purchase a device suitable for all parameters. To simplify the process, it is worth considering the following criteria when buying.

  1. Engine power. The productivity of the complex and the quality of material processing depend on this parameter. For domestic use, motors with a power of up to 2.2 kW are suitable; in professional activities, preference should be given to machines with a power of 5 kW.
  2. Cutting speed. The higher the number, the faster the cut will be. When considering this parameter, it is worth paying attention to the power again.
  3. The type of materials to be cut. The strength characteristics of the abrasive disc depend on this. Some models are suitable for cutting mild steel, others are suitable for cutting thick and sturdy structures.

Additionally, it is worth considering the manufacturer, dimensions and cost of the model. For a home workshop, it will be enough to buy a standard hand-operated cut-off machine of compact dimensions. Production will require the purchase of larger models with wide functionality.

Application

Abrasive machines are used in large enterprises and in home workshops, if you want to organize efficient and fast cutting of metal blanks and profiles. The equipment copes well with durable and soft materials, processing products from both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as alloys. To achieve the desired result, manufacturers equip the design of installations with sharp abrasive wheels.
