The rejection of room partitions led to an increase and complication of the internal space, it became necessary to highlight a specific part of the room with light. This task is solved by the organization of ceiling lighting. Lighting is becoming a method of modeling space. From this article you will find out which lamps are needed to illuminate the ceiling, how they need to be mounted and which lighting method to choose.

Peculiarities

The light in the room should illuminate the entire room evenly. It can be impossible to illuminate corner or remote areas with one chandelier. The two-level ceilings and complex configurations of the transforming space make it impossible to install the chandelier in the center of the ceiling. In this case, ceiling lighting around the perimeter is used or additional lighting elements are mounted on suspended ceiling structures in darkened areas. This increases the degree of illumination.

Modern ceiling design options exclude the chandelier altogether., lamps are placed along the perimeter of the ceiling in special constructive niches or evenly distributed over the entire surface of the ceiling covering.

Illumination of a two-level ceiling is successfully used for zoning rooms. The layouts, where the kitchen, dining room, living room, bedroom are combined in one space, are equipped with multi-level ceilings with lighting according to the functionality of the zone. The chandelier is mounted in the living room area, and in others - several spot or ribbon lamps.

The backlight is used to create a decorative effect. The decorative function of ceiling lighting is combined with a functional one or becomes the main task of creating a stylish interior. In this case, the light elements emphasize the design features of the room or solve the color and information problem. They use different colors to create a certain mood in the interior, or it can be a thematic distribution of lighting, for example, a starry sky or a butterfly garden.

The placement of light sources is involved in modeling space. Placing a light strip along a short wall will lengthen it, while positioning the light laterally shortens and widens the distance between opposing walls. In a low room, the illumination is made along the inner contour of the suspended structure. The illumination of the outer contour of the hanging box visually enlarges the space.

Types of lamps

These multifaceted tasks are solved with the help of certain types of luminaires.

Incandescent lamps require large suspended structures, sufficient room height - more than 3 meters, and a large area of the room. Suspended lamps are mounted in the vertical parts of the levels, evenly distributing them around the perimeter or grouping them for zoning. This type of backlight has good performance and brightness, burned out bulbs are easy to replace, no special transformers are required. Small urban spaces are not well suited for this type of lighting. It is more often used in suburban areas in gazebos, on terraces, in basements, in a bathhouse, in interiors made in a vintage style or in a loft style.

LED Strip Light - the most popular light element today. They decorate the ceiling, regardless of the height and area of the room, it can glow in any color depending on the owner's desire, it has various degrees of brightness - from dimmed night light to bright daylight. The soft material of the tape does not heat up, it can form any images. Very lightweight material can be attached to absolutely any suspended structure. The color and brightness of the glow are set using the control panel. LED strip is a very economical luminaire with a long service life, where it is easy to replace a failed part.

But installation requires electrical skills. It is necessary to first draw a diagram of the location of the tape, calculate the length. LED strip is sold by the meter. Distinguish between LEDs by power and the number of lamps in a running meter. 30-50 bulbs per meter will be enough for a bathroom, kitchen or bedroom; it is better to install a tape with a higher density of lamps in the living room. For power, choose SMD35 or SMD50. LED strip can be moisture resistant - this is the best choice for sanitary rooms and kitchens. These types of lamps have become the favorites of the high-tech style.

Individual LED lights very small, economical, lightweight, do not require a plafond. Since a large number of light bulbs are needed to illuminate the interior, a rather complex wiring system is required for their installation, but the decorative effect is obvious.

Neon lights for a couple of decades it has been in great demand as decorative lighting in cinemas, bars and restaurants. Economical neon lamps with a sufficient lifetime require special equipment and specialists to shape the glass tube into the desired shape and output it to the electrical network. Later, the neon light was forgotten. Minimalism and hi-tech styles breathed a second life into neon. Beautiful colors and soft diffused light give romantic or futuristic features to the interior of the room.

Mounting

At the first stage, the installation of the ceiling niche structures is carried out to accommodate the lamps. The height of the structure must be sufficient for the height of the lamp base. The electrical wiring is placed inside, it becomes completely hidden behind the surface of the ceiling.

Holes are made in the ceiling for spotlights. Strip LEDs are placed in a special profile fixed to the surface of the drywall. To create a diffused glow, the profile with the tape is covered with frosted glass. Neon strip lights do not require a profile and glass screen, they just need to be fixed with fasteners in several places.

The LED strip is not attached to the stretch ceiling, it is placed between the fabric and the concrete ceiling or in the side levels of plasterboard.

Accommodation in the interior

Interior design uses a combination of different ceilings and lighting methods. In the kitchen, two zones are distinguished by lighting: above the working surface of the kitchen unit and above the dining table. Pendant structures are made over these two zones and illuminated with the same spotlights. Another stylish solution - a suspended plasterboard box above the working area is equipped with spotlights, and a stretch ceiling with LED strip lighting is mounted above the dining area.

The living room combines several functions: here the whole family gathers after work, they immediately receive guests, watch TV. Several types of lighting are appropriate here. In the living room, along with the bright light of the ceiling chandeliers, the addition will be placed in a niche evening neon lighting for dance parties or movie screenings.

Minimalism in interiors prefers a monochromatic design and an almost complete absence of furniture. The color and arrangement of the light serves to fill the space. In the bedroom, the headboard area is highlighted with illumination and ceiling relief. The color is chosen in calm, pacifying tones: blue or purple.

A well-known technique is the placement in the center of the bedroom of a glass stained-glass window with a floral pattern in the Art Nouveau style or a stretch ceiling with illumination. Illuminated niches on several levels with different types of lighting break up the space of a small room and give it depth and versatility. Depending on the time of day, either a glowing stained-glass window is left, or a row of spotlights above the headboard for reading, or a deep niche with a strip LED above the opposite wall.

A spectacular design for a children's room is the "starry sky" from point LEDs. You can adjust the lighting of different zones of the children's room by combining different types of lamps and curly levels of the plasterboard ceiling. These sophisticated backlit ceilings create volumetric compositions of the sky with clouds. Kids look at them with pleasure, and parents at any time of the day can choose a convenient degree of light brightness.

For schoolchildren, the active allocation of the working and sleeping areas is appropriate. The working area is emphasized by the deep relief of the plasterboard ceiling, the bedroom is decorated with a calm classic ceiling. The lighting solution must also correspond to the function of each section of the room. The geometric structure of the tiered ceiling with an energetic yellow design is adorned with the same color LED lighting in the geometric pattern of the suspended ceiling.

Zoning in a teenager's room is necessary for successful study and good rest. Preparation of lessons and classes should take place in good lighting and in a calm color scheme. The zone of sleep and active pastime should be highlighted with structural elements and light.

In the bathroom, the area above the mirror and washbasin is traditionally illuminated. In large bathrooms, different-colored lighting on the ceiling, connected to different switches, will provide an intimate separation of the shower area, bathroom and washbasin. The illuminated panel above the bathroom will make relaxing treatments more enjoyable.
