Pear Rainbow is a popular variety, included in the state register only in 2021. Ural breeders paid special attention to the timing of fruit ripening, as well as the yield of trees. The variety is declared as universal, promising for planting in gardens and summer cottages.

Description of the variety

Pear trees of this variety are medium-sized, with a medium dense crown, which has a wide-pyramidal shape. Branches grow in different directions, annuals are directed upward, fruit-bearing ones slightly bend downward. Average spreading. The tree is not prone to increased shoots. The flowers are white, abundantly decorate the branches, but do not have a pronounced aroma.

Fruit characteristics

Pears of the Raduzhnaya variety have a regular rounded shape, calibrated, practically of the same size. Fruits are medium, weighing about 120 g. On the skin there are noticeable green dots, it itself is colored in a grassy yellow tone with a blurred pink cover. The pulp is creamy.

Taste qualities

The tasting score of the fruit is high, reaching 4.2 points. The taste of pears is sour-sweet, the pulp is juicy, coarse-grained, not very dense.

Ripening and fruiting

Late summer variety. Harvesting begins in August. It is customary to remove the fruits for transportation in the 1st decade of the month, 10-14 days before the onset of full maturity. The first pears appear on the branches by 5-6 years after planting.

Ripening of pears begins in the second half of summer and lasts until mid-autumn. To keep the pears fresh and tasty until winter, harvesting takes into account the characteristics of the variety, the ripening time and the weather conditions in the region.

Yield

The declared collection volumes reach 29.5 centners per hectare. About 16-17 kg of fruit are obtained from the tree.

Growing regions

Pear of the Raduzhnaya variety is zoned for cultivation in the Volga-Vyatka region. Suitable for planting in warmer climates. In the south, young trees require shading.

Self-fertility and the need for pollinators

The variety is self-fertile, but other pear trees can be planted nearby to improve the taste of the fruit. The most successful pollinators are Nika, Krasulya, Severyanka. Planting nearby apple trees also helps attract bees to the garden.

Landing

The best conditions for the Rainbow pear are created in regions with a mild climate. In colder areas, it is necessary to choose areas for planting on the southern slopes, sheltered from the wind. Young trees will feel good here. The optimal period for planting is autumn, from mid-September or closer to October. In the northern regions, you can postpone these activities in the spring, taking care of abundant watering.

For the preparation of planting holes, the location of groundwater is of great importance. Their close occurrence can lead to the fact that the trees will hurt, the roots will rot, and over time, constant waterlogging will lead to the death of the plant. An elevation along the fence or hedge, the wall of the house, is well suited.

A well for a pear is made with a diameter of 70-80 cm, the depth is enough up to 0.5 m. Excess soil is removed, mixed with organic matter - compost or humus in equal proportions. Strongly acidified soil will have to be flavored with lime, a small admixture of wood ash will also be useful. Having laid mineral fertilizers, you can provide a young tree with nutrition for 3-4 years after planting. The resulting mixture is poured into the well for 3/4 of the volume, and then spilled with water.

In the early years, the plant will need support. It is installed in the hole. For planting, two-year-old seedlings with buds on the shoots will be the best choice. They are not deepened too much, the root collar should protrude above the edge of the pit. Then the remnants of the prepared soil mixture are laid inside, everything is compacted, plentifully watered with water.

In order for the pears to be tasty and of high quality, and the yields to be consistently high, you need to responsibly approach the planting of a fruit tree. When planting a pear, you need to take into account many factors: correctly determine the timing, choose the right place, pay attention to the preparation of the planting pit.
Pear grafting is a simple and exciting procedure, but it requires accuracy and adherence to a number of rules. First of all, you need to take care of the selection and procurement of inoculation material, deal with the timing and methods of vaccination. An important point is also the choice of the rootstock, on the quality of which the result of the entire event and future fruiting will directly depend.

Growing and care

Pear Rainbow is a rather unpretentious plant that easily tolerates irregular watering or a small amount of sunlight. Sprinkler irrigation is best suited for watering this variety. It is used weekly throughout the season. The rest of the time, the soil in the area of the trunk circle is mulched. And it will also be useful to have abundant moisture 3-4 times per season, with a special shallow groove digging along its contour, where 30-40 liters of water are poured.

Grooming should also include pruning. In the first 3 years, it is required to form the crown. In the future, this will be a sanitary measure aimed at removing dried branches. Fertilizing in moderation can be applied as early as 2-3 years after planting. Before this, the trunk circle is loosened, and then moistened with liquid solutions containing potassium and phosphorus. The source of nitrogen in the fall will be compost, laid on top of the roots in a thick layer.

In order for a pear to grow correctly and give high yields, its branches must be cut off in time. Pruning can be done in both spring and fall. Depending on the age of the tree and the goals set, pruning can be: sanitary, thinning, shaping, stimulating, rejuvenating.
Feeding pears is a must-have procedure that cannot be ignored. Experienced gardeners recommend applying the first fertilizers two years after planting the tree. The process is divided into 3 main stages, which are determined by the timing of ripening, flowering and fruiting of the pear.
There are two ways to grow a pear seedling - vegetative and by seed. The first method is the most common, including propagation by cuttings, air layers, seedling buds. Seeds are grown less often, since in order to get a bountiful harvest with good taste of the fruit, the seedling will need to be grafted.

Disease and pest resistance

Pear trees of this variety are not prone to scab or powdery mildew. But they can be attacked by pests - gall midges. Spraying with chemical insecticides is used against them.

Like any other fruit trees, the pear needs protection from various diseases and pests. When planting a pear on your site, you need to know in advance what diseases you should beware of. To successfully carry out the struggle, it is necessary first to correctly identify the cause of the problem. It is important to distinguish signs of disease from manifestations of the presence of insects, mites, caterpillars and other types of pests.

Resistance to soil and climatic conditions

The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness; trees do not need shelter. Plants tolerate heat and drought moderately. It is best to provide additional watering during such periods to prevent crushing of the fruit. It is not sensitive to the nutritional value of the soil, it grows well on almost any soil.

Review overview

Despite its recent inclusion in official registries, the Rainbow pear is well known to many gardeners. She has practically no flaws. The disadvantages of summer residents include only a weak keeping quality of fruits, they are not intended for long-term storage. For transportation and sale, pears have to be removed early, allowing them to ripen in boxes.

Otherwise, the trees of this variety have many advantages. They are not prone to thickening of the crown, which greatly simplifies maintenance. Gardeners are also quite happy with the yield, they note that it does not decrease with a deterioration in root nutrition. In addition, the variety is well protected from most diseases, and seasonal whitewashing of the trunk helps prevent pest attacks.
