Choosing a pear look for planting on a personal plot, summer residents prefer summer varieties with mouth-watering fruits. These include the Carmen summer table pear, which is most fertile when grown in central Russia.

Breeding history

This pear variety was developed by a group of domestic scientists-breeders of the All-Russian Research Institute of Genetics and Breeding of Fruit Plants named after V.I. I.V. Michurin in 1992. To create a variety, two species were crossed - Williams red and Daughter of Blankova. The fruit crop has not yet been entered into the State Register, since it is being tested. It is recommended for growing pears in different climatic zones, but the variety is still popular only in the Central Black Earth Region.

Description of the variety

Carmen is a fast-growing tree, the height of which does not exceed 5 m. The fruit tree is characterized by a narrow-pyramidal and compact crown with an average leafiness of greenish-reddish leaves with a pronounced sheen, strong branches extending from the trunk at an acute angle, and a brown-brown color of the bark. Conical pear buds grow, clinging to the shoot. The lifespan of the Carmen fruit tree is 25-50 years.

Fruit characteristics

Pear Carmen belongs to the medium-fruit category. By providing proper tree care, pears weighing 200 grams can be grown. The shape of the fruit is correct, short pear-shaped. Ripe fruits attract attention with an unusual color - at the stage of removable maturity, pears are covered with a burgundy color, and in a state of consumer ripeness, they are brownish-red. The skin of the fruit is dry, of medium density, with a slight sheen and roughness. On the surface of the fetus, subcutaneous points of a light color are clearly expressed. Fruits keep on thickened and short stalks without crumbling.

Pears can easily be transported and can be stored under the right conditions for up to 100 days. The purpose of the fruits is universal - they are eaten fresh, used in cooking, processed into compotes, marmalades, jams, and can also be preserved in slices.

Taste qualities

The fruit tastes excellent. Creamy white flesh is fleshy, semi-oily, moderately dense and quite juicy. The taste is sour-sweet without the slightest astringency. The aroma of the fruit is not pronounced, but very pleasant.

Ripening and fruiting

Pear belongs to summer varieties. Yields a fruit tree in the 5th year after planting. Fruiting in the culture is regular. You can taste the first juicy pears in mid-August. The tree's peak fruiting occurs in the second half of August - early September.

Ripening of pears begins in the second half of summer and lasts until mid-autumn. To keep the pears fresh and tasty until winter, harvesting takes into account the characteristics of the variety, the ripening time and the weather conditions in the region.

Yield

The variety is characterized by average yield indicators.Correct agricultural practices and favorable weather conditions are a guarantee of a good harvest. On average, up to 30 kg of sweet and juicy fruits can be removed from one tree during the fruiting period.

Self-fertility and the need for pollinators

The pear is partially self-fertile, therefore, the yield can be increased by planting donor trees in one area, observing the alternation. The best pollinating trees, the flowering times of which coincide with the Carmen pear, are: Conference and Williams summer.

Landing

Planting a pear seedling can be carried out both in spring and autumn. For spring planting, it is better to choose the end of April - the beginning of May, when the air and soil are well warmed up. When planning to plant a tree in the fall, it is better to do this at the end of October - 3 weeks before possible frost. Since the tree is compact, there is no need to keep long distances. More than 1000 seedlings can be placed on 1 hectare.

In order for the pears to be tasty and of high quality, and the yields to be consistently high, you need to responsibly approach the planting of a fruit tree. When planting a pear, you need to take into account many factors: correctly determine the timing, choose the right place, pay attention to the preparation of the planting pit.
Pear grafting is a simple and exciting procedure, but it requires accuracy and adherence to a number of rules. First of all, you need to take care of the selection and procurement of inoculation material, deal with the timing and methods of vaccination. An important point is also the choice of the rootstock, on the quality of which the result of the entire event and future fruiting will directly depend.

Growing and care

The fruit tree does not require special and complex care, but it grows productively only on high-quality soils. The site is recommended to choose a clean, level, well-lit and not shaded by buildings or fences. The tree loves soil that is drained, fertilized, moisture and breathable. Experienced summer residents recommend planting pears in black earth, sod-podzolic or loamy soil. In addition, it is worth paying attention to the depth of passage of groundwater, since the tree does not like excess and stagnant moisture.

Fruit crop care consists of a number of activities: watering, feeding, sanitary pruning of branches, crown formation, winter insulation (mulching and winding), protection from rodents, as well as the prevention of viruses and insect infestations.

In order for a pear to grow correctly and give high yields, its branches must be cut off in time. Pruning can be done in both spring and fall. Depending on the age of the tree and the goals set, pruning can be: sanitary, thinning, shaping, stimulating, rejuvenating.
Feeding pears is a must-have procedure that cannot be ignored. Experienced gardeners recommend applying the first fertilizers two years after planting the tree. The process is divided into 3 main stages, which are determined by the timing of ripening, flowering and fruiting of the pear.
There are two ways to grow a pear seedling - vegetative and by seed. The first method is the most common, including propagation by cuttings, air layers, seedling buds. Seeds are grown less often, since in order to get a bountiful harvest with good taste of the fruit, the seedling will need to be grafted.

Disease and pest resistance

The tree's immunity allows it to resist a number of diseases, in particular, scab and septoria. Treatments with special preparations - insecticides - can protect against pear mites, flower beetles and moths. In addition, the pear is very attractive to mice and hares, which can be protected from the trunk by using coniferous branches.

Like any other fruit trees, the pear needs protection from various diseases and pests. When planting a pear on your site, you need to know in advance what diseases you should beware of.To successfully carry out the struggle, it is necessary first to correctly identify the cause of the problem. It is important to distinguish signs of disease from manifestations of the presence of insects, mites, caterpillars and other types of pests.

Resistance to soil and climatic conditions

The pear quickly adapts to the climatic features of the growing region and temperature extremes. The frost resistance of the variety is moderate, but the tree tolerates short drought, heat and shade perfectly.

Review overview

Pear Carmen is popular among summer residents living in central Russia. This is due to the fact that the tree quickly gets used to the climate and soil, gives abundant harvests and is easy to transport. Many housewives are captivated by the incredible taste of the fruit, as well as their universal purpose.
