The Voevoda grape (aka Valery Voevoda) is a very pretentious variety in name. However, we must carefully consider how these expectations correspond to reality. Both the specificity of cultivation and the characteristics of the fruit deserve attention.

Breeding history

The main developer of the variety is GM Litvinov, a resident of the Russian city of Gukovo. To obtain the culture, the varietal material of Cardinal and Talisman was used. Official permission for its cultivation for practical purposes was given in 2010. The work of the breeder was very difficult and took a long time. The aim of the work was to obtain high yields and increase endurance.

Description

Ripening period

Culture belongs to the early middle category. You can expect to receive fruits 130-150 days after planting. Therefore, it is possible to forestall the onset of early autumn frosts and to harvest successfully.

Bunches

The shape of a cone is typical for bunches. The brushes are elongated. The fruits are concentrated in them with medium density. The weight of each such group can vary from 0.4 to 1 kg. Peeling is completely out of the question.

Berries

The surface of the grapes has a rich red color. Under the skin is a fleshy flesh that is praised for its juiciness. The fruits themselves are round. Their mass averages 17-18 g, that is, the spread in size and mass is really small. But large grapes prevail.

Taste

Tasters pay attention to the presence of light nutmeg notes. The sugar content is 176 g per 1 dm3. Acidity - 5 g per 1 dm3. This allows a very attractive mouthfeel to be achieved. What is important, even novice farmers can raise the Voevoda.

Yield

The grapes of this variety are distinguished by rapid, strong shoot growth. Therefore, he will soon be ready to supply people with the maximum number of fruits. It is known that with good care, 1 bunch pulls 0.6-0.8 kg. Under ideal conditions, the mass of the brushes is even higher. It must be taken into account that the youngest bushes give inexpressive results, and only in adulthood do they reach optimal conditions.

The choice of planting material
Experienced gardeners recommend that beginners take cuttings and seedlings from those who made them from their vines and are professionally engaged in the production of such material.
You can evaluate the quality by cutting off a small amount of bark. When growing a bush from a cuttings and observing the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 90%, the high quality of the plant is practically guaranteed. It is possible to control the development of grapes at all stages.
Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 100%. The seedlings must be healthy. Pay attention to the absence of blisters, growths, or other signs of disease.

Growing features

Landing

It is best to plant a voivode on black soil. It is advisable to avoid acidic or salty areas. Illumination and draft protection are critical. With the correct selection of these parameters, you can count on a bountiful harvest. Crushed stone, pebbles or broken bricks are placed in the holes. Landing is possible both in spring and autumn.

Landing features
In order for the vine to give a signal harvest after 3 years, it is necessary to take into account many factors - from the type of soil on the site to the nearby plants.

Pollination

The bisexual flowers of the Voevoda themselves pollinate each other. However, this will normally only happen in a well-lit area. Excessive windiness is also contraindicated. Under such conditions, it can be expected that additional planting of other grape varieties will not be needed. It is not necessary to artificially attract pollinators.

Pruning

Basic information about her:

  • the best moment is September and October;

  • it is necessary to wait until the end of the leaf fall;

  • it is also necessary to get ahead of the first frosts;

  • spring pruning should be avoided whenever possible.

Pruning is one of the main grape care procedures. Depending on the purpose of pruning and the type of plant, the appropriate type of formation is selected.
Irrigation schemes
In order for the berries to be large and juicy, it is necessary to organize full watering and feeding. All standards must be adjusted for weather conditions and the rate of evaporation of the liquid.
With a frequent watering scheme, it is recommended to moisturize once every two weeks (that is, twice a month during flowering and the appearance of berries) so that the earth is saturated 50 cm deep so that the plant does not switch to superficial (dew) roots. This amount can be reduced by mulching the crop with straw.
With a rare irrigation scheme, choosing the age and maturation of the grapes, you can use the standards presented in the table in another article.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

There is no exact data on the Warlord's resistance to cold. This topic is yet to be explored further. Experienced gardeners advise covering plants both at a young and mature age. The branches must be bent to the ground. There, after fastening with brackets, they are covered:

  • soil;

  • sawdust;

  • specialized materials.

Shelter for the winter is a very important step for the preservation of many grape varieties after wintering.

Diseases and pests

The voivode tolerates contacts with dangerous microorganisms well. An important preventive measure is fungicide treatment. Cracking is unlikely. The danger of being hit by wasps is zero. Fungicides must be selected very carefully, taking into account their mandatory change to prevent addiction.

Storage

The berries of the Voevoda can remain on the vine for a long time without losing their taste. At the same time, they will not crack and rot, even if the air humidity is high. Like other table varieties, they have the main purpose of being eaten as soon as possible. Even if it is necessary to store it for a day or more, it is necessary to place the fruits in the refrigerator. Recycling is also possible.

Review overview

The gardeners' assessments are as follows:

  • the plant tolerates rather harsh seasons well;

  • The voivode gives a decent harvest in a short time;

  • there is no need to count on early ripening;

  • overload on this culture is unacceptable;

  • young bushes give 1 inflorescence per shoot;

  • in some cases, wasp damage is still possible.
