The Baikonur grape is a relatively young, early-growing table variety. In a short time it gained popularity among winegrowers. The variety is characterized by high yield, decorative beauty and excellent taste of large fruits. Baikonur is equally successfully grown on private plots and industrial vineyards in many regions of Russia.

Breeding history

The variety has existed since 2012 thanks to the efforts of the enthusiastic breeder Pavlovsky E.G. The hybrid appeared as a cross between two popular grape varieties - pollination of the Talisman with pollen of the Beauty. Another variety name is B-9-1. The donors gave the vine the best qualities. The talisman grows almost throughout the territory of Russia, since it is capable of ripening even in a short summer and in case of weather incidents. It gained popularity due to its pleasant taste and large grapes. The parent variety Krasotka is distinguished by its excellent presentation, its fruits tolerate transportation well over any distance.

Description

Vigorous grapes with powerful shoots give high yields. It can propagate by cuttings as a rooted plant or by grafting onto other bushes. Already from a 3-year-old bush, strong shoots emerge, which can grow up to 4 meters in length. The bush has high decorative characteristics - a lush foliage of a deep green color.

Ripening period

The early term is 105-115 days after the growing season.

Bunches

Baikonur produces lush clusters of medium density and friability. The shape is cylindro-conical or conical, the weight is within 500-1000 g. The weight depends on the time of the appearance of the bunches, the first ones weigh up to 500 g, and the later ones - about 1 kg.

Berries

The fruits are characterized by a dark purple color with a dense skin. The shape is elongated, nipple, the weight of each grape is about 11.4 g. The berries are covered with a thin waxy layer of dark color. Inside there are up to 3 bones, which are not always easy to separate.

Taste

The pulp is firm, with a harmonious taste. Crunchy when biting through. The sugar content of the juice is within 20%. Fruity aroma in the absence of the typical Muscat aftertaste. Slight acidity, but its level is enough to classify Baikonur as a universal variety.

Yield

The yield is considered high. The first berries ripen 3.5 months after bud break, which allows you to count on a harvest with the onset of August, and sometimes even at the end of July. Fruit ripening is stretched until the arrival of autumn. Usually there are many bunches, their total mass requires a garter of grapes on very strong trellises. Ripe berries remain on the bushes for a long time, without forcing them to urgent harvesting, without losing their taste and marketability.

The choice of planting material
Experienced gardeners recommend that beginners take cuttings and seedlings from those who made them from their vines and are professionally engaged in the production of such material.
You can evaluate the quality by cutting off a small amount of bark. When growing a bush from a cuttings and observing the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 90%, the high quality of the plant is practically guaranteed. It is possible to control the development of grapes at all stages.
Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 100%. The seedlings must be healthy. Pay attention to the absence of blisters, growths, or other signs of disease.

Growing features

Planting and caring for Baikonur grapes are identical to manipulations with other representatives of this species. The only peculiarities are that the culture grows very powerful.

Landing

Baikonur needs to grow in a sunny place, protected from chilly winds. Optimally, this should be the south-western side in the garden, an area behind spreading trees, a wall of any high building. Any soil is suitable, just not too swampy, with good air permeability and fertility, away from groundwater. Clayy soils require modification with peat and sand. In any soil, organic matter is introduced in large quantities.

Planting time is spring and autumn. In the planting pit, a 20 cm drainage layer is installed. The pit is dug at least 60 cm deep in the southern edges and 20 cm deeper in the regions located to the north. Deeper planting holes are prepared in arid places. The planting technique is standard; 2-3 buds remain above the ground.

The mighty bushes of Baikonur need a distance between the bushes. It should be 3 meters or more. The hybrid variety propagates well by cuttings. In the south and in the climate of the middle zone, they practice the cultivation of seedlings from cuttings and the implementation of their direct planting in early spring in the open ground.

Landing features
In order for the vine to give a signal harvest after 3 years, it is necessary to take into account many factors - from the type of soil on the site to the nearby plants.

Pollination

The flowers of the Baikonur variety are bisexual; there is no need for an additional pollinator.

Pruning

Medium, short. The Baikonur variety needs to be normalized. Qualified pruning is carried out annually, contributing to the correct formation and rationing of bunches on the bushes.

Pruning is one of the main grape care procedures. Depending on the purpose of pruning and the type of plant, the appropriate type of formation is selected.

Watering

During and after planting, the culture requires abundant watering. It is advisable to install an irrigation pipe in order to deliver water directly to the root zone in the first couple of years. Baikonur needs intensive watering, especially in dry times and at the stage of fruit loading. Watering is stopped 21 days before the first harvest, but in hot summer conditions, weak watering may continue. Fruits of this variety are not in danger of cracking.

Irrigation schemes
In order for the berries to be large and juicy, it is necessary to organize full watering and feeding. All standards must be adjusted for weather conditions and the rate of evaporation of the liquid.
With a frequent watering scheme, it is recommended to moisturize once every two weeks (that is, twice a month during flowering and the appearance of berries) so that the earth is saturated 50 cm deep so that the plant does not switch to superficial (dew) roots. This amount can be reduced by mulching the crop with straw.
With a rare irrigation scheme, choosing the age and maturation of the grapes, you can use the standards presented in the table in another article.

Top dressing

A mandatory measure is annual feeding. In the spring, humus and superphosphate are poured into the holes dug near the bush. In the summer, ash is introduced into the area around the cluster. After flowering, foliar dressing is carried out with fertilizer complexes.

The amount of fertilizer applied to the bottom of the pit can be slightly exceeded, especially when it comes to wood ash. When planting, the roots of the seedling should remain unfertilized in the soil.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

Calmly tolerates frosts down to -23 ° С. Vineyards do not need shelter for the winter only in the most southern regions. Although there, shelter is not difficult.Burying vines in the ground is applicable only in the northern regions, for example, in the Leningrad region and nearby latitudes.

Shelter for the winter is a very important step for the preservation of many grape varieties after wintering.

Diseases and pests

Shows resistance to fungal diseases and damage by wasps. At the moment, the variety is poorly understood regarding its incidence. There are likely to be surprises from Baikonur in some years and under different conditions.

Storage

The berries are well stored and show good transportability. Baikonur grapes are easily transported over considerable distances.

Review overview

There is a great demand for the seedlings of Baikonur, since the variety is high-yielding, and the berries themselves are appetizing and tasty. In addition to fresh consumption, berries are ideal for winemaking due to their high sugar content and certain acidity.

The presentation of the varietal grapes arouses the interest of both amateur gardeners and those who grow bunches for commercial purposes.

At the present time, the variety is poorly studied. While it is impossible to give him a full and detailed description. According to the reviews of those who have tasted the Baikonur grapes, the berries are mainly delightful with their taste. There are no clarifications on significant shortcomings yet.

The cultivation of this grape variety is not difficult in comparison with any varietal grape, and most of the private farmers with basic gardening experience succeed.
