Breeding new varieties and hybrids of grapes, breeders improve the taste and production and biological characteristics so much that the result is superior in many respects to the parent plant species. Such an example can be seen when considering a hybrid of Laura grapes. In the modern world, the name Flora is more common. It should be remembered that these are names of the same variety.

Breeding history

This hybrid of a fruit plant was obtained by combining Muscat de Saint-Valier varieties with a mixture of pollen from Central Asian varieties (Muscat Hamburg, Husayne) and Koroleva Tairovskaya. The employees of the Odessa IV&V them. V. E Tairova. The grapes bred in this way have acquired excellent characteristics - high yields, increased resistance to gray rot, large fruit size and resistance to peas.

Geography of distribution

Laura grapes are widespread not only in our country, but also abroad. Farmers and gardeners from all over the world breed this hybrid on their plots and plantations. The variety, despite the remoteness of its breeding (about 20 years ago), has not lost its popularity.

Description

Flora is a white berry variety. The bushes of the table form of Flora grapes are medium-sized, the ripening dates are early, the flowers are female, the berries and clusters are large, of excellent presentation.

Ripening period

As mentioned above, the grapes are early ripe. On average, the ripening period is from 110 to 115 days.

Bunches

The brushes are large, not very dense. The weight of a bunch, subject to all the rules of agrotechnical measures, is more than 1 kg. Berries ripen on bunches evenly, have the same size (bunch length is 35-40 cm).

Berries

Laura's berries are oval or cylindrical, the color is light green. The grapes are covered with a white, thin layer of waxy coating - pruin. This protects them from the development of rot, cracking and other damage. The mass of one berry is 6-8 grams, and with good care it reaches 12 g. The pulp is juicy and dense, crispy, there are bones.

Taste

The harmonious and multifaceted taste inherited from the parent varieties makes the grapes attractive for cultivation in the garden. Muscat notes give an additional flavor to the fruit. Laura accumulates sugar well (its content in berries is from 20%, while acids are 6-8 g / l).

Yield

Flora is a high-yielding hybrid variety. Even in times unfavorable for the development of fruits, it shows an excellent result. From all over the bush 60-80% of the shoots bear fruit.

The choice of planting material
Experienced gardeners recommend that beginners take cuttings and seedlings from those who made them from their vines and are professionally engaged in the production of such material.
You can evaluate the quality by cutting off a small amount of bark. When growing a bush from a cuttings and observing the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 90%, the high quality of the plant is practically guaranteed. It is possible to control the development of grapes at all stages.
Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 100%. The seedlings must be healthy. Pay attention to the absence of blisters, growths, or other signs of disease.

Growing features

Flora is grown in well-lit areas, on light, fertilized soil. The bush is cut, shaped, covered for the winter. The grapes respond well to watering and feeding, and also needs loosening and mulching.

The variety takes root well and can be grown using a rootstock.

Landing

Usually, planting of seedlings is carried out in the spring, with the establishment of stable temperatures. The soil on the site for planting should be fertile, non-clayey, with a low salt content. Bushes need room for root growth, so on average, the seedlings should be about 1 meter apart from each other.

Landing features
In order for the vine to give a signal harvest after 3 years, it is necessary to take into account many factors - from the type of soil on the site to the nearby plants.

Pollination

The plant has feminine flowers. But there are no problems with pollination if you take care of the presence of grape bushes with bisexual flowers near Laura (always with the same flowering period). The Arcadia grape variety is perfect for these purposes. And you can also carry out the pollination procedure manually. Although such measures are rarely used. If there are suitable varieties on the site, pollination will occur without interference.

Pruning

Pruning of the variety is carried out for 6-9 buds, 40-50 overwintered eyes are left on the bush. A bush is formed taking into account the climate and the possibilities of the variety. Overloading the bush with bunches leads to a deterioration in the taste and appearance of the berries, therefore, about one bunch is left for the shoot. The grapes are cut mainly in the fall.

Pruning is one of the main grape care procedures. Depending on the purpose of pruning and the type of plant, the appropriate type of formation is selected.

Watering

In the southern regions, the main watering begins after the start of shoot growth, in the northern regions - mainly as the berries form and grow. And although the variety is resistant to drought, timely and abundant moisture supply is necessary. Important: the trunk circle in adult grape bushes is not watered. Watering at the root is needed only for young plants of 1-3 years of age. This method is useless for old grapes. To ensure access of water to the roots, about a meter retreat from the plant.

A drainage system can be arranged at the same distance. The square groove is covered with crushed stone (there must be no impurities and dust), the drainage is covered with roofing material or a thick film. Moreover, drainage grooves are dug on both sides of the bush.

Irrigation schemes
In order for the berries to be large and juicy, it is necessary to organize full watering and feeding. All standards must be adjusted for weather conditions and the rate of evaporation of the liquid.
With a frequent watering scheme, it is recommended to moisturize once every two weeks (that is, twice a month during flowering and the appearance of berries) so that the earth is saturated 50 cm deep so that the plant does not switch to superficial (dew) roots. This amount can be reduced by mulching the crop with straw.
With a rare irrigation scheme, choosing the age and maturation of the grapes, you can use the standards presented in the table in another article.

Top dressing

The flora is responsive to both watering and feeding. Potassium-phosphorus fertilizers will not do harm, but you should be careful with nitrogen fertilizers. Organic compounds should not be neglected: ash, manure, compost, herbal infusions give excellent results. An important rule of thumb for organic dressings is to apply them before flowering.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

Resistant to frost up to -23 degrees. In areas with little snow, the bushes are covered. Although some gardeners argue that in the presence of a high snow cover, grapes can do without shelter, it is better not to risk it and provide the bushes with reliable protection (hay or special covering materials that provide oxygen access are suitable for it).

Shelter for the winter is a very important step for the preservation of many grape varieties after wintering.

Diseases and pests

The flora is almost 100% resistant to gray rot, resistance to mildew is developed by 3 points. Powdery can be a problem, but with proper care it can be avoided.About 2 times a year, it makes sense to carry out preventive treatments with special means.

Storage

The bunches are perfectly stored, withstand long-term transportation, and retain their presentation for a long time. The grapes, even when fully ripe on the vine, can hang on the bush for a long time without losing their taste.

Reviews

Most of the people who planted Laura on their site are happy with the performance of the grapes. In addition to its excellent presentation, this market variety has good keeping quality, is not very whimsical to growing conditions and is easy to care for. The berries, according to the observations of gardeners, do not crumble or crack. With proper agricultural technology, the variety gives a stable yield. Laura grapes are in demand among buyers, this allows you to grow it not only for your own use, but also for sale.

Despite the prescription of the variety, Flora is still popular. And, according to many winegrowers, it is the best representative of white-berry grape varieties.
