Growing grapes is a rather laborious task. Every time breeders fight for the best quality and uniqueness of the variety. The Triumph grape variety is a real pride of gardeners. It is distinguished by exquisite taste and characteristics.

Breeding history

The Triumph grape is a table grape. It first appeared in America, and was created by J. Campbell. He crossed two other plant species (Concorde and Muscat Chasselas). With a good pedigree, this hybrid has practically no flaws.

Description

The Triumph grape has the following features.

  • Differs in early ripening, begins to bear fruit in August. The yield will increase with each subsequent year. On average, it can reach 50 t / ha.
  • The variety tolerates frosts down to -26 degrees, but only on condition of proper agricultural technology.
  • The plant has rather large, rounded leaves. In one season, the vine can grow up to 3 meters in length, while forming many stepsons. Due to this volume, such bushes are planted near gazebos or arches.

Ripening period

This culture is remarkable in that it has an early vegetative period. Fruits form and ripen faster than other grape varieties. From the moment the berries ripen to harvest, on average, no more than 105-110 days pass. That is, by August it will be possible to harvest the first fruits.

Bunches

The weight of one brush varies from 550 g to 1 kg. The brush has a conical or cylindro-conical shape. The bunches are large and dense.

It is worth emphasizing that in the first year small clusters ripen, but the next season, when the branches of the vine get stronger, the clusters will gradually increase.

Berries

The Triumph grape is extraordinary due to the fact that it has berries of different shades. For example, berries can be pale green or golden yellow.

The rind has a uniform glossy shade, and it is also thin. The pulp is juicy, the berries are round. The average weight is 3-6 g. Sugar content is 22%, from which the fruits have a sweetish aftertaste.

Taste

The sugar level is quite high, which makes this grape quite sweet. The taste is pleasant, not sour. It is because of this sweetness that this variety is often used in wines. The berries have a labruscan taste.

Yield

One of the most important indicators of any plant is yield. Triumph has excellent indicators in this matter. Berries ripen at any temperature, and one branch can bring up to 2 kg of berries. At least four tassels are formed on a branch.

It is worth remembering that the yield of each bush is a purely individual indicator. It can be very diverse, because each plant develops in its own way. The first year never brings a big harvest.

The choice of planting material
Experienced gardeners recommend that beginners take cuttings and seedlings from those who made them from their vines and are professionally engaged in the production of such material.
You can evaluate the quality by cutting off a small amount of bark. When growing a bush from a cuttings and observing the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 90%, the high quality of the plant is practically guaranteed. It is possible to control the development of grapes at all stages.
Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 100%. The seedlings must be healthy. Pay attention to the absence of blisters, growths, or other signs of disease.

Growing features

This type of grape is very unpretentious. It does not require any special additional care.It is worth taking care of it in the same way as for other varieties.

It is worth choosing the right time for planting a plant. If planted in the spring, then the berries can be harvested in the fall. If planted in the fall, the season will begin next year.

The planting site should be located on the southern side of the site so that the full sun rays fall on the grapes. In low soils, where swamp is possible, seedlings will not take root well.

Landing

The sequence of planting seedlings is quite simple.

  1. It is necessary to prepare a trench, spill the allotted area with water, fertilize.
  2. It is especially important to pay attention to drainage: we pour a layer of rubble of 5 centimeters at the bottom of the hole, no more.
  3. It is worth inspecting the seedling for grafts or damaged roots. We remove the rotten roots, and we must plant the graft so that it rises above the ground.
  4. After planting, the land around should be spilled with warm water, and the place around the trunk should be sprinkled with mulch. If the trunk is too high, then it is necessary to fix the grapes with a support.
Landing features
In order for the vine to give a signal harvest after 3 years, it is necessary to take into account many factors - from the type of soil on the site to the nearby plants.

Pollination

The Triumph grape has flowers of both sexes. Thanks to this, it is not worth resorting to any additional pollination measures.

Pruning

Shoots of this species often grow very quickly. To prevent the culture from growing, you should cut off 4-6 eyes. It is necessary to delete damaged branches as well. In winter, the grapes shed unnecessary branches on their own and become a small bush.

Pruning is one of the main grape care procedures. Depending on the purpose of pruning and the type of plant, the appropriate type of formation is selected.
Irrigation schemes
In order for the berries to be large and juicy, it is necessary to organize full watering and feeding. All standards must be adjusted for weather conditions and the rate of evaporation of the liquid.
With a frequent watering scheme, it is recommended to moisturize once every two weeks (that is, twice a month during flowering and the appearance of berries) so that the earth is saturated 50 cm deep so that the plant does not switch to superficial (dew) roots. This amount can be reduced by mulching the crop with straw.
With a rare irrigation scheme, choosing the age and maturation of the grapes, you can use the standards presented in the table in another article.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

This grape is ideal for harsh winters as it has excellent frost tolerance. But young bushes should be accustomed to frost step by step. To do this, bend them slightly to the ground and cover with a covering material.

Before covering the bushes, you should saturate the soil with useful substances, but in no case should you water it unnecessarily (unless there is a prolonged heat after harvest).

Shelter for the winter is a very important step for the preservation of many grape varieties after wintering.

Diseases and pests

The main disadvantage of this type of grape is the poor tolerance of fungal diseases. The variety is susceptible to mildew and grape aphids. In order for the disease not to "encroach" on the variety, preventive measures should be taken. To do this, you need to spray the vine with special preparations.

Preventive measures can be carried out throughout the season, from early spring until the time when the buds are swollen. It should be sprayed every 14 days or immediately after rain.

Storage

Due to the high sugar content, the grapes are resistant to transport and have a long shelf life.In a dry and cool room, the berries can lie for several months.
