The Tornado grape brings, unlike a real tornado, only favorable experiences. But only informed gardeners can cope with this culture. And it's worth starting, as always, from the origins.

Breeding history

The Tornado variety was created thanks to the efforts of the famous amateur breeder Viktor Loginov. The plant was originally created as an excellent dining culture. So far, it is only at the very beginning of the path, and even its spread beyond the limits of the basic experimental farm is still weak. For the first time, samples of the variety were demonstrated at the 2018 exhibition. There they were highly rated.

Description

Ripening period

Tornado is a typical early to medium grape. It takes 125 to 130 days for its fruits to ripen after planting. The ripeness of the berries should be expected by the end of August. It may take longer only in very unfavorable weather conditions.

Bunches

The Tornado brush has an intermediate shape between the cylinder and the cone. Inside it, the berries are not grouped too tightly. The mass of one bunch can range from 1 to 2 kg. Peeling is practically uncommon. According to some sources, the brushes are of medium density.

Berries

Very large grapes develop on the bush. Their mass is at least 15-17 g, while the main part weighs from 20 to 25 g. In shape, the fruits are similar to an oval. They are colored red and purple. A moderately thick waxy coating is found on the surface; the skin is relatively thick.

Taste

Tornado berries are always fleshy. Their flesh is very juicy. According to tasters, this culture leaves a harmonious taste. It is fully consistent with the appearance of the fruit.

Yield

There is still little reliable information about the collection of fruits. But even the scarce information that exists allows us to evaluate the variety as more productive than its analogues. Each shoot develops 2 bunches. Fruiting even covers the first buds in the vines. This is a very rare achievement even for large collectives of breeders.

The choice of planting material
Experienced gardeners recommend that beginners take cuttings and seedlings from those who made them from their vines and are professionally engaged in the production of such material.
You can evaluate the quality by cutting off a small amount of bark. When growing a bush from a cuttings and observing the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 90%, the high quality of the plant is practically guaranteed. It is possible to control the development of grapes at all stages.
Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 100%. The seedlings must be healthy. Pay attention to the absence of blisters, growths, or other signs of disease.

Growing features

Landing

Since Tornado grapes are distinguished by strong growth, they must be planted with a significant gap between the holes. The aisles are also larger. The high productivity of the variety means that only the most fertile areas have to be selected for it. There is no other information on planting operations. It can be assumed that traditional agrotechnical measures, already tested on other varieties, are suitable for this variety.

Landing features
In order for the vine to give a signal harvest after 3 years, it is necessary to take into account many factors - from the type of soil on the site to the nearby plants.

Pollination

Bisexual culture allows almost no special care for pollination. The exceptions are moments with extremely bad weather. There is no additional need to attract bees.

Pruning

Due to the high activity of growth, formation is necessary. You need to resort to it even on completely healthy, well-bearing plants. All the more important is the removal of the damaged (damaged) parts of the grape bush. Basic pruning precautions are common.

Pruning is one of the main grape care procedures. Depending on the purpose of pruning and the type of plant, the appropriate type of formation is selected.
Irrigation schemes
In order for the berries to be large and juicy, it is necessary to organize full watering and feeding. All standards must be adjusted for weather conditions and the rate of evaporation of the liquid.
With a frequent watering scheme, it is recommended to moisturize once every two weeks (that is, twice a month during flowering and the appearance of berries) so that the earth is saturated 50 cm deep so that the plant does not switch to superficial (dew) roots. This amount can be reduced by mulching the crop with straw.
With a rare irrigation scheme, choosing the age and maturation of the grapes, you can use the standards presented in the table in another article.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

A tornado can survive as cold as -23 degrees. Therefore, covering work is mandatory in any region of Russia. It is impossible to do without them even on the shores of the Black Sea. Before sheltering, the plant is supposed to be bent to the ground. There are no specific guidelines for the choice of covering materials for this particular variety.

Shelter for the winter is a very important step for the preservation of many grape varieties after wintering.

Diseases and pests

There is very little information on diseases and major insect pests. Hazard resistance is above average, according to developers and vendors. But still, it is hardly reasonable to do without minimal precautions, including preventive treatments. It is also recommended to decontaminate garden tools and avoid planting crops that can cause harm.

Storage

Large berries with a juicy pulp, despite their attractive qualities, are very poorly stored. Tornado is a typical table variety and must be frozen at low temperatures to save it for a long time. The alternative is predominantly recycling. However, the bulk of the harvest will still be eaten in a short time.
