The table high-yielding grape variety Prima of Ukraine appeared not so long ago, but has already won the love of gardeners due to its characteristics.

Breeding history

The Prima of Ukraine variety can be considered a novelty, since it was bred in 2013. Vine breeder and collector Vladimir Plyasunov is proud of this variety and considers it his highest achievement. The prima of Ukraine was the result of crossing two other well-known varieties: Nizina and Zolotinka. The author himself believes that the Prima of Ukraine turned out to be so promising not thanks to science, but precisely “intuitively”.

Description

The vine is quite powerful and vigorous. With emerald green leaves and large clusters. The leaves are smooth, without the characteristic pile on the back. This allows them to be used for making stuffed cabbage. When ripe, it emits a characteristic aroma that fills the surrounding space with a sweet scent.

Prima of Ukraine belongs to the types with early maturation. Differs in frost resistance and resistance to various types of diseases and typical pests. The vine produces berries even in stepchildren. Thanks to this, the harvest ripens gradually, the harvest can be carried out until the cold weather.

Ripening period

The cultivar is ultra early. From the appearance of the buds to the full ripening of the berries, 95-100 days pass. Berries also have one interesting feature. If the brush ripens unevenly (due to lack of sun), it can be cut off. The berries ripen already cut, like bananas or peaches. Grapes begin to be harvested in the second decade of July.

Bunches

The variety is characterized by cone-shaped clusters. The berries in the brush are not very thickened, well blown by the wind. They are large, lie in the brush in even rows on strong legs, without crumbling or cracking. The bunch is quite large, the average weight on the main vine (not the stepson) can often reach 1.2-1.5 kg.

Berries

It is by the berries that Prima of Ukraine can be easily distinguished from other varieties. They have a round shape, flattened at both ends. There are two constrictions on the body of the berry, which makes the grapes look like a pumpkin. The skin is thin, golden in color to milky yellow. When consumed, it is not felt. The pulp is pleasant, firm and juicy. The berries are large in size, 10-15 g on average by weight.

Taste

The variety is distinguished by a bright, distinct Muscat tone with a citrus aftertaste. It is considered by connoisseurs to be very rare and interesting.

Yield

Prima of Ukraine belongs to high-yielding varieties. This form, as a hybrid, can give brushes even on stepchildren. After harvesting the main crop, it has time to ripen. Therefore, the berries can be harvested until frost. Stably from one bush, you can get about 30 kg of grapes.

The choice of planting material
Experienced gardeners recommend that beginners take cuttings and seedlings from those who made them from their vines and are professionally engaged in the production of such material.
You can evaluate the quality by cutting off a small amount of bark. When growing a bush from a cuttings and observing the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 90%, the high quality of the plant is practically guaranteed. It is possible to control the development of grapes at all stages.
Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 100%. The seedlings must be healthy.Pay attention to the absence of blisters, growths, or other signs of disease.

Growing features

The variety is quite unpretentious, so even a beginner can handle the cultivation. The prima of Ukraine forgives many mistakes. To achieve a joyful harvest, you should start with the correct planting of the plant.

Landing

It is best to plant a young vine in the spring, but autumn planting is also allowed in southern latitudes. When planting in spring, the pit is prepared in the fall, applying fertilizers to it. During the winter, they reach the optimal concentration, which will not burn the plant roots.

The place is chosen without drafts and as sunny as possible, preferably the south or southeast of the site. The holes are made at a distance of 2 meters from each other, pouring down a mixture of broken brick and expanded clay to ensure good drainage. Then a mixture of fertilizers and fertile soil. When planting, the roots are carefully tamped with earth. Any support can be prepared: arches, trellises, a wall.

Landing features
In order for the vine to give a signal harvest after 3 years, it is necessary to take into account many factors - from the type of soil on the site to the nearby plants.

Pollination

The plant contains flowers of both sexes, so there are no problems with pollination. In this case, pollination can occur unevenly.

Pruning

The variety grows quite vigorously and needs regular pruning every season. Usually, in the process, 7-8 fruit buds are left on the branch. At the same time, there are no more than 35 pieces on a bush, since the clusters are quite heavy, this can overload even an adult plant.

Pruning is one of the main grape care procedures. Depending on the purpose of pruning and the type of plant, the appropriate type of formation is selected.
Irrigation schemes
In order for the berries to be large and juicy, it is necessary to organize full watering and feeding. All standards must be adjusted for weather conditions and the rate of evaporation of the liquid.
With a frequent watering scheme, it is recommended to moisturize once every two weeks (that is, twice a month during flowering and the appearance of berries) so that the earth is saturated 50 cm deep so that the plant does not switch to superficial (dew) roots. This amount can be reduced by mulching the crop with straw.
With a rare irrigation scheme, choosing the age and maturation of the grapes, you can use the standards presented in the table in another article.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

This variety is hardy. Painlessly for fruit buds, it tolerates a drop in temperature to –25 and even briefly to –30 degrees Celsius. But gardeners of central Russia still prefer to grow vines in greenhouses to obtain a consistently high yield.

For the winter, it is better to provide shelter to the branches by cutting them off and placing them in a mixture of peat with sawdust. Top of the grapes are covered with spunbond, spruce branches or even a film. It is important to provide shelter in the event of persistent frost and average daytime temperatures closer to zero degrees. Too early, before the cold snap, the Prima of Ukraine is not covered.

Shelter for the winter is a very important step for the preservation of many grape varieties after wintering.

Diseases and pests

The variety is unique for its resistance to all common diseases of the vine. Not afraid of gray mold at all. It can very rarely capture a bush with mildew and powdery mildew. It is recommended for prophylaxis to periodically spray the bush with spraying (especially in a damp summer). It is important to observe the watering regime for the health and growth of the plant.

Storage

The grapes have good keeping quality and transportability, well preserved. Used for making wine, various dishes. Excellent in its fresh taste.
