A complex hybrid is not surprising only at first glance. In fact, it is difficult to find a dark variety of nutmeg with a pronounced taste with such an early ripening period like Swallow.

Breeding history

The domestic breeder E.G. Pavlovsky managed to create a hybrid Swallow. The Super-Extra and Krasotka varieties became the parent basis. The result is a universal table variety Swallow, excellent in its taste. It also has another name, known to gardeners and breeders as C-3-2.

Description

The variety is considered relatively new. The value of the vine lies in its resistance to unfavorable external conditions, in the ability to give a stable crop of good quality. And most importantly - in the early stages of ripening.

This variety is a table variety. The plant is vigorous, tall, giving clusters almost along its entire length. It has a highly developed root system. There are quite a lot of leaves on the vine, they are light green, serrated with veins.

Ripening period

The swallow rightfully belongs to the very early ripening varieties. After all, the period from the appearance of buds on the vine to the full ripening of the grapes is 95-100 days. And in the south of Russia, ripe bunches can be harvested in mid-July.

Bunches

The Swallow bunch is very beautiful, has an excellent presentation. Has a cylindrical-conical shape. The berries in a bunch are of medium density. No peeling or cracking is observed. The bunch itself in this species is not too large, reaches 600 g.

Berries

The Swallow has rather large oval-shaped berries. Each weighs an average of 9 g. The color is rich - from blue-black to almost black. The skin is very thin, almost imperceptible when biting through, and the flesh is dense, with fleshy walls of the fruit.

Berries are not attacked by wasps, as they do not crack. They are distinguished by very good keeping quality and transportability.

Taste

Swallows berries have a distinctly nutmeg flavor, with hints of black currant. When bitten, firm, slightly crispy, pleasantly refreshing. Connoisseurs have already appreciated this grape as a variety for fresh consumption and for winemaking.

Yield

The variety is characterized by an average yield. Despite the fact that the vine produces many clusters along almost its entire length, each cluster is small to medium in size (400-600 g). The yield from the bush will depend on the number of ovaries that are left for growth and development. On average, up to 15-20 kg are obtained from a bush.

The choice of planting material
Experienced gardeners recommend that beginners take cuttings and seedlings from those who made them from their vines and are professionally engaged in the production of such material.
You can evaluate the quality by cutting off a small amount of bark. When growing a bush from a cuttings and observing the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 90%, the high quality of the plant is practically guaranteed. It is possible to control the development of grapes at all stages.
Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 100%. The seedlings must be healthy. Pay attention to the absence of blisters, growths, or other signs of disease.

Growing features

In general, the variety is undemanding to care for. But in order to get a good harvest, it is important to know some of the nuances of cultivation.

Landing

It is better to plant a plant in the spring (in the southern regions it is possible in the fall). A well-lit place is chosen for the bush.

A pit is prepared for the winter, 10 kg of organic fertilizers (manure) or a mixture of mineral fertilizers are placed there. They should pep well. In the spring, the soil in the hole is mixed, pieces of broken brick are added to the bottom. Fertile soil is mixed with sand and wood ash. The roots must breathe well. The roots of a young plant are set on this mixture. Be sure to immediately prepare supports for tying the vine.

A small hole is made around the landing hole at a distance of 0.5 meters. Subsequently, water is poured into it for watering a young plant.

Landing features
In order for the vine to give a signal harvest after 3 years, it is necessary to take into account many factors - from the type of soil on the site to the nearby plants.

Pollination

The swallow has no problems with pollination and can be successfully grown even in a greenhouse. Each plant has flowers of both sexes.

Pruning

The variety needs regular pruning. It is carried out every season, removing old shoots and vines damaged by the disease. This improves the resistance of the plant, increases the yield.

And they also constantly remove wilted, damaged leaves, they do this throughout the growing season.

It is good to treat the cut of the vine with a solution prepared on the basis of natural red lead (paint) using chalk and the addition of boric acid.

Pruning is one of the main grape care procedures. Depending on the purpose of pruning and the type of plant, the appropriate type of formation is selected.
Irrigation schemes
In order for the berries to be large and juicy, it is necessary to organize full watering and feeding. All standards must be adjusted for weather conditions and the rate of evaporation of the liquid.
With a frequent watering scheme, it is recommended to moisturize once every two weeks (that is, twice a month during flowering and the appearance of berries) so that the earth is saturated 50 cm deep so that the plant does not switch to superficial (dew) roots. This amount can be reduced by mulching the crop with straw.
With a rare irrigation scheme, choosing the age and maturation of the grapes, you can use the standards presented in the table in another article.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

The grapes are conditionally hardy. The vine can withstand frosts down to -23 C, but it needs an obligatory shelter for the winter. You can dig a trench by laying the vine in the ground in the direction of the growth of its shoots and cover it with foil. Alternatively, use non-woven fabric in combination with straw.

Important conditions to be observed when preparing this variety for winter.

  1. Before sheltering, it is good to shed the root system so that the earth is saturated with moisture.

  2. Do not close the swallow too early in warm weather.

  3. It is necessary to wait for stable frosts, approximately –2 ... 3 degrees, and stable dry, frosty weather.

Shelter for the winter is a very important step for the preservation of many grape varieties after wintering.

Diseases and pests

The variety is fairly new, so trials in this area are still ongoing. In general, we can say that the Swallow has good resistance to diseases and pests characteristic of this culture. Ability to withstand diseases at the level of already proven varieties.

Storage

Despite the thin skin, grapes are well stored and transported. Wine is made from it. The variety is also good for harvesting raisins.
