There are grape varieties that are not very well-known, but worthy of attention. Such is the Guna variety, often grown in the middle lane. This hybrid of a blue Latvian variety and a green French variety eventually produces lilac-pink fruits that are very pleasant to the taste. The variety is vigorous, practically not damaged by pests and diseases. It is quite rational to have several bushes of this wonderful variety in your vineyard.

Breeding history

The variety was bred by the talented Latvian breeder P. Sukatniek. It happened in 1959, to obtain a new hybrid, the author crossed the varieties Dvietes Zila and Madeleine Angevin. Dvietes Zila is a local Latvian variety that grows well in the Baltic region, does not have a high yield, there are up to 20 berries in a bunch, but it is adapted to local conditions, the berries are blue. Madeleine Angevin is a French table grape variety, greenish-white berries, with a tan from the sun, was once widespread in the south of Russia and Ukraine.

Geography of distribution

Since the hybrid is northern, it is widespread in the Baltic States, central Russia. It is grown by lovers of non-sheltering culture in the Moscow, Tver, Leningrad regions.

Description

A vigorous early ripening grape variety with red berries. You can collect 6-8 kg from a bush. A multi-purpose variety that can be used to make wine or be eaten. The pulp is sweet with a subtle isabelle tinge. The peel of the berries is dense, the juice is slightly colored. This grape variety has good rootstock compatibility. The ability to withstand frosts down to -25 degrees makes this variety promising even in the middle lane. Due to its tough skin, it has good transportability. The advantages include resistance to mildew and oidium. This grape is often grown as a gazebo.

Ripening period

It belongs to the early, it is grown in a non-sheltered culture in the middle lane. The berries ripen for 90 to 100 days. Depending on the summer, the variety ripens in the Moscow region at the end of August - mid-September.

Bunches

The number of clusters per shoot is 1.5-1.8 on average. Bunches are small, weighing 100-150 grams, medium density. The length of the bunches is up to 15 cm.

Berries

In this variety, the fruits are round or oval in shape, they have a dark pink color. The pulp is a little slimy, when eaten, an isable aroma is felt. The mass of the berry is 4.5-5 grams. Sweet and slightly sour. Due to the peel, they can be stored in the refrigerator for a month, and are well transported.

Taste

The berries are sweet with a sour taste, the taste is a bit like Isabella, because the variety comes from the blue variety Dvietes Zila.

Yield

Depending on the growing conditions from the bush, you can get from 6 to 8, or even 10 kilograms. But for a good harvest, there must be a very deep layer of fertile soil so that the roots have room to develop. You can not bring fresh manure, but rotted manure will give the bush a lot of necessary substances.

The choice of planting material
Experienced gardeners recommend that beginners take cuttings and seedlings from those who made them from their vines and are professionally engaged in the production of such material.
You can evaluate the quality by cutting off a small amount of bark. When growing a bush from a cuttings and observing the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 90%, the high quality of the plant is practically guaranteed. It is possible to control the development of grapes at all stages.
Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 100%. The seedlings must be healthy. Pay attention to the absence of blisters, growths, or other signs of disease.

Growing features

If Guna will be cultivated in the middle lane, you need to approach each stage very carefully. The most important thing is to choose the right place. The slopes facing north will not work, the place should be illuminated by the sun all day. And also heavy, low-lying, clayey soils, former peat bogs are not suitable. This culture needs a comfortable environment.

The bush is planted in the spring so that it has time to take root well. They are planted in a pre-prepared pit, with a drainage device and the introduction of fertilizers and humus. The place should be well lit throughout the day, otherwise the berries may not have enough solar radiation, they will not ripen.

Landing

A hole for a bush is prepared in the fall. It should be at least 60 centimeters deep, and preferably 1 meter. Well drained: shards, bricks or stones are placed on the bottom for drainage. Then a layer of sand, then fertile soil mixed with rotted manure, bring nitroammofosku.

Landing features
In order for the vine to give a signal harvest after 3 years, it is necessary to take into account many factors - from the type of soil on the site to the nearby plants.

Pollination

The flowers of the grapes are exclusively female, it is necessary to take this into account and plant pollinators next to the bushes.

Pruning

In the fall, the bush is pruned, without pruning it will bear fruit poorly. If the variety is planted as an ornamental variety, it does not need to be pruned. Just plant bushes around the gazebo, cut off only weak and diseased branches. When planting on a berry in the fall, remove all shoots less than 1 centimeter in diameter. Leave 3 to 5 buds on the shoot.

Pruning is one of the main grape care procedures. Depending on the purpose of pruning and the type of plant, the appropriate type of formation is selected.
Irrigation schemes
In order for the berries to be large and juicy, it is necessary to organize full watering and feeding. All standards must be adjusted for weather conditions and the rate of evaporation of the liquid.
With a frequent watering scheme, it is recommended to moisturize once every two weeks (that is, twice a month during flowering and the appearance of berries) so that the earth is saturated 50 cm deep so that the plant does not switch to superficial (dew) roots. This amount can be reduced by mulching the crop with straw.
With a rare irrigation scheme, choosing the age and maturation of the grapes, you can use the standards presented in the table in another article.

Top dressing

Grapes as a culture, and Guna in particular, loves rich soil. It requires the introduction of a large amount of fertilizers - well-rotted manure, mineral complexes for grapes.

Nitrogen, which is responsible for the growth of green mass, the growth of shoots, is introduced in the spring in the form of urea or saltpeter. Phosphorus is necessary for the formation of flowers and fruits; superphosphate is added at the beginning of flowering. Potassium accelerates ripening, it is brought in closer to autumn. Copper, boron and zinc are also necessary for the development of the plant; they are added as part of special complexes of microelements.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

In snowy winters, it can hibernate even without shelter. It is also recommended as a gazebo variety, then it is not removed for the winter, and, as a rule, it overwinters perfectly.

Shelter for the winter is a very important step for the preservation of many grape varieties after wintering.

Diseases and pests

The variety is resistant to the main diseases of powdery mildew, powdery mildew, mildew.

Storage

The bunches can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a month.
