Even those who have never seen fruiting bunches of Flamingo grapes will immediately understand from the name that we will be talking about one of its pink varieties. The variety is quite young, but has already won the hearts of many winegrowers.

Breeding history

The Moldovan breeders of the Vierul research and production association worked on the creation of the variety. A variety with an unusual name was the result of crossing Nimrang with Datie de Saint-Valier. In appearance, Flamingo is very similar to Datie, but its agricultural technology is different from that of the parent variety.

Description

Flamingo belongs to the table grape varieties. The bushes are medium-sized, up to 3 m high. The leaves are rounded, with thin veins, there are 3-5 lobes. They are poorly expressed.

The bunches have an excellent presentation. Peas are not typical for Flamingos. If the summer is cold and rainy, the berries often burst and do not ripen.

The bunches are loose, it is necessary to carefully transport them so as not to crush them.

This grape is unpretentious, there are no particular difficulties in caring for it.

Ripening period

Early-medium ripening grapes. The growing season is 130-145 days. When grown in central Russia, the berries may not have time to ripen completely before the onset of cold weather.

Bunches

Clusters of Flamingos are loose, less often of medium density, in the form of a cone, sometimes with wings. The weight of the bunch is within 500-800 g. They have an attractive appearance.

Berries

The variety got its name due to the pink color of the berries. They are of several shades - from pale pink to rich. The longer the bunches of Flamingos are in the sun, the brighter the color of the berries. The grapes are round, slightly elongated, rather large (28 mm by 25 mm). From above they are covered with a light layer of spring. The average weight of grapes is 6-10 g. The sugar content varies in the range of 150-160 g / dm3. Acidity - 7-9 g / dm3.

Taste

Juicy pulp is located under the dense skin. The berry has a simple, harmonious taste. There is no aftertaste.

Yield

Variety with a very high yield. More than half of the shoots bear fruit. Each of them can have up to 20 brushes. It is necessary to avoid overloading the bushes, otherwise the ripening process of the crop will slow down.

The choice of planting material
Experienced gardeners recommend that beginners take cuttings and seedlings from those who made them from their vines and are professionally engaged in the production of such material.
You can evaluate the quality by cutting off a small amount of bark. When growing a bush from a cuttings and observing the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 90%, the high quality of the plant is practically guaranteed. It is possible to control the development of grapes at all stages.
Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 100%. The seedlings must be healthy. Pay attention to the absence of blisters, growths, or other signs of disease.

Growing features

Flamingos prefer sunny, southern or southwestern parts of the site, which are well protected from drafts. Can be grown in a greenhouse. It is preferable to plant near the south side of a house or large shed to avoid wind exposure.

Landing

It is recommended to choose places where groundwater is at a distance of less than one and a half meters. Before planting, the soil is well loosened, weeds get rid of, if necessary, it is neutralized.

Planting can be carried out both in autumn and spring. Pits are prepared in advance.

Landing features
In order for the vine to give a signal harvest after 3 years, it is necessary to take into account many factors - from the type of soil on the site to the nearby plants.

Pollination

Flamingo flowers are functionally feminine. At the same time, their pollination rate is very high.

Pruning

Prune preferably in the fall. When pruning, leave from 8 to 12 eyes. In total, they should remain on the bush from 35 to 45 pieces.

Pruning is one of the main grape care procedures. Depending on the purpose of pruning and the type of plant, the appropriate type of formation is selected.

Watering

Watering as needed, depending on weather conditions, but no more than once a week. The volume of water is 40 liters for each bush. Waterlogging should be avoided, otherwise the grapes will crack.

Top dressing

They are fed every year with complex fertilizers, for example, "Solvent". You can use Azophoska.

Organic fertilizers are applied no more often than once every 3 years.

Irrigation schemes
In order for the berries to be large and juicy, it is necessary to organize full watering and feeding. All standards must be adjusted for weather conditions and the rate of evaporation of the liquid.
With a frequent watering scheme, it is recommended to moisturize once every two weeks (that is, twice a month during flowering and the appearance of berries) so that the earth is saturated 50 cm deep so that the plant does not switch to superficial (dew) roots. This amount can be reduced by mulching the crop with straw.
With a rare irrigation scheme, choosing the age and maturation of the grapes, you can use the standards presented in the table in another article.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

The vine can withstand frosts down to -22 degrees. Due to its good frost resistance, the formation of a bush under a shelter is usually not carried out.

But night frosts in early autumn can be dangerous for Flamingos. They can damage young shoots and grapes.

Shelter for the winter is a very important step for the preservation of many grape varieties after wintering.

Diseases and pests

Flamingos are highly resistant to fungal diseases: gray mold and powdery mildew. Tolerance to mildew is found (3 points).

It is practically not damaged by spider mites. Berries can be damaged by wasps, so it is advisable to place the bunches in tight transparent bags.

Storage

For long-term storage, a number of conditions must be observed: air humidity should be approximately 85-90%, air temperature slightly above zero, without access to light. Best kept hanging.
