The technical varieties of grapes bred in Crimea are rich in a variety of different names. Citron Magaracha occupies an honorable place in this list due to its stable yield and unpretentious care.

The grapes are famous for the fact that you can get excellent wine from it - table and dessert, as well as champagne. It is mainly grown in the southern part of Russia, but the inhabitants of the middle lane also have their own experience in this.

Breeding history

This grape variety was bred in the research institute "Magarach", which is located in the Crimea. The authorship belongs to L. Kireeva, V. Volynkin, Yu. Malchikov, T. Usatov, V. Oleinikov, P. Troshin. Registration in the register of varieties was made in 2002. Citron Magaracha is recommended for the production of wine and champagne.

The main varieties that were used in breeding are Madeleine Anzhevin and Novoukrainsky Early.

Geography of distribution

This type of grape can be found more often in the south of Russia, where the most favorable conditions have been created for it. It is successfully grown in the Krasnodar Territory, the Rostov Region, and the Crimea. But even in the middle lane, gardeners have good results, since it is noted that its frost resistance is quite good, and with proper care and careful attention to the plant, stable yields can be achieved.

Description

Ripening period

The grapes of this variety are classified as medium in terms of ripening. The period is 125-135 days. Therefore, it will be possible to try it at the end of September, it all depends on the weather and the region of cultivation.

Bunches

The bunch is 18 to 22 centimeters long. Most often, in the process of formation, several branches are obtained. Typically, the standard weight of a bunch is about 300-400 grams, but there are instances and weighing 500 grams. The bunch has an elongated conical shape.

Berries

When the berries are fully ripe, they have a yellow or greenish-yellow hue. Oval-ovoid berries have a fleshy-juicy pulp, the weight of one berry reaches 4 grams, the skin is thin, and the bones are present. You can find 3-4 seeds.

Taste

The taste contains pronounced notes of citrus and nutmeg. The sugar content is within 27%, the acidity is 5-7 g / dm³.

Yield

The vine grows very quickly, so the trellises must be prepared immediately. As for the yield, up to 9 kilograms of berries are harvested from an adult bush.

The choice of planting material
Experienced gardeners recommend that beginners take cuttings and seedlings from those who made them from their vines and are professionally engaged in the production of such material.
You can evaluate the quality by cutting off a small amount of bark. When growing a bush from a cuttings and observing the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 90%, the high quality of the plant is practically guaranteed. It is possible to control the development of grapes at all stages.
Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 100%. The seedlings must be healthy. Pay attention to the absence of blisters, growths, or other signs of disease.

Growing features

Landing

For planting, they choose places where there is a lot of sun and there is protection from the winds. The soil is chosen sandy loam, with a neutral level of acidity. If the soil is loamy, you should add peat, ash, humus. Pits should be prepared in advance - two weeks before planting. This is most often done in the fall.If in the spring, then the pits are still prepared in the fall. The distance between the bushes should be about 2 meters. After planting, the seedling is watered and the soil is mulched.

Landing features
In order for the vine to give a signal harvest after 3 years, it is necessary to take into account many factors - from the type of soil on the site to the nearby plants.

Pollination

The flowers are bisexual, so planting a pollinating grape is not necessary. Fruit set is almost 100%, so there are no peas.

Pruning

In addition to the traditional formation of bushes, the vine rationing is also required, since this variety is prone to overloading. If you ignore the rationing process, there is a high risk of getting berries and clusters of lower mass than this variety can ideally give.

For the first year, 2 strong shoots are left, others break off. In the fall, they get rid of their stepchildren.

In the second year, there will already be up to 5 strong shoots, 4 of them are chosen the best.

Sanitary pruning is carried out annually, removing weak and diseased branches.

Pruning is one of the main grape care procedures. Depending on the purpose of pruning and the type of plant, the appropriate type of formation is selected.

Watering

The variety should be watered once a week at first. Further, when the plant grows up and gets stronger, once every two weeks is enough. But you should be guided by the weather. The rains, of course, make their own adjustments.

When inflorescences appear, watering should be stopped, resuming later when the bunches ripen. In this case, a balance should be observed. Citron Magaracha is good for watering, but moderate.

Irrigation schemes
In order for the berries to be large and juicy, it is necessary to organize full watering and feeding. All standards must be adjusted for weather conditions and the rate of evaporation of the liquid.
With a frequent watering scheme, it is recommended to moisturize once every two weeks (that is, twice a month during flowering and the appearance of berries) so that the earth is saturated 50 cm deep so that the plant does not switch to superficial (dew) roots. This amount can be reduced by mulching the crop with straw.
With a rare irrigation scheme, choosing the age and maturation of the grapes, you can use the standards presented in the table in another article.

Top dressing

If fertilizers were laid in the planting pit, then the first 2 years you can not feed the grapes. And then in the spring, manure and wood ash are brought in, mullein is bred in a ratio of 1 to 10.

After flowering, when the ovaries are formed, nitrogen is added, which is diluted in water, and then watered at the root. Potassium and phosphorus are applied three weeks before harvest.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

Citron Magaracha can withstand frosts up to 25 degrees. In the southern regions, he does not need shelter, it is desirable only to protect the vine from the winds. But in the middle lane, it is still better to provide this variety with shelter, remove the vine from the trellises, carefully lay it on the ground, place the covering material on top, fix it well, you can cover it with spruce branches on top.

Shelter for the winter is a very important step for the preservation of many grape varieties after wintering.

Diseases and pests

If the grapes are well looked after and preventive measures are taken, then various troubles can be avoided. Resistance to mildew, oidium, gray rot is one point, to root and leaf phylloxera - three points. In the spring, the bushes are treated with Nitrafen before flowering with fungicides. When the crop is harvested, Strobe and Flint will do.

Storage

After being harvested, the grapes undergo technical processing. Winegrowers note its good preservation. It does not lose its presentation for a long time.

Review overview

Gardeners' reviews vary. Basically, residents of the southern regions manage to successfully grow this variety. In most cases, the harvests are pleasing. Those who live in the middle lane sometimes complain that, depending on the weather conditions, Citron Magaracha does not always have time to ripen before the onset of cold weather, which means that the berries do not have the taste that is inherent in this variety.
