Grape crops are becoming more widespread every year, not only on an industrial scale. Gardeners are no longer afraid of whimsicality and capriciousness. Modern varieties, for example, Bohemia, are in demand among gardeners in different countries.

Breeding history

The Bohemian variety belongs to canteens, it was bred by Ukrainian breeders. The hybrid grape was created from the Malva and Millennium varieties. Thanks to the combination of the best features of these species, Bohemia has become very popular.

Description

Visual characteristics of Bohemia grapes:

  • growth is not particularly tall, about 2 meters or slightly higher;

  • due to the bisexual flowering, the yield is high;

  • five-lobed foliage has an oval shape;

  • there are white stripes on the outside of the sheet, inside there is a wax-like plaque, there are roughness;

  • leaf color - dark green;

  • vines are dense and powerful;

  • flowering is white, whiskers are located on the shoots in large quantities.

Ripening period

The Bohemian variety is ranked among the early ripening varieties. The fruiting period begins in early August. The fruits develop most actively on two-year-old bushes. The growing season lasts approximately 110-115 days from the beginning of flowering.

Bunches

Grape bunches of the Bohemian variety weigh 400-700 g. The shape of the bunches is cylindrical, at the base they are much wider than at the end.

Berries

The fruits of the variety have an average size, weight is about 12-14 g. The length of the berry does not exceed 2 cm. The grapes have a dense skin of an opaque type. The surface has an indistinct waxy coating.

Taste

The sweetness of the fruit is quite pronounced, although in mature plants there is a slight hint of sourness. The piquant taste is largely due to the large amount of ascorbic acid. The berries are distinguished by an exquisite nutmeg aroma.

Yield

This variety is distinguished by a high level of yield, but it is required to take care of the grapes, to provide a small load of the bushes. If you overload the bush, the flavor of the berries may deteriorate.

The choice of planting material
Experienced gardeners recommend that beginners take cuttings and seedlings from those who made them from their vines and are professionally engaged in the production of such material.
You can evaluate the quality by cutting off a small amount of bark. When growing a bush from a cuttings and observing the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 90%, the high quality of the plant is practically guaranteed. It is possible to control the development of grapes at all stages.
Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 100%. The seedlings must be healthy. Pay attention to the absence of blisters, growths, or other signs of disease.

Growing features

There is nothing particularly difficult in caring for Bohemia, but there are a number of activities that must be performed. First of all, high-quality hydration is important. Water the grapes in the morning or evening hours, when the sun is low. Watering under the scorching sun leads to disease and even death of the plant. A bush requires about 25 liters of water, the frequency of watering is 2 times a month.

Don't forget about feeding, this is another important part of grooming. It is from feeding that the yield and quality of berries depend. The first fertilizers are applied under a three-year-old plant. In the spring, a nutrient medium is required, which is provided by humus.In early summer, it is worth feeding the plant with potassium nitrate to enhance growth. Two weeks before harvest, the plant is fertilized with ammonium nitrate. In the middle of autumn, the roots require organic matter and a mineral complex - humus and superphosphates.

Landing

To begin with, a plot is selected, it can be either well-lit or semi-dark, but at the latter, the crop will ripen more slowly. The optimal nutrient soil is black soil, loam with a low concentration of acidity. Lime is used to lower the acidity. Saplings should not be less than a meter, developed roots are required. Check for the presence of vaccination on the root neck and the absence of any lesions, unhealthy areas.

Landing Algorithm:

  • in the fall, a hole of 60 by 80 cm is formed, crushed stone, humus, peat are introduced into it;

  • a slide is created on top of the drainage into which the seedling is rooted;

  • the roots are distributed and covered with fertile soil;

  • a support is dug in next to the hole;

  • the distance between the seedlings is 3 m.

Landing features
In order for the vine to give a signal harvest after 3 years, it is necessary to take into account many factors - from the type of soil on the site to the nearby plants.

Pollination

Flowers of the Bohemia variety are bisexual, so pollination takes place in a standard mode. The bush blooms in the first half of summer, the berries do not thicken due to the double cavity.

Pruning

Usually, pruning is recommended at the end of flowering. In the process, shoots are removed that have got out of the common bush and are obviously sticking out. Most of them are cut, leaving only shoots with less than 8 eyes. It is imperative to remove all dried and affected areas, they interfere with the healthy development of the bush.

Pruning is one of the main grape care procedures. Depending on the purpose of pruning and the type of plant, the appropriate type of formation is selected.
Irrigation schemes
In order for the berries to be large and juicy, it is necessary to organize full watering and feeding. All standards must be adjusted for weather conditions and the rate of evaporation of the liquid.
With a frequent irrigation scheme, it is recommended to moisturize once every two weeks (that is, twice a month during flowering and the appearance of berries) so that the earth is saturated 50 cm deep so that the plant does not switch to superficial (dew) roots. This amount can be reduced by mulching the crop with straw.
With a rare irrigation scheme, having chosen the age and ripening period of the grapes, you can use the standards presented in the table in another article.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

The variety is frost-resistant, it tolerates temperatures down to -22 degrees well. If the winters are harsher, shelter is worth taking care of. But young seedlings up to 3 years of age need insulation in any case. First years grow tied up, in the fall you need to detach them, put them on spruce branches and cover them with corrugated cardboard, film. The snow will serve as another layer of cover.

It is important that there are holes for air circulation. In the spring, the shelter is not removed immediately, but only after the onset of heat. In severely frosty winters, adult plants are bent to the ground, arched and covered.

Shelter for the winter is a very important step for the preservation of many grape varieties after wintering.

Diseases and pests

This variety is considered to be highly disease resistant. Dangerous ailments:

  • fruit rot - the infusion of onion husks helps;

  • olive spot - copper sulfate helps;

  • powdery mildew - Bordeaux liquid helps.

As for pests, ticks and fleas are most dangerous. You can get rid of the latter with a manganese solution, and cayenne pepper infusion works well against ticks.

Storage

It is better to harvest this variety using pruning shears, so the bunches remain intact and stored better.Optimally, the fruits are stored in a cool, dark place. It is transported quite well, the marketability of the variety is high.
