The Bianca grape is undoubtedly a gem among the technical varieties. It is characterized by high yields and undemanding care. With a minimum of labor costs, it is successfully used to create a high-quality assortment of alcoholic beverages.

Breeding history

Bianca is a breeding variety of Hungarian origin. The first mention of this species appeared in 1963. The additional name of this variety is Egri chillagok 40. The hybrid culture is obtained by crossing two popular grape varieties - Villard blanc and Chasselas bouvier. Bushes with dense shoots show moderate growth.

Geography of distribution

The most suitable climate for growing Bianchi is the territory of the southern regions of Ukraine, Belarus and the Russian Federation. In the south, Bianca is grown without the use of shelters, using for the preparation of intoxicating drinks. The grape harvest is no worse in the central regions of the same countries, but not without some efforts, contributing to the better adaptability of the thermophilic culture due to colder climatic conditions.

Description

Tall bushes of this variety are very rare. Usually they are shortened. Bianchi vine is well developed, dense, withstands a good harvest. Rounded leaf plates with 5 deep green lobes. The bushes look very decorative and are often used in landscaping plots.

Ripening period

The variety is characterized by early ripening. The collection of bunches begins after 130 days from the growing season, that is, from the end of July and the beginning of August in the regions of the southern location, at the height of August - in the central zone.

Bunches

Medium-dense, attractive, small, cylindrical clusters. On average, one brush weighs 90-120 g, but there are also more weighty specimens. So, painstaking care of plantings increases this figure to 0.5 kg, but this requires significant costs and efforts.

Berries

Fruits are medium in size, weighing 1.5-2 g. Round or slightly oval in shape. Under the thin but dense skin of a yellow-green color, juicy flesh. As the fruits ripen, they take on a shade of amber.

Taste

The taste is harmonious, full-bodied, full-bodied, with a pronounced almond aftertaste. The taste can also have a subtle honey-floral hue. The pulp is fleshy and juicy, even watery, there are up to 3 small soft bones inside. The sugar content of the juice is 20-28% with an acidity of 7-9 g / l. The crop harvested a couple of weeks later is distinguished by lower acidity - at the level of 3-5%.

Yield

The fruiting rate is 90-100%. Timely care and favorable weather allow you to collect up to 20 kg of berries from 1 bush, on 1 hectare of land the yield reaches 200 centners.

The choice of planting material
Experienced gardeners recommend that beginners take cuttings and seedlings from those who made them from their vines and are professionally engaged in the production of such material.
You can evaluate the quality by cutting off a small amount of bark. When growing a bush from a cuttings and observing the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 90%, the high quality of the plant is practically guaranteed. It is possible to control the development of grapes at all stages.
Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 100%. The seedlings must be healthy. Pay attention to the absence of blisters, growths, or other signs of disease.

Growing features

Bianca does not require any specific care. To get a generous crop of good quality, it is enough to adhere to the usual agricultural standards.

Landing

If planting is planned for the autumn period, you need to focus on the first days of October. The vine signals the right time by shedding leaves. For planting Bianca grapes, the most suitable place is considered to be a hill. This variety does not like the soil with excessive moisture and prefers good lighting in the absence of drafts. The soil needs fertile and light, with neutral or low acidity, with a good level of aeration. Acidic soil needs to increase moisture permeability by fertilizing with chalk, dolomite flour and lime, and sandstones - in rotted organic matter.

Landing features
In order for the vine to give a signal harvest after 3 years, it is necessary to take into account many factors - from the type of soil on the site to the nearby plants.

Pollination

The flower type is bisexual.

Pruning

The bushes are pruned with the arrival of spring up to 30-40 shoots and in the fall, getting rid of unusable and damaged vines. Excess leaves are also subject to removal for better UV access to the brushes and increased ventilation to exclude fungal diseases and mold. It is recommended to trim up to 3-4 eyes. Bushes need rationing of the load.

Pruning is one of the main grape care procedures. Depending on the purpose of pruning and the type of plant, the appropriate type of formation is selected.

Watering

Bianca grapes give a good watering response. Waterlogging and sagging of the soil around the bushes is not allowed. When determining the watering time, you need to take into account the condition of the soil surface. Complete drying is a signal for watering. Depending on the weather, each bush needs 7-10 liters of warm water. The introduction of the liquid is carried out into a hole near the plant.

The cultivation of many bushes involves the use of a trench irrigation method or drip irrigation. Watering of the grapes stops at the time of flowering and 18-20 days before the start of the harvest. Moistened soil is mulched to retain moisture and prevent early germination of weeds.

Irrigation schemes
In order for the berries to be large and juicy, it is necessary to organize full watering and feeding. All standards must be adjusted for weather conditions and the rate of evaporation of the liquid.
With a frequent watering scheme, it is recommended to moisturize once every two weeks (that is, twice a month during flowering and the appearance of berries) so that the earth is saturated 50 cm deep so that the plant does not switch to superficial (dew) roots. This amount can be reduced by mulching the crop with straw.
With a rare irrigation scheme, choosing the age and maturation of the grapes, you can use the standards presented in the table in another article.

Top dressing

Plants need fertilizer three times per season:

  • phosphates and compounds with potassium in the spring;

  • nitrogenous fertilizers before the start of the growing season;

  • superphosphate or ammonium sulfate in the autumn season, before wintering.

And also wood ash is used as fertilizer, which nourishes the root system and prevents the development of infections.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

The culture is distinguished by good frost resistance. It tolerates temperatures as low as -25 C. Therefore, it is suitable for cultivation in regions located in the north.

In the realities of the southern climate, adult bushes that have reached the age of three do not need shelter. Young plants and those that grow in the middle lane must be covered. For this, fallen leaves, film, spruce branches or fiberglass are suitable.

Shelter for the winter is a very important step for the preservation of many grape varieties after wintering.

Diseases and pests

The variety is distinguished by average resistance to damage by powdery mildew of the present and false form. Rarely falls ill with phylloxera and other diseases characteristic of grapes. Bianca is more at risk of infection with alternaria fungi. The variety is distinguished by the ability to self-repair, having been ill or freezing. And also there is a possibility of harm to fruits by wasps and birds. Berries need protective measures against attacks by birds and stinging pests.

Storage

Harvesting is done with scissors. Mature brushes are carefully cut off and sent to storage in wooden boxes, spreading along the bottom in a thin layer and sprinkling the bunches with sawdust. Thin-skinned berries are not suitable for long-term storage. Prompt implementation or processing is required.

Bianca is considered one of the best wine varieties, which is successfully grown by private winegrowers and on an industrial scale.

Grapes of this variety are widely used for the preparation of high-grade drinks of various aging: high-quality grape vodka, semi-sweet wines and dry blended varieties with a delicate honey aroma and cognac with an almond flavor and a vanilla aftertaste.
