The Amur grape variety is very popular among gardeners. It also has other names: VI-39-71, Zhuravel VI-39-71. This technical variety has a late ripening period. It is considered quite resistant to temperature extremes, to various diseases and pest attacks.

Breeding history

Variety Amur was bred at the Moldavian Research Institute of Life Sciences by crossing a seedling (Nimrang x Pamyat Michurina) with an interspecific hybrid Datie de Saint Valier. The resulting variety turned out to be quite fruitful in the end, and later it received a high tasting rating (7.5 points).

Description

Vine bushes of this variety have large leaf blades of a round or slightly oval shape. Most often they are three-lobed, wavy. Their lower part has a light green color, dense pubescence on the leaves. The flowers are bisexual.

Ripening period

The period that lasts from the beginning of budding and until the full ripeness of the fruit is 165 days with the sum of active temperatures of 3000 degrees. The variety will begin to enter the fruiting process 3 years after planting, but a full harvest is obtained only in the fifth year. This type of grape is characterized by significant vigor of growth. Ripe berries will be fully ready for harvest in the second half of October.

Bunches

The clusters on such grape bushes are of medium size, their shape is conical, but sometimes winged ones are also found. The total weight of one such branch with berries is approximately 250-300 grams. All clusters are quite dense.

Berries

Ripe fruits weigh only 3-4 grams. Their colors are blue. On ripe berries, you can see a prune bloom. They have a soft and dense, juicy pulp.

Taste

This grape variety has a simple flavor. It is perfect both for fresh consumption and for making homemade wines, jams and other products.

Yield

The Amur variety has a high yield level. One hectare can be harvested about 160-175 centners of ripe fruits, so it is often used for planting on an industrial scale for the production of various red wines.

The choice of planting material
Experienced gardeners recommend that beginners take cuttings and seedlings from those who made them from their vines and are professionally engaged in the production of such material.
You can evaluate the quality by cutting off a small amount of bark. When growing a bush from a cuttings and observing the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 90%, the high quality of the plant is practically guaranteed. It is possible to control the development of grapes at all stages.
Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, survival rate is about 100%. The seedlings must be healthy. Pay attention to the absence of blisters, growths, or other signs of disease.

Growing features

In order for such grape bushes to fully develop and grow, special attention should be paid to the growing process, including choosing the right place for planting, and making the necessary fertilizing in a timely manner.

Landing

Before planting young grape seedlings, it is worth choosing a suitable place for this. For this variety, slightly acidic or neutral soils will be the best option.

Planting holes should be prepared approximately one month before planting. Their depth should be at least 60 centimeters. At the same time, a drainage layer is necessarily poured onto the bottom, then soil from river sand, peat and humus is immersed.

It is also recommended to add a little superphosphate and wood ash to the soil. Before planting the material, a small hole should be made where the vegetation with the root system will be placed.

Landing features
In order for the vine to give a signal harvest after 3 years, it is necessary to take into account many factors - from the type of soil on the site to the nearby plants.

Pollination

A dioecious grape variety will not need artificial pollination. Bees, which are attracted by the aroma of inflorescences, can also cope with this task.

Pruning

In order for the plant to develop normally, it is necessary to periodically prune. They are held every year. In the process of such treatments, all diseased and dead processes are removed from the plants. This procedure also allows you to give the bush the correct shape. It should be remembered that no pruning is necessary for the first year after planting.

Pruning is one of the main grape care procedures. Depending on the purpose of pruning and the type of plant, the appropriate type of formation is selected.
Irrigation schemes
In order for the berries to be large and juicy, it is necessary to organize full watering and feeding. All standards must be adjusted for weather conditions and the rate of evaporation of the liquid.
With a frequent watering scheme, it is recommended to moisturize once every two weeks (that is, twice a month during flowering and the appearance of berries) so that the earth is saturated 50 cm deep so that the plant does not switch to superficial (dew) roots. This amount can be reduced by mulching the crop with straw.
With a rare irrigation scheme, choosing the age and ripening period of the grapes, you can use the standards presented in the table in another article.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

The Amur grape variety belongs to frost-resistant varieties. It can withstand quite sharp temperature drops up to –28 degrees. However, he will still need shelter before the onset of the winter period.

Shelter for the winter is a very important step for the preservation of many grape varieties after wintering.

Diseases and pests

The Amur variety is considered quite resistant to a variety of diseases and pests, but at the same time grape bushes can still be affected by fungal infections, most often they appear due to excessive moisture.

And also sometimes this variety can be affected by mildew. In this case, spots of white-gray plaque will appear on the leaf blades. To get rid of them, it will be necessary to carry out treatment with fungicides.

In addition, regular preventive treatments should be carried out. For this, you can also use all kinds of fungicides.

Storage

With prolonged storage of berries on the bushes, they can become much sweeter. When assembled, ripe fruits are best stored in wooden boxes, you can place them in a cellar, basement, or simply in a refrigerator. In addition, the fruit can easily tolerate transportation due to the presence of a dense skin on the surface.
