In recent years, LED backlighting has established itself as a good advertising product that helps to attract the attention of buyers. In addition, lighting tapes are also used for domestic purposes. The main power of such devices is 12 V, but other 24 V models are becoming more and more popular.

Peculiarities

The 24 V diode tape has certain advantages over less powerful counterparts. These features directly affect the way of working, as well as the scope of application.

  • Current consumption. The rationale behind this advantage is that 24-volt models use half the current for the same power. This allows you to connect communications through wires of smaller diameter, which has a positive effect on the ease of installation and reduces the total weight of the structure.

Current loss is also reduced, so you can create a longer lighting chain without additional power supplies.

  • Brightness. This point does not concern the power of light, as one might assume, but the stability of the voltage distribution between different sections of the LED strip. 12 V models have full brightness at the beginning, but towards the end it fades a little, which can damage the visual component. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to conduct additional copper wire, which complicates the chain.

And 24-volt models do not have such a disadvantage.

  • Control. The most extensive lighting systems are best controlled through dimmers and other devices with which you can change the power, as well as switch the LED modes. The signal on 24-volt models is stronger than on 12 volts, so there is no need to build in special amplifiers to improve connection quality.

If we take into account the fact of the first point, then we can say that a dimmer with tapes of this voltage will be able to control a circuit with a power of 2 times more.

  • Reliability. Due to the prevalence of 12-volt models, they are produced by a large number of manufacturers, among which there are those who have not proven themselves from the best side. This may affect the fact that the buyer buys a low-quality product. While 24-volt LED strips are more rare, however, they are represented by fairly well-known companies that have considerable experience in the manufacture of such products.

The wider and richer the assortment, the higher indicators of quality and reliability the manufacturer is ready to provide.

24 V tapes have a certain classification, thanks to which it is possible to distinguish between models according to their scope of application. The first class of products is designed to create large-scale lighting, which is why the density of LEDs is quite low. The average distance exceeds 1 cm, and the total quantity per meter of tape is about 60 pieces. At the same time, due to their reliability and efficiency, these models spread light smoothly and on all sections of the tape.

There is another type of product that is best suited for use on short and small objects. As a rule, the LEDs in this case are grouped tightly in order to have the most attractive effect. Their number per meter of tape can be 200-240 pieces. It is also important to say about the multiplicity of one segment, which can be separated from the main length. This indicator can be either 3 or 6-7 LEDs.

This characteristic affects how differently you can use the tape depending on the situation.

Manufacturers create special models with different overall lengths. The standard indicator is 5 meters, but there are copies of 30 meters each. Among other types of 24-volt tapes, classes can be distinguished by the level of security. First of all, this applies to those profiles that fit the product. There are aluminum counterparts that bend well and provide basic protection. The anodized alloy is quite tough and well suited for a variety of applications.

LED strips also have such an indicator as a class of dust and moisture protection, which is of paramount importance before buying. If you plan to use the products indoors, then IP20 is enough, which does not protect against water in any way, but prevents small objects with a diameter of 12.5 mm from entering. When the sign is outdoors, IP65 or IP67 is the preferred option. They are both dust-proof design. In the first case, it only withstands the ingress of water jets. In the second version, the product can be completely immersed in water for up to half an hour.

The amount of water entering the device is not enough to negatively affect the operation of the LEDs.

It all depends on weather conditions, since the main problem is snow, which can be permanently located on signs, banners and other lighting objects.

The number of colors and their variety depends on the manufacturer. As mentioned earlier, 24-volt tapes are produced mainly by well-known companies that can offer the buyer the widest range of shades.

Standard whites, as well as beige, light blue, and the like are slightly cheaper due to their popularity.

Choice

The selection of LED strips of this power consists mainly of situational aspects that relate to the choice of any such product. First of all, these are dimensions. Manufacturers make models in different widths and lengths, so select based on the amount of lighting you need. Pay attention to those characteristics and types of tapes that were mentioned above.

As for the price, it is the same for most manufacturers and depends on the specific parameters of the LEDs, their sizes, frequency of placement and other features of the model.

Do not forget to study reviews and other material that will help you form your own opinion about the quality of the product. It also happens that, in general, the manufacturer has a good manufacturing level, but specific series of belts are not made in the best version and have some drawbacks.

Also, do not forget about the instructions, in which you can find more detailed characteristics, for example, the operating temperature range or the exact current consumption depending on the length of the tape.

How to connect?

The installation of this type of LED strips is no different from any other types. First of all, you need to choose the right profile based on the features of the lighting placement. There are overhead, hanging, corner options. Before gluing, make sure that you have fixed the profile at the required height and in the correct version. Then cut the tape to the same length as the profile. Focus on the special lines along which you can trim.

The tape has double-sided tape, which is the main way of attaching the product to the profile landing area. If you have glued the LEDs incorrectly, then reuse of such tape is not recommended, as the physical characteristics of the material adhesion deteriorate. After the correct positioning of the tape in the profile, you can complete the installation by fixing the cover / top part, if this is provided for by the design.

The next step is to connect the tape to the battery. It is done by connecting wires to the transformer.

It is worth saying that before that it is better to turn off the power supply system so that there are no drops and failures.
