All about extruded aluminum profile

At first glance, the mysterious phrase "extrusion production" has a very simple meaning. It is simply about pushing raw materials or semi-finished products through a special matrix to give it decorative properties. Almost everyone saw how it looks in practice. An ordinary manual meat grinder works exactly according to the same principle.

When the metal is pulled through the matrix, it is immediately cut into 6 m long lamellas, as long as its softness remains. Then, special polymer dyes are applied to the workpiece in several layers. The next step is to send it back to the oven, now to fix the paint. This technology guarantees resistance to:

• rubbing influence;

• the appearance of scratches;

• water ingress;

• fading in the bright sun.

But since the aluminum profile is extruded at a high temperature, it is impossible to fill the mold with special foam. It will simply burn out and ruin the whole result. The addition of foam to a regular profile reduces heat loss. However, since such a product is obtained using the roller-rolling technique, there are strict technological restrictions on its dimensions.

A special GOST for aluminum extruded profiles was introduced in 2018. The standard sets standards for such changes in products during normal operation, such as:

• violation of straightness;

• violation of planar qualities;

• the appearance of waviness (systematically replacing rises and troughs);

• twisting (rotation of cross-sections relative to the longitudinal axes).

Manufacturers divide the extrusion profile into:

• monolithic (aka solid);

• double, reinforced with stiffeners;

• lattice execution.

The latter option can often be seen in the windows of trade establishments of various profiles. With external imitation of the lattice, the strength indicators are not lost. It is easy to return the structure to the box, like with other roller shutters. Since the wind load through the openings is reduced, much larger openings can be covered than with a solid element.

In the official standard, by the way, there are much more profile categories. There it is subdivided according to:

• the state of the main material;

• section execution;

• accuracy of manufacturing procedures;

• degree of thermal resistance.

According to the actual state of the material, the profile is usually divided into:

• seasoned with natural aging;

• hardened with forced aging;

• partially hardened with forced aging;

• hardened unnaturally aged of maximum strength (and within each group there are several subspecies - however, this is already a question for technologists, for the consumer it is enough to know the general category).

Products are distinguished by accuracy:

• normal;

• increased;

• precision grades.

And also profiles can have protective coatings:

• anodic with oxides;

• liquid, from paints and varnishes (or applied by electrophoresis);

• based on powder polymers;

• mixed (several types at once).
