Modern housing design provides for the use of original finishes, especially for the design of ceilings. Today there are many building materials, thanks to which you can create beautiful compositions.

To make the interior of the room individual and unusual, it is recommended to install ceilings made of wooden slats. They are characterized not only by environmental friendliness, but also fit perfectly into any style, emphasizing favorably the main details of the decor. In addition, such designs fill the space with a pleasant scent of wood and make the room cozy.

Peculiarities

The strip suspended ceiling is a system consisting of metal profiles and wood panels that are fixed with special knitting needles. A free space is formed between the base and the arranged structure; it is used for the installation of various communications and electrical wiring. This type of ceiling is well suited for the decoration of both country houses and city apartments.

Wooden decor creates interesting compositions in corridors, bathrooms and kitchens, you can install similar systems in bedrooms or nurseries. A wide selection of models and colors makes the coating popular in design, in addition, the tree is characterized by many positive qualities, it is inherent in:

  • excellent sound insulation;
  • high thermal conductivity;
  • naturalness;
  • a huge selection of installation options;
  • ease of installation work;
  • affordable price;
  • attractive look.

Externally, a slatted ceiling made of wood resembles suspended panels made of MDF, plastic or metal, but unlike them, its covering is completely made of natural material. The installation of the composition begins only after the preparation of the frame, since the slats are attached to the crate.

This finish has the following features:

  • The suspension system of slats is able to hide imperfections and flaws in surfaces. Therefore, it is not necessary to level the base before installing it. In addition, wiring and ventilation ducts can be conveniently placed in the ceiling space.
  • Possibility of mounting any lighting sources. Their choice will depend on the design of the ceiling and the size of the room.
  • Wooden systems create a unique microclimate in the room, as the natural material "breathes" and allows air to pass through.
  • Rack decorations look beautiful in any interior and go well with other finishes.

Despite the presence of many positive properties, such ceilings also have their drawbacks:

  • Reducing the height of the room. Since the structure is attached to the frame, the ceiling takes up some space.
  • Installation work is not particularly difficult, but if you install long rails at intervals, then you cannot do without additional help.
  • The ceiling is unstable to high humidity and is "afraid" of water. Under the influence of condensation, structural parts can deform, therefore it is recommended to cover them with special solutions.
  • The tree heats up and burns quickly. Therefore, such ceilings require special fire safety technologies. To reduce the fire, the slats are treated with impregnation.
  • The instability of the finishing material to the decay process. Parts are very susceptible to mold and mildew formation. The duration of their operation can be increased only through chemical treatment.

Of course, these ceilings are characterized by significant drawbacks, but if they are installed correctly, you can create a unique design, filling the rooms with natural decor. The tree looks respectable and expensive, has a unique structure, so the slatted compositions will harmoniously fit into any home space.

For the installation of wooden ceilings, you can choose different types of solid wood, and to make the slats look beautiful, they are often tinted or painted with varnish. Each type of tree costs differently, so the installation of structures will depend on the financial capabilities of the family. For example, for the classic style, you need to purchase extremely expensive materials, and for decorating a room in country style, a cheap array is quite suitable, which can be decorated semi-antique.

Suspended slatted ceilings are considered an unusual design element both in large and in small rooms, but if the room is too low, then it is better to refuse this type of decoration. In order for the interior of the room to blend beautifully with the ceiling, it is necessary to first draw up a sketch of the room and select all the necessary component parts from it. The color of the wood will also play a huge role: for some styles it may be natural, while in other types of design, the slats will need to be tinted, giving them the appropriate shade.

Wooden slatted ceilings are very popular when performing finishing work in residential premises and public institutions.

These materials may differ not only in texture, color, shape, but also in the type of construction, therefore rack ceilings are:

  • Open type. The main feature of this configuration is the location of the boards: they are fixed in such a way that a small gap remains between the parts and the frame. Free space can be left open or covered with special decorative inserts. As a rule, the gaps are made small, and their width is five times less than the width of the main slats.

The plugs between the panels can be either wooden, metal or plastic, they harmoniously match the color and texture of the material, beautifully complement the composition. At the same time, in low rooms, it is recommended to use inserts between the slats, they will originally close the slots and make the overlap solid. As for spacious rooms, constructions without plugs are suitable for them.

In addition, inter-lath inserts play the role of decoration and improve the appearance of the ceiling. To make the design of the structure look unusual, you need to install plugs with a relief or mirror surface. Such structures are often installed in shopping and entertainment centers. When supplemented with good light sources, you get an interesting illusion of light.

  • Closed type. In such ceilings, the slats are attached end-to-end, as a result of which a single plane is formed, which looks like a solid base. Since there are no gaps between the parts, such designs are recommended for rooms with low ceilings. To better ensure ventilation between the base and the ceiling, perforated slats are used.

In addition, in such ceilings, lining or multi-colored panels can be used as a finishing material, they will turn a simple design into a real masterpiece, thanks to which a rich and exclusive interior will be obtained.

  • Combined. Recently, modern design of ceilings has been presented by an interesting combination of wood and other materials. Such a composition looks interesting in large rooms and fills them with an atmosphere of freshness. To install a stylish design, first make a frame, attach wooden slats to it and complement them with inserts. At the same time, the decorating material should have a spectacular appearance, therefore, panels of various sizes, heights and textures are chosen.

Lighting

Bright and high-quality lighting is the main component of any false ceiling, and structures made of wooden slats are no exception. Typically, spotlights and LED bulbs are used for this type of ceiling. When choosing them, you need to pay attention to the type of lamps and lamps, since there are rotary and non-rotary systems.

In addition, each model of the structure is unique, therefore, for its lighting, it is necessary to take into account the functional purpose of the room and the area of space.

To correctly select and install light sources, you should adhere to the following recommendations:

  • Spotlights. As a rule, incandescent lamps are built into them and they are characterized by large sizes. Therefore, this fact is important to take into account when calculating the level of the structure. Such lamps are inexpensive, but they consume a lot of electricity and wear out quickly during operation, they are enough for a maximum of 2 years of operation. In addition, in order to carry out the installation of the backlight, you will have to provide for special openings in the frame, and due to this, the height of the room will decrease.
  • Halogen lamps. They are considered an economical and reliable source of lighting, since their service life can be up to 10 years. When installing this lighting system, you do not have to "lower" the ceiling, the lamps will only take 3-5 cm of overlap.
  • LED lights. They are considered ideal for wooden slatted ceilings. They have high efficiency, are resistant to mechanical damage and high humidity, so they can be chosen for rooms with variable temperature conditions. In addition, LED bulbs provide bright illumination that enhances the natural beauty of the wood.

It is worth paying attention to the fact that all of the above lighting sources can be installed both separately and in combination with each other. For example, in rooms where zoning is necessary, the ceiling structure is made complex, so each zone will be illuminated with a certain type of lamp.

Examples in the interior

Wooden slatted ceilings occupy one of the main places in modern design, since, in addition to having many positive characteristics, they allow you to decorate a stylish interior. Such structures look good in spacious rooms, in the decoration of which natural materials were used.

An excellent choice would be a slatted ceiling for living rooms. To add luxury to the design, a wood top made of pine, oak or birch must be coated with a decorative varnish, resulting in an unusual effect. In this case, the color of the ceiling structure must be combined with the shades of the walls and flooring.

It is not recommended to use slatted ceilings in the interior of rooms where there is decoration in the form of wallpaper and decorative plaster. If you choose this composition for design, then the slats must be complemented with finishing materials with a texture that is most suitable for wood. Therefore, wood paneling on the walls and laminate flooring are ideal.

The combination of suspended structures against the background of white walls also looks beautiful. If the area of the room allows, then in its interior it is possible to combine the stone wall cladding and the wooden ceiling in an original way.

Often in modern housing layouts there are combined rooms where the living room is connected to the dining room or kitchen. Such studio kitchens require an unusual design, in which it would be possible to beautifully perform zoning and fill the space with natural decor elements. In this case, it is recommended to install a suspended timber ceiling in the kitchen area, and highlight the dining or living room area with a false panel.
