Currently, various types of polycarbonate are widely used in construction. In order for structures made of this material to serve as long as possible, the fasteners should be correctly selected for their installation. The best option would be a special galvanized tape. You should be aware of the features of such a product.

Peculiarities

Galvanized polycarbonate tape allows for the strongest and most reliable connection. It makes it possible to mount to almost any other material. Galvanized tape for polycarbonate is a metal straight piece, which undergoes a special careful processing during the manufacturing process., allowing you to further protect the metal from corrosion.

The standard width of such elements reaches 20 mm, their thickness is 0.7 mm. Galvanized coating protects the material from chemical destruction during operation. In addition, this application provides bond strength.

If you plan to attach polycarbonate to a frame metal structure in a greenhouse or greenhouse, then preference should be given to complex fixation using such tapes. In this case, it will be possible to tie several sheets at the same time.

Nuances of choice

Before purchasing galvanized tape for attaching polycarbonate, there are several important points to consider. Remember that only certain types of such fasteners will be suitable for different types of polycarbonate sheets.

In construction, 2 variants of polycarbonate are most often used: sheet and honeycomb. The first model is considered more durable, it is used for the construction of structures that are subjected to heavy loads. Such samples require more stable fasteners that can provide a strong and durable connection of materials. Cellular polycarbonate has less thermal conductivity and strength. It is for this variety that galvanized fastening tape is most often used for reliable fixation.

Tightening metal fasteners for polycarbonate can also be of 2 varieties: sealing and vapor-permeable. The second option is considered more preferable, since it allows you to minimize the clogging of the pores of the honeycomb material, while providing a good ventilation system and removal of the resulting condensate.

Sealing galvanized tapes for fixing polycarbonate also have a number of important advantages. They allow you to limit the contact of the material with the environment, thus preventing the penetration of moisture and air into the interior of the structures.

Mounting

When carrying out installation work on installing polycarbonate without self-tapping screws using galvanized tape, some rules should be followed. The sheets must be pressed very tightly to the metal frame of the structure.

A long piece of fastener is attached to the lower section of the frame... The long and short parts are attached to each other. After that, a special tightening bolt is installed. The tape is carefully thrown to the other side of the structure, and then the reverse side of the shortened section is attached to the bottom of the frame. With the help of another tension bolt, a strong tension of the fastening strips is made, this allows for the most reliable and stable adhesion of the material to the metal.

Galvanized tape allows you to create durable, easy and fast fastening of polycarbonate sheets. In this case, it will not be necessary to pre-drill the structure.

When installing polycarbonate, a special joint tape is also often used. It is needed in order to attach sheets to each other with an overlap without installing supports. In this case, the installation is carried out in several separate steps.

  • Overlapping polycarbonate sheets on top of each other. In this case, the overlap should be about 10 cm.
  • Preparing punched tape. The perforated part is carefully separated along the length of the connection made. For a secure fit, it is better to take 2 strips.
  • Applying galvanized punched tape. One of the metal strips is laid on the upper part of the canvas located on top. The second strip is superimposed on the lower part of the canvas, placed in the lower section. In this case, all mounting holes on the strips must coincide with each other. For convenience, the strips can be temporarily adjusted and fixed using ordinary tape.
  • Hole formation. Using a drill with special attachments, they make seats on the material. Bolts will then be inserted into them. Both canvases are firmly pulled together. Remember that the more often the installation step of such fasteners is, the more durable the connection will be in the end.

After completion of such an installation, all the load from the bolts will be transferred to the mounting perforated tape, it will evenly affect both polycarbonate sheets along the entire length of the joint obtained.

Often, the installation of polycarbonate material is carried out using a special heat-resistant washer. Such an additional element does not allow the material to deteriorate and deform during the installation process, and also makes it possible to evenly distribute the clamping load. Before installing the galvanized tape, the surface of the polycarbonate sheets should be checked. It should not even have minor scratches, irregularities and other defects. If they are present, they must first be deleted. This will allow you to mount the fastening tape to the material as accurately and tightly as possible. In those places of polycarbonate to which the galvanized tape will be attached, it is imperative to remove the protective film. This will also ensure a tighter fit of the sheets to the frame.
