Drilling machines for metal are one of the most important types of industrial equipment. When choosing, it is necessary to take into account not only the rating of the models, but also the general structure and individual types. Be sure to pay attention to Russian-made industrial machines for drilling holes and products from other countries.

Principle of operation

The name itself says that this device is designed to prepare holes in metal and in some other materials. In the process of work, both through and blind holes can be obtained. Before starting the machine, the required workpiece is attached to the work table. In some cases, it can be placed in some other way, but these are already atypical situations, which they try to avoid as much as possible. Further:

  • putting the workpiece in its proper place, turn on the device to the network;
  • adjust the required speed and other drilling parameters;
  • a drill is installed in the chuck, and if necessary, a quill is mounted;
  • as soon as the device is started (voltage is applied to the drive itself), the drilling unit begins to operate;
  • the cutting mechanism is lowered onto the workpiece (this is usually done manually, but there are also automatic options).

Types and device

A typical metal drilling machine consists of several standard parts. Its structure is almost not influenced even by whether the equipment is intended for domestic use or for industrial enterprises. The key blocks are:

  • spindle headstock, where the chuck is attached;
  • drilling head (a larger design, which, in addition to the spindle head, also includes an electric drive and a belt drive that transmits a mechanical impulse);
  • bearing stand (usually made in the form of a column) - the drilling unit is installed on it;
  • base plate made of steel alloy or cast iron;
  • Desktop;
  • control panel;
  • gear shifting systems.

The difference between home and professional equipment is that the latter is focused on a much higher pace of work, very productive and almost not afraid of overload. Almost all the most powerful systems have a multi-spindle format and can simultaneously perform several operations. However, advanced single-spindle machines are not too inferior to such equipment. Additionally, there are:

  • radial drilling machines (producing holes at a certain angle);
  • vertical drilling machines (the drill in them is fixed motionless, and all adjustments are made by moving the workpieces themselves);
  • horizontal drilling;
  • light, medium and heavy machines (the main gradation is the size of the resulting hole, which directly depends on the power of the drilling part and its dimensions).

Model overview

In the budget segment, there are mainly brands of Asian origin. Despite this, they show very good results. A striking example will be the Nexttool BCC-13 drilling machine. This Chinese machine has a good warranty period. Solid materials were used for the manufacture of the device, its execution is thoroughly thought out.

A vise was also provided for fixing the workpieces. The power of the asynchronous drive is 0.4 kW. The speed is maintained from 420 to 2700 turns in 60 seconds. Switching between 5 different speeds is quite convenient. There is no reverse - but many more advanced devices do not have it either.

In the ranking, it is worth mentioning the very reliable Ryobi RDP102L machine. It is produced in Japan. The engine is even weaker than in the previous sample - only 0.39 kW. However, the 24-month proprietary warranty allows us to assume that the device will work for a long time. The drill can move at speeds up to 2430 rpm.

It is useful to pay attention to Russian-made products. For example, on machine 2L132... This vertical drilling machine is suitable for assembly and repair shops. Its features:

  • 12 different speeds of rotation;
  • the possibility of threading with mechanical taps;
  • placement of bearings in quill;
  • manual movement of the spindle by 25 cm;
  • total weight - 1200 kg;
  • the largest section of the hole is 5 cm.

Application

It is predictable that in most cases metal drilling machines are used to drill holes in metal parts and structures. But at the same time it is necessary to take into account the difference between the types of metals in terms of hardness and other mechanical properties. Due to these differences, it is impossible to use one machine version for all technological operations. Also, this equipment can be useful:

  • for sharpening drills;
  • when countersinking;
  • with a more accurate reaming of already obtained holes;
  • for deployment;
  • for cutting discs from sheet metal;
  • when receiving an internal thread.
