Channel is a popular type of rolled metal, which is produced from different grades of steel. The cross-section of the product has the shape of the letter "P" and has high strength characteristics. The range of channel products includes several classifications and varieties of steel products, which are worth considering in more detail.

Types by manufacturing method

The production of channel elements is carried out using special equipment - installations that bend the workpieces by means of temperature or forces. According to the manufacturing method, the profile is divided into:

  • hot-rolled steel channel;
  • steel channel of special structure;
  • bent steel channel with the same shelves;
  • channel steel bent unequal flange.

It is interesting that the second option was created exclusively for use in car building. Hot-rolled products are mainly used for the construction of reliable structures that will have to experience impressive loads during operation. The features of the material produced by the hot rolling method include the ability to install the element in the following positions:

  • horizontal;
  • vertical;
  • oblique.

In this case, the fixing of the channel can be performed by welding or fasteners. A distinctive feature of the hot-rolled profile is its strict shape, through which it is possible to organize a tight contact of the metal with flat planes. Bent profiles are produced on special machines that bend the workpiece, forming shelves of the desired length and providing the slope of the edges if necessary. Such elements are used mainly in mechanical engineering and industry. Curved channels are also used to assemble furniture, road infrastructure structures or roof elements when used in private construction.

Views by location of inner faces

According to the type of execution of the inner edges, the channels are divided into:

  • elements with a parallel arrangement of shelves;
  • products with a slope of the inner edges of the shelves.

The slope of the inner edges increases the strength characteristics of the channel and expands the scope of its application. Such products are in demand both in construction and in industrial and agricultural sectors.

Sizes overview

The production of channels must be carried out in accordance with the requirements of GOST 8240. The regulatory document describes in detail the manufacturing technologies, the main characteristics of each type of channel products. For clarity, the data are collected in special tables, which form the assortment of the profile. The use of tabular data will allow you to determine the quality of the product by correlating the dimensions of the manufactured products with those presented in the document: 60x40x4, 32x16 are common examples. The average deviation from the norm, as already noted, should not be higher than 3 mm. Ideally, the indicators should be exactly the same.

The height of the profile ranges from 50 to 400 mm, the width of the shelves is 32-115 mm, depending on the grade. The maximum error in dimensions should not exceed 3 mm, and this is provided for by GOST. The listed intervals include the following channels: 16, 22U, 65, 6, 5P, 300, K225, 33P, 27U, 12, K347, P20, P14, 10, P12, K225U2, 36P. And this is not a complete list. In rare cases, channels are made to order. This is the only way to increase the deviation from the original dimensions. Production in this case implies the release of small batches that are required for use in a specific project.... It is worth noting that change here both the characteristics of the finished product and its cost.

The main indicator of the channel size is the height, denoted by the letter h and determines the distance between the shelves along the wall. The height is prescribed in centimeters in the markings after the main letter. Other dimensional characteristics that are used in GOST:

  • b - demonstrates the width of the shelves;
  • S- responsible for the thickness of the main wall;
  • R - shows the radius of curvature of the inner edges of the shelves;
  • t - shelf thickness;
  • r Is the overall radius, demonstrating the degree of curvature of the shelves.

You cannot ignore the weight of the channel, which is one of the important indicators when choosing a product. To calculate the required amount of material, it is necessary to calculate how much metal there is per 1 linear meter of the finished product.

Marking and its decoding

Channel is a popular material both in construction and in other areas. The product is used for the assembly of durable metal structures and the construction of durable frames. The correct choice of a profile first of all requires knowledge of the assortment labeling, which is regulated GOST 8240... The normative document contains information on different types of channels, which can be distinguished by special lettering in the name. Standard types of markings.

  • "NS" - demonstrates the parallelism of the inner edges.
  • "U" - marking indicating the presence of a slight slope of the inner edges of the channel flanges.
  • "NS" - informs about an economical model of rolled metal, the edges of the shelves of which are parallel to each other.
  • "L" - The peculiarity of the profile is its low weight, achieved by reducing the thickness of the wall and shelves.
  • "WITH" - a special type of channels with shelves, the edges of which are at a certain angle.

There are two subspecies of special channels. In this category, rental is additionally divided into regular and heavy. The latter has improved strength characteristics, but is expensive and weighs a lot. Therefore, the weighted assortment is not very popular.

Next to the letter there may be a numerical indicator: K225, 33P, 27U, K347, P12, 36P, K225U2. It indicates the height of the wall, which is one of the important criteria when choosing a profile. It should be borne in mind that the marking of numerical values is carried out in centimeters. In the GOST table, the height of the brand is presented in millimeters. For example, the wall height of the 14U channel is 14 cm and 140 mm, respectively.

According to the requirements specified in GOSTs, the geometric parameters of the rolled profile are interrelated. Therefore, it will not be difficult to determine other dimensions of the channel among the variety of numbers if you find the markings or the height of the wall of the productlia.
