Thirty years ago, they did not require much from the ceiling. He was supposed to only be white, even and serve as a background for a luxurious or modest chandelier, which was sometimes the only source of light for the entire room. In the best case, the interior was equipped with an additional lighting device - a floor lamp or a sconce.

Since then, the ceilings themselves have increasingly begun to turn into complex multi-level structures with various lighting options, which can transform the interior, emphasize its dignity and create a unique atmosphere in it. Thanks to the use of a variety of lighting devices and structures of the ceilings themselves, you can embody the most unusual options for their design.

Peculiarities

The backlight as such gives the impression that the ceiling is higher than it actually is. And this is what she is good at. In addition, diffused lighting is convenient in certain everyday situations.

A backlit ceiling can be, for example, a hemmed structure, when drywall or other material is mounted on the batten, a suspension system, or it can be a stretch ceiling. There are single-level, multi-level structures or even curly ones, where lamps are mounted.

There are many types of luminaires on the market today - economical, safe, with which you can achieve various design effects. When drawing up a drawing of a future design ceiling, deciding on the choice of certain lighting devices, the following should be taken into account:

  • the price of lamps;
  • the purpose of future lighting;
  • the type of insulation inside the ceiling structure;
  • whether the installation will be carried out independently or by specialists.

Materials (edit)

Modern ceilings are made from a wide variety of materials. You can make an unusual structure from rails... As a result of combining such illuminated wooden elements, an unusual design is obtained, for example, in a country house.

By making a special plasterboard box (in other words, drywall) with bumpers in the form of a rectangle or square, or even an intricate shape with smooth lines, you can get an effective design solution. Plaster structures are mounted on a frame made of a metal profile.

The sides can mask the diode tape, with which the backlight is created.

Through the use of separate fixtures, the plaster ceiling gains light accents and brighter illumination in certain areas of the room. At the same time, wires and other structural elements are hidden from view in invisible cavities.

If we are talking about uncomplicated gypsum structures, then they are mounted quite simply. Even an inexperienced person who knows how to hold an instrument in his hands can cope with such work. At the same time, the ceiling system itself perfectly eliminates the contemplation of the defects of the "natural" ceiling, it can be decorated with wallpaper with a non-woven or paper base, and other design moves can be applied.

A very unusual ceiling is obtained by using acrylic parts in a suspended structure.... The polycarbonate ceiling successfully replaces the glass one. Moreover, it is safer both in terms of use and installation. Combining a material such as acrylic with backlighting always looks impressive.

Lighting types

The choice of lamps for illumination is an important design component.On the one hand, it is necessary that their power be sufficient to perform the assigned functions, on the other hand, so that design delights do not cost too much and do not threaten a fire.

The ceiling lighting itself can be divided into:

  • design;
  • target;
  • general purpose.

With the last option, everything is clear - this is ordinary lighting. Target is designed to highlight a specific functional area. It happens, for example, it is important to provide additional light in the place where the desk is located.

To solve design problems neon lights can be used... A neon lamp in the classical sense is a glass tube filled with an inert gas, neon.

To achieve a soft glow effect, a ceiling with hidden lighting is usually created. The lamps are hidden on the inside of a special niche in the ceiling structure, which allows diffused light to enter through the side.

In the simplest version, neon lamps are installed in a polystyrene cornice... It is possible to mount lighting without even resorting to the services of specialists. It is enough to have an idea of how to properly connect lighting devices to the electrical network.

They serve ten to fifteen years. Such lamps do not get very hot, which is of great importance from the point of view of fire safety. But at the same time they "eat" a lot of electricity... The lamps themselves are quite fragile and require careful handling.

A common design move is spot lighting., with which you can achieve the effect of a starry sky, create an atmosphere of solemnity or intimacy in the room, emphasize certain functional areas. Most often, this method of illuminating the ceiling is used in multi-level and combined structures using drywall.

Lamps are used here:

  • Compact fluorescent. By its design, such a device is a gas-discharge light source. In mercury vapor, an electric discharge creates UV radiation, which becomes visible thanks to a phosphor. Such devices are economical and low heat dissipation. Due to this, they can be used when installing stretch ceilings.
  • Halogen... Unlike incandescent lamps, the spirals of which are in a vacuum, halogen lamps are filled with iodine and bromine vapors inside. But, like ordinary light bulbs, they get very hot. Therefore, they cannot be used in every situation.
  • LED... The brightness of the lamp depends on the number of LEDs built into it. Such electrical appliances are the most economical, while their efficiency is maximum. And this justifies their high cost.

For spotlights, LED bulbs are the best choice. They practically do not heat up, so they can be safely used to illuminate stretch ceilings. Together with drywall, they also look great.

A spotlight can be:

  • built-inwhen it is mounted inside;
  • overheadwhen located on the surface of the ceiling;
  • suspension - looks like a miniature chandelier.

Everything more often LED strips are used to illuminate ceilings. They come in solid color LEDs, glowing blue or, for example, white, as well as shades of yellow and red. You can find ribbons with different colors. They are also called RGB - according to the first letters of the names of the primary colors Red, Green, Blue - red, green, blue.

Ready-made sets for lighting ceilings are also on sale. In addition to the LED strip itself, this kit includes a remote control with which you can change the backlight tone and set the frequency of its change. The tapes themselves differ in the density of the diodes on them. There can be 30 or all 120 of them on one meter. The tape is cut in specially marked places, which allows you to use a piece of the required length.

Installation in this case is extremely simple. The reverse side of the strip is sticky.Built into a ceiling recess or attached to a cornice, it will create a unique ambience throughout the room.

With its help, it is easy to create contour illumination, which can even be double.

You can try to use light panels in the interior. They are successfully used in the design of educational buildings, offices and even industrial facilities.

These lighting fixtures are different:

  • By form - can be round, rectangular and square.
  • To size: 30 by 30 cm, 120 by 30 and 60 by 30 cm. Round diameter from 12 to 60 cm. Thickness - no more than 15 mm.
  • By installation type... You can choose overhead, suspended or recessed.

If you use them to decorate the ceiling in an apartment, you can achieve an original design solution.

Design

The choice of ceiling design must be approached based on the area of the room and its configuration. Sophisticated ceiling structures, for example, with a two-level niche, will look impressive in a spacious room with high ceilings. For a small one, it is better to choose a simpler design. A multi-colored or blue LED strip along the perimeter of the glossy ceiling will give it originality, allowing you to create a festive or mysterious room design.

Translucent ceilings look unusualilluminated by special lamps. You can achieve an imitation of a transparent ceiling if you make a false window in it using photo printing. A drawing depicting a cloudy or starry sky is glued to the ceiling niche, and lighting is organized around the perimeter.

An original light composition can be created using patterns that shine through from the inside of the ceiling structure. This is done using an LED strip.

You can create a carved ceiling in the apartment. In fact, it is stretched, but consisting of several canvases at different levels. One or more of these layers are cut to create a specific shape. These can be abstract shapes, as well as images of flowers, butterflies, animals, and so on. These paintings, illuminated by indoor and outdoor lamps, make a stunning impression.

With all the advantages of illuminated ceilings, you need to be aware that it is not appropriate in every interior. In a room decorated in the Empire style with columns and stucco molding, there is no place for modern ceiling lighting options... It will look ridiculous. Therefore, in this case, lighting design must be treated very delicately.

Application area

Illuminated ceilings can be used in almost any room of an apartment. For example, plaster structures with a water-repellent effect are quite appropriate in the bathroom and in the kitchen. Their competent and beautiful illumination can also be organized here.

The ceiling light decor is also good in the corridor. And in the bedroom, nursery and living room, it's a sin not to experiment with such a design. Moreover, there are a huge number of solutions - from the most modest to luxurious.

Tips & Tricks

In order not to experience disappointment after creating a backlit ceiling, it is better to heed the advice of experienced designers in advance.

  • So, experts do not advise to perceive the backlight as the main source of light in the room. Ceiling recessed lamps, even powerful enough, cannot compete with lighting from a conventional chandelier.
  • It is better that the illumination is not only provided for by the design of the ceiling, but also solves a specific task: it denotes and illuminates functional areas or complements the futuristic image of the entire interior. With its help, it is also good to play with the color appearance of the entire room or create a contrast with it.
  • When creating niches, keep in mind that without special lighting in the daytime, they can look heavy and gloomy. Therefore, when arranging the ceiling, it is better to work out in advance both the daytime and evening views of the ceiling.
  • Experts advise paying attention to the option when LED or neon lights are mounted in the curtain rod. With this local lighting, you can emphasize the window decoration and achieve a sense of comfort in the room.
  • When playing with lighting designs, it is important not to overdo it. If you apply several of its varieties at the same time, you can get an effect from which your eyes will get tired or such a "Christmas tree" will quickly get bored.

Beautiful examples in the interior

A stretch ceiling with a white light pattern in the form of a flower arrangement will perfectly complement the living room interior in the evening. It will delight the owners of the apartment and will be a surprise for people who come to visit for the first time.

The ceiling, decorated with star lamps, will add zest to the room and set it in a romantic mood, reminding you that you should not forget to look up from time to time.

The subdued blue lighting of the ceiling, passing onto the wall, looks very harmonious in the interior of the bedroom. Nothing superfluous, nothing flashy, just for a room where people dream.

Stretch ceiling with LED lighting perfectly complements the interior of the kitchen, emphasizing the rich color of the headset.

With the help of combined lighting, you can emphasize not only the original shape of the ceiling structure, but also the chandelier. The curly outline, highlighted with red light, looks like a translucent fabric, casually thrown over the ceiling and by some miracle does not fall from it.
