Almost all children love active outdoor games. Few of them are able to sit in one place for a long time. And it's good if there is a playground nearby, where you can always look after your child.

Not all cottage villages and private sectors are equipped with playgrounds for children. Of course, this will not upset the fidgets, they will always find a place for entertainment. But such entertainment often makes parents nervous. And so that your child has a place to play, you can build a playground right in your yard.

Types of sites

First of all, you should familiarize yourself with the types of structures in order to understand which one is best for your child. There are a lot of options, depending on various parameters. A children's playground is a whole complex consisting of many components. If you have materials and skills, you can assemble it completely with your own hands. Otherwise, individual parts or the entire platform can be purchased from specialized stores.

Let's look at the types of playgrounds depending on the age of the child.

    • For babies up to three years old - the simplest and cheapest option, since at this age children do not need a variety of sports equipment. One slide, horizontal bar, swing and a couple of ladders will be enough. The number of these elements may vary depending on the number of children.
    • For children from three to seven years old - a more complex structure of medium size. At this age, children are most active, so do not forget about the maximum safety of the site. In addition, the elements listed in the first paragraph will not be enough. Can be completed with a trampoline, rope, rope ladders and gymnastic rings.
    • For children over seven years old and adolescents - the most complex site in terms of structure. First, it must be of solid size. Secondly, it should include a variety of equipment, for example, a climbing wall, a tennis table, a basketball hoop and exercise equipment.

Playgrounds are divided into several types depending on the materials from which they are made.

    • Metallic - usually made of stainless steel. They are the strongest and most reliable, as they can withstand heavy loads. They can also boast of durability. However, they are heavy, which significantly complicates the installation process. Moreover, such a site must be concreted.
    • Wooden - less reliable, but attractive and at the same time environmentally friendly. But they require constant care. It is recommended to treat wood with various substances to protect it from external factors and pests. In addition, the site will have to be painted every year. But in the event of a breakdown, it is easy to repair it.
    • Plastic - the most modern and practical option. It is very easy to install, but it will not work to assemble such a platform from improvised means, you will have to purchase it in a store. At the same time, pay attention to the presence of a certificate from the manufacturer that his product complies with environmental safety standards. In this case, the plastic playground is the safest for children.
    • Combined - playgrounds rarely include elements from the same material. Therefore, they can be assembled using various constituents. For example, wood and stainless steel structures are the best and most reliable sites for handicraft production.

    Which option should you choose?

The choice of a playground is entirely up to you and your child's wishes. Of course, the most important factor in choosing is the age of the child. In addition, you need to take into account other factors, including the size of your site, the quality and reliability of the structure.

We recommend that you take into account the generally accepted building codes and regulations for the construction of playgrounds and sports grounds.

      1. The site must be isolated. That is, to be at an acceptable distance from roads, car parks, garbage containers, as well as places where construction materials are stored.
      2. The surface on which the platform stands must be soft so that children can avoid injury if they fall. For these purposes, grass, sand, as well as rubber or synthetic materials are suitable.
      3. On the territory of the site there should be no plants that could harm the health of the child. For example, flowers with thorns.
      4. There should be benches, litter bins and, most importantly, lighting near the playgrounds to provide children with good visibility in the evening. By the way, many sports grounds in the courtyards of apartment buildings have stands with rules of conduct. It is unlikely that someone will put such a stand on their site. But it is still worthwhile to personally educate your child about these rules.
      5. Observe the generally accepted sizes for playgrounds. For children aged three to seven years - at least 50 square meters. For children older - at least 100 square meters.

      Site selection and preparation

The above norms and requirements are not the only ones, because we are talking about children and their safety. Before starting the construction of a sports ground, you will have to puzzle over when choosing a suitable place. Especially if you don't have a fairly large garden plot.

It is not necessary to place the site in the open air. It is best to place it under a large branchy tree so that in summer it would cover the structure from the heat. At the same time, it must be protected from the wind. Place a hedge around it that is at least two meters high.

And don't forget the soft, safe ground cover. The soil is traumatic in itself, and getting wet after rain, it becomes even more dangerous. You can cover it with, for example, lawn grass. In addition, if the site is metal, it must be concreted.

There is no need to talk about the danger of children's entertainment on a concrete surface.

Today in hardware stores you can find a variety of modern materials. Among them are crumb rubber, which is used to cover treadmills in sports complexes. Of the advantages of the material, one can single out convenience, protection from injury during falls and a long service life. However, there is one significant drawback - such coverage is quite expensive.

The second modern option is a plastic cover with a mesh structure. Among the advantages are resistance to wear, a pleasant appearance, as well as a structure due to which water does not linger on the surface.

      Installation and filling

When a suitable place is selected and prepared, you can proceed to installation. People with an engineering mindset can develop a plan on their own. You can also order a project from specialists who will draw up a drawing, taking into account the characteristics of your site and the wishes of your children.

The main thing is to decide in advance what elements should be available on your site. One can proceed from the most common types.

      1. Swing - the most popular active entertainment for children. They can always be installed separately from the site. The main thing is to provide a secure fit. All-metal structures are best suited for these purposes. The swing itself should be based on chains or strong ropes. It is necessary to arrange them so that nothing interferes with swinging.
      2. Sandbox and slide - for compactness, they are usually located one above the other. When calculating the size, it is worth considering the age of the child. Firstly, this affects the height and steepness of the slide, and secondly, in the sandbox, the child must be placed at full height.

Dig four holes 50 centimeters deep. Install strong beams there and cement. At the top of the beams there is a platform for beams. If the structure is made of wood, do not forget to treat it with an antiseptic.

The best material for stingray is metal, but it can be made from cheaper plywood.

After completing the installation, fill the sandbox with clean sieved sand.

      • Small house - most often it is equipped on the upper platform for the slide. But if you put it at the bottom, it will be of interest to the smallest children. The house can be replaced with a budget hut, for example, made of willow branches.
      • Gymnastic rings - like a swing, it should be placed on strong chains and withstand a lot of weight. Set the height of the rings according to the age and height of your child.
      • Rope - usually hung on playgrounds for children over seven years old. It must be reliable, well tied to the mount. On the entire rope from the lower end, knots should be placed for support with hands and feet, approximately 60 centimeters apart.
      • Hammock - a place where children can relax. The main thing is that it is not very high, the child must climb into it on his own and not be injured when falling.
      • Log - a simple projectile to develop balance. It is better to install it on metal supports not high above the ground. The projectile itself is made from a wooden log, by cleaning, grinding and coating it with protective substances.

Installing a playground in your yard is not easy and not cheap. But if you do decide to please your children, follow our recommendations in order not to make mistakes and be the best parents in the world.
