When choosing a variety of pepper for planting on their land plot, many gardeners pay attention only to the appearance of the fruit. However, experts advise taking into account other characteristics that will help achieve high yields, taking into account the climate and weather conditions.

One of the main factors when choosing is the ripening time, which is especially important for regions with short summers and long frosty winters. Mustang pepper is an early type of vegetable that will surprise you with good yields even in capricious weather conditions.

Description of the variety

Mustang is a sweet pepper variety. Seedlings are planted in open ground or in greenhouses. The first option is more preferable for areas with a mild climate, and when grown indoors, the plants will be protected from cold weather and the vagaries of the weather.

This variety was bred by breeders from Russia. Despite the fact that this is not an ultra-early ripening variety, it will feel comfortable in the northern regions.

For regions with short summers, it is advisable to choose cultivation through the seedling method. Growers also paid attention to other characteristics of the variety, such as excellent taste and resistance to low temperatures.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits

Medium-sized plants reach a height of 45-65 centimeters. The structure is semi-spreading. The shoots are covered with bright green leaves of medium size, the texture is slightly wrinkled. The position of the fruit is drooping.

The pepper grows medium in size, and its weight ranges from 89 to 109 grams. Sometimes it is possible to grow vegetables weighing up to 200-250 grams. The shape of the fruit is standard, in the form of a cone. When the vegetables reach technical maturity, they are yellow, and when fully ripened, their color becomes saturated red. The surface is smooth and glossy. The wall thickness is 6-8 millimeters. The harvest of this variety is considered to be thick-walled.

Inside, from 3 to 4 seed chambers are formed. The flesh is crispy, moderately dense and juicy. The fruits can be stored for about 2 months. Excellent transportability and marketability allows you to grow a variety for sale. The attractive appearance and brightness of the fruit will surely attract the attention of buyers.

Purpose and taste

The gastronomic characteristics are excellent. Pepper received the following uses:

  • preparation of hot and cold dishes;
  • conservation;
  • freezing;
  • eating in natural form;
  • different types of vegetable processing.

Ripening terms

The ripe fruits of the early Mustang sweet pepper are harvested from the end of July. From 95 to 110 days pass from the moment of emergence to the beginning of fruiting.

Note: some gardeners note that picking vegetables can begin even before reaching technical ripeness, when the skin remains slightly greenish. The fruits are able to ripen during storage.

Yield

The fruit variety is considered fruitful. On average, when planting in open ground, 2.8 kilograms of vegetables are harvested from a square meter of beds, and in greenhouses and film shelters, the yield reaches 6.7 kilograms.

Landing scheme

The recommended planting pattern for the Mustang variety is 60x40 centimeters.

To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.

Growing and care

When cultivating pepper, the following agricultural rules should be adhered to:

  • the recommended timing for early sowing for seedlings is from February to March;
  • after the appearance of 1-2 full-fledged sheets, picking of seedlings is performed, they are seated in separate containers;
  • during the season, 2-3 single dressings are carried out - complex compositions from organic matter or minerals are used;
  • before planting seedlings in open ground, they are hardened for a week;
  • harvest fruits as they ripen.

If the seedlings will be transferred to an area without shelter, work should be done only after the spring frost has completely passed. The optimal dates are late spring or early June. In the borders of the southern regions, the transplanting process can be performed much earlier.

Additional features of fruit crop care:

  • sweet peppers prefer light, fertile and loose soil;
  • during the day the air temperature should be about 25-28 degrees Celsius, and after sunset - 10-15 degrees;
  • soil acidity level - from 6 to 9 pH;
  • water the beds as needed and only with warm and settled water.

Also, do not forget about the standard agricultural technology, which consists in cleaning the land from weeds, examining the bushes for symptoms of diseases and using supports. To fertilize pepper, nitrophoska is often used. Mustang pepper prefers sunny areas, but in case of strong solar activity, the area should be slightly shaded.

To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.

One of the most important conditions for growing healthy and strong peppers is correct and timely watering, which is necessary for active growth, rapid rooting and good fruiting of plants in a greenhouse or open field. The soil under it should not dry out. This can be achieved by following the basic recommendations. First of all, you should be guided by the weather. In addition, the phase of development of the plants is important, as well as the way the peppers are grown - in a greenhouse or in the open field.
Although pepper has a tree-like stem structure, it still needs additional support. If the peppers are not tied up, the plants will begin to lean to the ground under the weight of ripening fruits, the stem may break. Low-growing varieties, as a rule, do not need a garter. But for tall and hybrid varieties, it is necessary.
Every summer resident who decides to grow pepper on his site must learn how to form it correctly. The formation of pepper is one of the simplest and most effective agricultural techniques that allow you to extend the term and increase the fruiting of a crop.

For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil.It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.

Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
