Sweet Spanish pepper is distinguished by its fiery color and shape, reminiscent of hot peppers.

Description of the variety

The variety was bred by the Sedek agricultural company and was included in the State Register in 2010.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits

The plant is medium-sized, 70–80 cm, closed. The leaves are dark, large, slightly wrinkled. The fruits are directed downward.

Fruits are shaped like narrow cones up to 20 cm long, can be slightly bent. The fruits are rather large, the average weight is 80–170 g, some specimens can reach 180 g. Walls are 5–7 mm, sometimes the thickness of the walls reaches 1–1.5 cm. The walls are juicy, the number of seed chambers is 2–3 pcs.

The skin color is bright. In the stage of technical ripeness, the fruits are dark green, in the biological stage, they are dark red. The skin is smooth, with a strong gloss.

Purpose and taste

The taste is good, with a bright peppery aroma. A variety of universal use. Due to its narrow shape, pepper is not used for stuffing, but it looks great when rolled up in one piece. Pepper is also used for fresh dishes: salads, stews, snacks, soups. Suitable for freezing whole or cut.

Ripening terms

The variety is early maturing, ripens 92–104 days after germination.

Yield

The yield is excellent: 6.8-7.0 kg per 1 sq. m.

Growing regions

Sweet Spanish pepper can be grown in many regions of Russia. Subject to agricultural techniques, adjusted for local conditions, they get good harvests in the North Caucasus and the Far East. Spanish sweet is also grown in the northwest of Russia and in the Northern region.

Landing scheme

The bushes of the variety are quite compact, so they are planted at a distance of 30 cm from each other. The row spacings are also kept at 30 cm.

To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.

Growing and care

The variety grows equally well in open ground and under film shelters. It is resistant to cold weather, so it can be easily grown outdoors. However, like all peppers, it loves warmth, loose soil, and regular watering.

When growing seedlings, the most important thing is to minimize transplants. A traumatic transplant will delay the development of the peppers by 1–2 weeks, and may even stop growth altogether. It is better to sow seeds immediately in individual containers or peat tablets.

Peppers are transplanted into open ground no earlier than the soil temperature reaches + 15 ° C. This soil temperature is established when the air warms up stably to + 20 ... + 25 ° C. Depending on the region, this is the period from May to the 1st decade of June.

Sprinkle the peppers with exceptionally warm water. They love warm sprinkling, especially before flowering. Then watered at the root.

Watering frequency varies with weather and soil. Peppers on sandy soils are watered more often. The soil should be 80% saturated with moisture all the time, while it should have time to dry out.Such a regime is necessary for all sweet peppers, because they come from tropical regions with loose, very saturated soils and a constant movement of water from the soil to the air and vice versa. Lack of moisture during the period of ovary formation can lead to their falling off.

To obtain peppers with walls of 1.5 cm, high agricultural technology is needed. The conditions should be close to the climate of Latin America: a lot of sun during a short daylight hours (peppers are a plant of a short but intense daylight hours), warmth, constant exchange of moisture. You also need loose soil, which evaporates this moisture very quickly, good moisture. In the conditions of the Russian Federation, such care is difficult to provide even on an industrial scale.

To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.

One of the most important conditions for growing healthy and strong peppers is correct and timely watering, which is necessary for active growth, rapid rooting and good fruiting of plants in a greenhouse or open field. The soil under it should not dry out. This can be achieved by following the basic recommendations. First of all, you should be guided by the weather. In addition, the phase of development of the plants is important, as well as the way the peppers are grown - in a greenhouse or in the open field.
Although pepper has a tree-like stem structure, it still needs additional support. If the peppers are not tied up, the plants will begin to lean to the ground under the weight of ripening fruits, the stem may break. Low-growing varieties, as a rule, do not need a garter. But for tall and hybrid varieties, it is necessary.
Every summer resident who decides to grow pepper on his site must learn how to form it correctly. The formation of pepper is one of the simplest and most effective agricultural techniques that allow you to extend the term and increase the fruiting of a crop.

Soil requirements

The best soil is nutritious and light loam. If the soil is not loose enough, sand, peat, humus are added, however, with organic matter, moderation must be shown. On excessively rich soils, the peppers begin to "fatten", go into the tops. Too sandy soils are not nutritious enough, they are dug up, adding 1 bucket of humus per 1 sq. m. The acidity of the soil should be in the range of 6.0-7.0.

For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.

Disease and pest resistance

The Spanish sweet has good health. It has dark, leathery foliage that is not prone to disease. However, in dry weather, plants can suffer from spider mites, in damp summer - from gray rot, fusarium, spotted or verticillary wilting, late blight.

For prevention use "Fitosporin-M". Seeds are soaked in it, soil is shed on them. Landings are processed 1 time every 14 days. At the beginning of the growing season, plants can be treated with copper-containing preparations.

Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.

Review overview

There are few reviews about the variety, but all are positive. The variety is really very sweet and very fruitful. It is not suitable for those looking for the heaviest-walled varieties or wanting peppers for stuffing, but satisfying for those who do not want to provide special conditions for the peppers. Spanish pepper is sweet hardy and persistent. It is grown for a reliable harvest.
