Large-fruited, but at the same time rather unpretentious in care, Bogatyr peppers are not in vain that they are deservedly popular among domestic gardeners. They have excellent taste and are extremely useful for the body. In addition, they are not afraid of heat treatment, while maintaining their best qualities.

Breeding history

The culture was obtained by Moldovan scientists at the end of the twentieth century. Bitter paprika became the basis of the new variety. It was entered into the State Register in 1996. Scientists from the Moscow firm "Agro" managed to significantly improve the quality characteristics of the variety. Thanks to the newly acquired qualities, the culture was zoned for cultivation in the lands of the North Caucasus and the Lower Volga region. It is developing quite productively both in Ukraine and in the middle latitudes of Russia.

Description of the variety

The culture is intended for cultivation both in greenhouses and in open ground.

The main advantages of culture include:

  • active and synchronous seed germination;

  • high level of productivity;

  • wonderful taste and spectacular appearance of the fruit;

  • a high degree of keeping quality and transportability of peppers;

  • unpretentious care;

  • preservation of useful qualities during their heat treatment;

  • a high level of resistance to diseases known to fetuses;

  • reliable level of resistance to temperature fluctuations.

Minuses:

  • certain susceptibility to malicious attacks;

  • the need for careful irrigation and a relative intolerance to droughts;

  • the presence of a certain time pause between biological and technical ripening of fruits.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits

The culture forms rather powerful and spreading bushes with compacted stems 50-70 cm in height. Large leaves grow separately, have dark greenish shades. The roots of the plant are well developed.

Fruits (weighing 75-100 g) are cone-shaped with implicit ribs and walls 4.9-5.8 mm thick. The inner space is divided into 2-4 chambers, which contain a small amount of seeds. The peppers ripen one at a time on thick green stalks, with the top of the cone down. During ripening, the fruits are greenish, but by the time they ripen, they acquire a red color. The rind is always thick and smooth.

Purpose and taste

These thick-walled peppers, with fleshy and juicy flesh, have excellent taste properties (sweet and aromatic), perfect for fresh and heat-treated consumption, freezing and preservation.

The fruits contain a significant amount of vitamin C (about 130 mg per 100 g).

Ripening terms

The culture is mid-season - 115-131 days pass from germination to the moment of fruiting. Ripening time - July-August.

Yield

The average yield is 135-400 c / ha.

Landing scheme

The standard landing pattern is 30x50 cm.

To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.

Growing and caring

A distinctive feature of Bogatyr's seeds is their effective germination rate (up to 100%), which is synchronous. They are usually sown in March, and planting of seedlings under film, in greenhouses or greenhouses is carried out in May-June.

Basically, the seedling method is used for growing crops. In order to obtain high-quality seedlings with good roots, by May, germinating seeds should begin at the end of February.

Seeds are selected by the method of soaking them for 30 minutes in a 5% saline solution, rejecting the floating seeds. Then they are disinfected in a manganese solution (1 g per 100 ml of water) for 20 minutes.

The increase in the productivity of seed is carried out with the stimulator "Epin" (0.05 ml of the stimulator per 100 ml of water).

Germination of seeds is carried out within 7 days by a typical method - on wet gauze.

Planting is carried out in containers filled with a substrate made from peat, garden soil, sand and wood ash. Such a substrate, unlike the store one, requires disinfection.

The germinated seeds are placed in 1.5 cm depressions in 2 cm increments and covered with soil mixture. In the landing area, the soil is moistened. From above, the containers are covered with foil.

The required temperature before the emergence of sprouts in 6-7 days should be up to 26 degrees in the daytime, and 12-14 degrees Celsius at night.

Before planting in open soils, plants are fed 2-3 times with urea or ammonium nitrate. As the planting time approaches, it is necessary to harden the seedlings in the fresh air.

You should pinch the seedlings after the first pair of leaves appears on it. After pinching, the bushes need a temperature of at least 16 degrees.

Planting bushes on the beds is performed when the seedlings reach a height of 20-25 cm, as well as with the appearance of 7-8 true leaves. In this case, the temperature should not be less than +14 degrees.

Seedlings with a root ball are moved into the planting recesses, which are initially 30% full. The plants are then lightly watered, filled in the remainder of the groove and tamped lightly.

Basic crop care procedures:

  • regular irrigation;

  • holding groundbaits;

  • pruning and tying bushes;

  • implementation of protective measures against diseases and wrecking attacks.

Pepper is not a moisture-loving crop and requires moderate irrigation except during dry periods. Initial irrigation is carried out in the process of planting seedlings in the soil, and then adhere to the irrigation schedule - once every 5-7 days. During flowering - twice every 7 days (10 liters per 1 m2). For irrigation, exclusively warm water (at least 25 degrees) is used, pouring it from one side of the bush, and loosen it from the other side. Next time, the sides change.

Additional feeding of the bushes in the form of a composition of superphosphate and urea is carried out 14 days after planting in the soil. During the budding period, the bushes are fed with a composition of:

  • warm water (10 l);

  • potassium - 1 tsp;

  • urea - 1 tsp;

  • superphosphate - 2 tbsp. l.

Top dressing should not fall on the leaves.

Pruning or pinching procedures are carried out when the weather conditions are characterized by a high degree of humidity, and the growth of the bushes reaches 30 cm.At the same time, the lower branches under the main fork of the bush, the apical buds on the side branches are eliminated, and also the extra shoots from the main stems are pinched off. The event is recommended to be carried out once every 14 days.

When the bushes reach a height of 70 cm, supports are installed for multi-fruited and fragile branches, it is advisable to tie them to the pegs.

To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.

One of the most important conditions for growing healthy and strong peppers is correct and timely watering, which is necessary for active growth, rapid rooting and good fruiting of plants in a greenhouse or open field.The soil under it should not dry out. This can be achieved by following the basic recommendations. First of all, you should be guided by the weather. In addition, the phase of plant development is important, as well as the way the peppers are grown - in a greenhouse or in the open field.
Although peppers have a tree-like stem structure, they still need additional support. If the peppers are not tied up, the plants will begin to lean to the ground under the weight of ripening fruits, the stem may break. Low-growing varieties, as a rule, do not need a garter. But for tall and hybrid varieties, it is necessary.
Every summer resident who decides to grow pepper on his site must learn how to form it correctly. The formation of pepper is one of the simplest and most effective agricultural techniques that allow you to extend the term and increase the fruiting of a crop.

Soil requirements

Soils for peppers are selected loamy or sandy loam.

For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.

Disease and pest resistance

In general, the culture is quite resistant to diseases and pest attacks. She successfully resists TMV disease, rarely gets sick with verticillary wilting and apical rot.

Of the pests, attacks of a spider mite are dangerous for her, from which they get rid of by means of a soap composition with onions and garlic.

To prevent fungal diseases, bushes should be strengthened and nutritional deficiencies should be avoided.

Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
