Pepper Morozko is a variety of fabulous beauty. It is worth taking a closer look at its features and characteristics.

Breeding history

The plant was bred in 1999 by breeders of the Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Growing Khikhlukha E. A., Antipova N. Yu., Sirota E. G., Svidovskaya N. N. In 2001 Morozko entered the State Register for the West Siberian region.

Description of the variety

The variety is intended for cultivation in open ground, in conditions of temporary or permanent shelter. The variety is grown in the West Siberian and East Siberian regions.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits

Morozko is a medium-sized bush. In height, it reaches an average of 50-67 cm. The bush is standard, closed. There are some medium-sized leaves on the bush, the number of fruits varies from 10 to 29. They have a conical shape, the weight of one pepper reaches 55-71 g. Green at first, as the fruits ripen, they become dark red pleasant color, acquire a smooth and glossy surface.

Purpose and taste

The variety belongs to the sweet species and has a universal purpose: it is consumed fresh, and Morozko is also suitable for all types of processing and canning. The taste is good. The fruits have a faint aroma, they contain useful substances, for example, ascorbic acid (151 mg per 100 g of raw material).

Ripening terms

In terms of ripening, Morozko is a mid-season. The period from the emergence of seedlings to the first wave of the harvest takes 100-125 days, the main ripening period is from July 20 to August 20.

Yield

Frosty gives excellent harvests. On average, from 1 to 2.3 kg are collected from one square meter. The variety also has a high marketability - 97-100%.

Landing scheme

When planting seed or planting prepared seedlings, they adhere to the 60x40 cm scheme.

To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.

Growing and care

Frost is planted in the northern regions, where they almost always resort to the method of growing seedlings. At the end of February or in the first decade of March, seeds are planted in pots, in a greenhouse or under a film shelter, plants are transferred in mid-May, at the end of May, seedlings are transferred to open ground.

The seedling method allows you to get viable ready-made seedlings by early summer. The seeds are planted both in large containers and in small plastic cups or peat pots. Experienced gardeners recommend the last two options: Morozko does not tolerate the process of separating seedlings well, since the pepper has a weak root system at this stage.

Before adding the soil to the container, drainage holes are made in it and crushed stone or expanded clay is laid. The soil for planting should be fertile: you can take either the substrate from the store, or make it yourself, fertilizing the soil with humus or compost. If you do not have black soil in your area, it is possible to mix sand, peat, humus and turf (1: 1: 1: 2). Additionally, any soil should be disinfected with a weak hot solution of potassium permanganate.

Seed material must be selected before planting, to "wake up" it is soaked in a growth stimulator for half an hour. The seeds are not planted very deeply, the optimum depth is up to 1 cm.The material placed in the ground should be watered abundantly, covered with foil and the seedlings should be transferred to a warm, dry place with a temperature of + 23-25 degrees. Ideally, the place should be slightly lit. Morozko shoots appear in 10-12 days.

Planting seedlings, in which each plant has at least two full-fledged leaves, is carried out when the earth is warmed up to +15 degrees and the weather is stable outside. Prior to this, the plants for hardening are taken out into the street for a “walk” for 20 minutes, leaving the seedlings in partial shade and each time increasing the approach time. The plot for Morozko is sunny. Humus and a little wood ash are added to the prepared holes; after planting, the soil is well moistened.

In the first week, Morozko is covered with foil at night. Watering is carried out 2-3 times a week with settled water at room temperature. The soil must be periodically loosened, removing weeds. Morozko also responds well to hilling. Both procedures contribute to the normal growth and development of the root system and the entire plant as a whole.

Pepper also needs feeding. They are administered at least three times per season.

  1. The first time occurs 10-14 days after transplanting plants into open ground or a greenhouse. Organic fertilizers, ammonium nitrate are used.
  2. During the flowering period, mineral mixtures containing potassium and phosphorus are added under the bush.
  3. During the period of fruit formation, you can alternate organic and chemical fertilizing, starting with the first, or resort only to organic because of their environmental friendliness. Humus and rotted manure are suitable.

To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.

One of the most important conditions for growing healthy and strong peppers is correct and timely watering, which is necessary for active growth, rapid rooting and good fruiting of plants in a greenhouse or open field. The soil under it should not dry out. This can be achieved by following the basic recommendations. First of all, you should be guided by the weather. In addition, the phase of development of the plants is important, as well as the way the peppers are grown - in a greenhouse or in the open field.
Although pepper has a tree-like stem structure, it still needs additional support. If the peppers are not tied up, the plants will begin to lean to the ground under the weight of ripening fruits, the stem may break. Low-growing varieties, as a rule, do not need a garter. But for tall and hybrid varieties, it is necessary.
Every summer resident who decides to grow pepper on his site must learn how to form it correctly. The formation of pepper is one of the simplest and most effective agrotechnical methods that allow you to extend the term and increase the fruiting of a crop.

For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.

Disease and pest resistance

In general, Morozko has a disease-resistant immune system. We will analyze several means for their prevention, as well as possible pests.

Some gardeners use fungicides every two weeks to prevent a number of diseases. It is customary to take the following funds:

  • "Speed";
  • Ridomil Gold;
  • "Quadris".

All preparations are prepared according to the instructions and represent a liquid solution, spraying with which prevents the spread of fungi and their spores.

Among the insects that are not averse to feasting on the fruits of Morozko, the Colorado potato beetle can be distinguished. Before planting, seedlings are watered with the famous preparation "Aktara" (1.4 g per 10 liters of water).

Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
