  • shoots - up to 1.2 m long;
  • leaves are dark green, medium in size.

The pepper forms branched bushes, on which large fruits appear towards the end of summer. Specifications:

  • weight - up to 300 g;
  • shape - mostly prismatic;
  • length - 12 cm;
  • the number of seed chambers - 3-4;
  • the skin is dense, red at the end of ripening.

The maximum diameter of the fruit reaches 8 cm. Peppers tolerate transportation well over long distances.

Purpose and taste

Red Baron peppers are known for their excellent taste characteristics. The fruits are ideal both for fresh consumption and for preparing second or first courses, various sauces and pastes. Peppers are also frozen.

Ripening terms

On average, peppers form their fruits in 105 days from the date of transplanting the seedlings into the greenhouse. When planted in open ground, the ripening period increases.

Yield

For a season with 1 m 2, it is possible to collect up to 8 kg of large peppers if the crop is grown in the open field. When planted in a greenhouse, the indicator will increase to 16 kg.

To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.

Growing and care

The Red Baron pepper is grown through seedlings, regardless of the region. First of all, the seeds are prepared.

  • Selection. This stage begins mainly in the last days of February or at the beginning of March. Gardeners take seed, leaving only large and undeformed samples. Soaking the seeds in a glass of warm water for 24 hours will help speed up the selection process. After a while, empty seeds float to the surface. The samples remaining at the bottom are used for planting.
  • Disinfection. An obligatory stage, with the help of which it will be possible to strengthen the plant's immunity and reduce the risk of developing various diseases or pest attacks. Disinfection of the seed is carried out by soaking the seeds in a solution of potassium permanganate of low concentration. Calcining the seeds in the oven for 20-30 minutes will also give a good effect.
  • Treatment. The day before planting, the seeds are soaked in special growth-stimulating solutions, which can be purchased at specialized stores for gardeners.

Seeds are planted in peat pots or pre-prepared containers filled with fertile soil. Planting work is carried out mainly in early March. The maximum immersion depth of seeds should not exceed 1–2 cm so that the samples have enough sunlight and they do not die.

After planting, the pots are covered with gauze or transparent glass to create a greenhouse effect. Then put on a windowsill in the sun for 1-2 weeks.

Transplanting seedlings into the ground is performed closer to mid-May or early June, when warm weather sets in. Landing scheme:

  • the distance between seedlings should not be less than 50 cm;
  • maintain a distance of 70 cm between the rows;
  • the immersion depth of the peat pot or seedling should not be less than 7 cm.

When planting peppers, it is important to monitor the water table. It must be low, otherwise the plant will rot. When the planting is complete, it remains to take care of the care of the plant.

  • Watering. The first week, the peppers do not need to be watered to allow the seedlings to take root in the ground. Further, the plant requires watering 1-3 times a week. In the case of outdoor cultivation, the frequency of watering is regulated depending on the climatic conditions. For example, in dry weather, it is worth increasing watering, and in rains, on the contrary, decreasing.
  • Top dressing. It is enough to perform 4 procedures per season. Organic or complex compounds are usually used as top dressing, however, during the flowering period, preference is given to various minerals. Before using top dressing, it is recommended to carefully study the instructions in order to achieve the optimal crop yield.
  • Loosening. It is recommended to carry out after each application of water to the soil. The procedure is a small digging of the bed to saturate it with oxygen.
  • Weeding. Aimed at removing unwanted vegetation near peppers in order to prevent the transfer of pests and diseases by weeds. Weeding should be started at least three times per season.

Additionally, the tall stems of the Red Baron require pruning. Gardeners are advised to remove too long and infected shoots so that the plant does not waste energy and useful components on their maintenance. If the pepper is grown in a greenhouse, you should take care of the regular ventilation of the room.

To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.

One of the most important conditions for growing healthy and strong peppers is correct and timely watering, which is necessary for active growth, rapid rooting and good fruiting of plants in a greenhouse or open field. The soil under it should not dry out. This can be achieved by following the basic recommendations. First of all, you should be guided by the weather. In addition, the phase of development of the plants is important, as well as the way the peppers are grown - in a greenhouse or in the open field.
Although pepper has a tree-like stem structure, it still needs additional support. If the peppers are not tied up, the plants will begin to lean to the ground under the weight of ripening fruits, the stem may break. Low-growing varieties, as a rule, do not need a garter. But for tall and hybrid varieties, it is necessary.
Every summer resident who decides to grow pepper on his site must learn how to form it correctly. The formation of pepper is one of the simplest and most effective agrotechnical methods that allow you to extend the term and increase the fruiting of a crop.

For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.

Disease and pest resistance

The Red Baron has strong immunity and increased resistance to fungal diseases and pests. But this does not mean that the plant never gets sick. To protect it, it is worth using special products that can be bought at any gardening store.

Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
