Hybrid varieties of sweet peppers are in high demand among summer residents and farmers. This is due to the fact that hybrids are unpretentious in care, disease-resistant, quickly adapt to the climate, and give good yields. One of these is French-bred Hercules pepper.

Breeding history

Sweet pepper Hercules is a creation of the French scientists of the HM agricultural company. Clause S. A. A vegetable crop was bred in 2005, and a few years later (in 2007) it was included in the State Register of approved for use in the North Caucasus region. You can grow pepper both in the garden ridge and in greenhouse conditions.

Description of the variety

French pepper is a low-growing plant that grows in a favorable environment up to 70-80 cm in height. The closed bush is characterized by good thickening of dark green slightly wrinkled leaves, weak spreading of branches, a strong central stem, a developed rhizome and an irregular arrangement of fruits (peppers are directed up, down and on the sides). On a healthy bush, as a rule, 8-10 leveled fruits ripen.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits

Sweet pepper belongs to the large-fruited category. The bushes grow vegetables weighing from 90 to 241 grams and an average length of 10-12 cm. Some specimens gain weight up to 300 grams. The shape of the fruit is neat - cuboid, with four identical ribs.

At the stage of technical ripeness, the vegetable has a green color, and when fully ripe, it becomes ruby red. The peel of the fruit is very thick (5.5-9 mm), smooth, with a pronounced gloss.

Thanks to the dense skin, vegetables can easily be transported. Unripe peppers can be stored for about 2 months, and a ripe vegetable is recommended to be eaten or processed quickly, since it has an average keeping quality.

Purpose and taste

Pepper Hercules stands out among its many relatives for its excellent taste. The pale scarlet pulp is endowed with a dense, fleshy, tender, slightly crunchy and very juicy structure without wateriness. The taste is dominated by summer sweetness, complemented by a piquant spice and rich aroma, which is present even after processing or preservation. Four chambers contain a small amount of seeds.

The harvested crop can be used in different ways - there are fresh peppers, added to cold and hot dishes, pickled, canned in slices, processed into lecho and other sauces, frozen.

Ripening terms

Hybrid with mid-early ripening. The growing season lasts about 70 days. Germination and ripening of fruits is amicable, but peppers ripen slowly. The fruiting period is quite extended, which makes it possible to enjoy fresh and aromatic vegetables for a long time. Harvesting begins in July-August (depending on the place and region of cultivation).

Yield

The variety is quite fruitful. On average, from 1 bush can be removed from 2 to 3.5 kg of fleshy vegetables. On an industrial scale, the average yield indicators are as follows - from 158 to 495 c / ha, subject to intensive agricultural practices.

Landing scheme

It is important not only to water and feed the crop, but also to plant it correctly, observing the density and distance between the bushes. It is recommended to plant 4-5 pepper bushes per 1 m2. Landing is carried out according to the scheme 40x50 cm or 40x40.

To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.

Growing and care

Cultivation of the culture is carried out in seedlings. Most often, the planting of bushes on the ridge is performed in the first week of June, and in the greenhouse in the second half of May. The best precursors for pepper will be: onions, zucchini, pumpkin, carrots and cucumbers.

Agrotechnology of sweet pepper includes: regular irrigation with warm water under the root (drip system), top dressing (4 times per season), loosening and mulching of the soil, formation of a 1-2 stem bush, garter, removal of side shoots, prevention of fungi and pest infestations. In greenhouses, periodic ventilation is required.

To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.

One of the most important conditions for growing healthy and strong peppers is correct and timely watering, which is necessary for active growth, rapid rooting and good fruiting of plants in a greenhouse or open field. The soil under it should not dry out. This can be achieved by following the basic recommendations. First of all, you should be guided by the weather. In addition, the phase of development of the plants is important, as well as the way the peppers are grown - in a greenhouse or in the open field.
Although pepper has a tree-like stem structure, it still needs additional support. If the peppers are not tied up, the plants will begin to lean to the ground under the weight of ripening fruits, the stem may break. Low-growing varieties, as a rule, do not need a garter. But for tall and hybrid varieties, it is necessary.
Every summer resident who decides to grow pepper on his site must learn how to form it correctly. The formation of pepper is one of the simplest and most effective agricultural techniques that allow you to extend the term and increase the fruiting of a crop.

Soil requirements

The French hybrid prefers light, fertile, fluffy soils that are good for air and moisture. It is worth considering that the soil should not be acidic and waterlogged.

For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.

Required climatic conditions

Pepper is thermophilic and drought-resistant, therefore it grows well in sunny areas, experiencing a short drought, the main thing is that there is protection from drafts and cold winds. Large and abundant foliage protects the plant from burns.

Disease and pest resistance

The good immunity of the vegetable crop provides resistance to some diseases, for example, tobacco mosaic virus, late blight, bacterial spot and tobamovirus. Dangerous pests for the plant are aphids and the Colorado potato beetle.

Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
