Hybrid varieties of peppers are in high demand, since they are unpretentious in care, rarely get sick, quickly adapt to growing conditions, and also bear fruit well. The mid-early hybrid Butuz of domestic selection is endowed with such qualities.

Breeding history

Sweet pepper Butuz is a vegetable crop obtained by scientists of the agricultural firm "Gavrish" in 2007. The authorship belongs to a group of breeders headed by S.F. Gavrish. The hybrid appeared in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation in 2008.

The plant is grown in greenhouses or under film shelters. Vegetable is grown on garden beds only in the southern part of Russia. The culture is cultivated in 7 regions of the country: in the Central, Northern, Middle Volga, North-Western, Volgo-Vyatka, North Caucasian, Central Black Earth regions.

Description of the variety

The Butuz culture is a medium-sized semi-spreading plant characterized by moderate foliage, a strong central stem with pronounced pubescence, a mixed type of flowering and a superficial root system. Leaves are medium-sized, dark green. Under favorable conditions, the pepper bush stretches to a height of 70–80 cm. The fruits are located on the bushes drooping. On average, up to 10 identical specimens ripen on one plant.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits

Hybrid Butuz is large-fruited. The fruits ripen leveled. The average weight of a vegetable is 120–140 g, sometimes 180–200. The length of the fruit does not exceed 10 cm. The shape of the peppers is conical.

In technical ripeness, vegetables have a greenish-white cover, and fully ripe peppers become deep red. The hybrid is thick-walled, although the skin is not tough at all. Wall thickness up to 6–7 mm. The surface of the vegetable is smooth, shiny, with slightly pronounced ribs. Inside the fruit there are 2-3 seed chambers.

The harvested crop can be transported, while the vegetables do not deform, do not crack. Keeping quality is good, especially in the refrigerator.

Purpose and taste

Pepper Butuz has a great taste. The pale red pulp is endowed with a fleshy, tender, slightly crunchy and very juicy consistency without wateriness. The taste of vegetables is sweet, harmoniously complemented by a light aroma with piquant notes. This peppery type has a universal purpose: the vegetable is eaten fresh, it is decorated with various dishes, it is added to soups and salads, pickled, canned in slices, frozen, baked, and also processed into all kinds of sauces.

Ripening terms

Vegetable culture belongs to the mid-early group. The growing season lasts a little less than 4 months: 110-115 days. The plant's germination rate is high. Peppers ripen at different times, so the fruiting period is slightly extended. You can start harvesting in July, and it lasts until mid-September.

Yield

If you provide the plant with good agricultural technology, then you can get a high return: up to 6.1 kg of crispy fruits from 1 m 2 plantings. In the open field, the yield may be slightly worse, since the maximum return is observed when grown in greenhouse structures.

Landing scheme

When planting a crop, it is necessary to observe the density and distance between the plants. It is recommended to plant 4 sprouts per 1 m 2. Planting peppers is carried out according to the scheme 40X60 cm.

To get a large and tasty harvest of pepper, you need to take care of the seedlings in advance. When growing pepper seedlings, you need to correctly determine the sowing time, pre-sowing seed treatment, prepare the necessary container and soil.

Growing and care

Butuz is a hybrid, therefore it is cultivated exclusively in seedlings. You can plant seedlings in a greenhouse or garden bed at the end of May. Strengthened shoots at the age of 60–70 days are selected as planting material.

The culture does not require intensive agricultural technology, but it does need basic care. Seedlings are watered with warm or settled water under the root (a drip system is welcomed), fertilizer is applied 2 times per season, the soil is loosened and weeded, the bush is tied to pegs, the lateral processes are removed to the first fork, and they also prevent diseases and insect infestations. In greenhouses, periodic ventilation is carried out so that there is no excessive moisture and dampness.

To harvest a tasty and rich harvest of pepper, you need to comply with all the conditions of agricultural technology, and proper care begins with planting plants. Before planting pepper in open ground, it should be prepared. It is also important to take care of the seedlings and planting space in advance.

One of the most important conditions for growing healthy and strong peppers is correct and timely watering, which is necessary for active growth, rapid rooting and good fruiting of plants in a greenhouse or open field. The soil under it should not dry out. This can be achieved by following the basic recommendations. First of all, you should be guided by the weather. In addition, the phase of development of the plants is important, as well as the way the peppers are grown - in a greenhouse or in the open field.
Although pepper has a tree-like stem structure, it still needs additional support. If the peppers are not tied up, the plants will begin to lean to the ground under the weight of ripening fruits, the stem may break. Low-growing varieties, as a rule, do not need a garter. But for tall and hybrid varieties, it is necessary.
Every summer resident who decides to grow pepper on his site must learn how to form it correctly. The formation of pepper is one of the simplest and most effective agricultural techniques that allow you to extend the term and increase the fruiting of a crop.

Soil requirements

Sweet pepper Butuz, like most of its congeners, prefers light, fluffy, fertile soil that is well permeable to air and moisture. It is not recommended to plant peppers in sour or waterlogged soil.

For good growth of pepper bushes and active fruiting, you need to regularly apply mineral and organic fertilizing to the soil. It is necessary not only to choose the right formulations, but also to use them at the right stage in the development of culture. The frequency of top dressing is always individual. It depends directly on the composition of the land on your site. The poorer the soil composition, the more often you will need to feed the pepper.

Required climatic conditions

This variety is quite thermophilic, therefore, for planting, they choose a sunny place where there is a lot of light, good air circulation. If pepper is cultivated in the open field, then it is better to choose a place on a small hill, where there is no excess accumulation of water.

Disease and pest resistance

Pepper is immune to a number of diseases, but it is still necessary to carry out 1-2 preventive treatments per season. The only problem for the plant is the infestation of aphids, which will help to overcome insecticidal spraying.

Pepper is one of the most common vegetables in home gardens. This culture is quite stable and unpretentious. However, under certain conditions, this plant can suffer from infections and harmful insects. Before treating peppers for diseases or pests, you need to find out the cause of the problem, otherwise the treatment may be ineffective.
