Pepper Big Mom fully lives up to its name. It belongs to the champion line of bell peppers, distinguished by their large-fruited and excellent harvest indicators. And a democratic price for a product always attracts many buyers to it.

Description of the variety

This early variety was bred in the agrofirm "Aelita". Thanks to the efforts of Nastenko, Kachainik and Gulkin, it was possible to create a variety with large fruits and excellent cold resistance. Since 2011, the plant has been in the State Register. It is recommended to cultivate it outdoors.

Pepper Big Mom has long received universal approval from gardeners, and there are several reasons for this:

  • a large number of peppers on one bush;

  • compact size of plants;

  • rapid achievement of ripeness;

  • large fruits with a shiny skin;

  • exquisite delicate taste;

  • the ability to transport the harvested crop to any distance;

  • long shelf life;

  • resistance to major pepper diseases.

If we talk about the shortcomings, then one of the main gardeners note the weak germination of seeds. However, this variety still has better performance than many others, about 80%. The second minus mentioned by summer residents is the difficulty in leaving. This plant is quite whimsical, so it is better for beginners to choose a simpler variety.

Characteristics of the appearance of plants and fruits

Those who grow peppers on their site will be interested to know that the manufacturer's "Big" line includes several varieties. This is a whole "family". Big Daddy is purple, Big Boy is red, and Big Girl is brownish orange. As for Big Mom, this pepper will be bright and juicy, pure orange.

Here are its other additional characteristics:

  • the weight of an individual pepper is 120 grams, there are copies of 110 and 150 g;

Great sweet taste is the main reason that gardeners love Big Mama so much. Large peppers have a crunchy appetizing pulp, they are incredibly healthy fresh. When stuffed, they look impressive, they can even become a "highlight" of the table. And thanks to their beautiful color, they are often rolled into cans, after having cut them into oblong parts.

Ripening terms

It takes about 110-115 days for Big Mom to fully ripen, so the variety can be confidently attributed to the early ones. The first fruits appear at the end of August and are harvested until September.

Yield

Big Mom bears fruit steadily, delighting summer residents with very good harvests. Even outdoors, you can collect an average of 6.8-7.2 kg. If for any reason a vegetable is grown in a greenhouse, then 1-2 kilograms can be safely added to the yield indicators.

In order for each plant to receive a full range of nutrients from the soil, it is necessary to plant the bushes according to the scheme of 50x35 centimeters.

Growing and care

Big Mom is a variety, so the seeds can be easily picked with your own hands. Own grains are calibrated and disinfected before planting, you can not do this with store grains. Morning watering is allowed only on cloudy days. Water consumption per bush - 3 liters.

Top dressing is applied every 14 days. Organics are optional for this variety, but minerals will only benefit. For top dressing, it is better to choose complex formulations. They are brought into the soil together with watering. It is not necessary to spray on the sheet.

Loosening and weeding should be done after each irrigation. Mulch is optional, but it should be put if weeds are actively growing, or if you need to wait a couple of days with watering.

Big Mom's bushes should be formed correctly. As soon as the first bud appears, it is immediately removed from the plant. Next, they look for a fork, remove all ovaries and flowers from there. Only the strongest shoots should be left in this place, no more than two pieces. Then they work with the axils of the leaves, removing stepchildren from there. When the summer season comes to an end, you will need to pinch the tops of the fruit-bearing bushes.
